Chereads / The Absurd Journey Of The Apocalyptic Sage / Chapter 36 - The Supreme Court Of Fay

Chapter 36 - The Supreme Court Of Fay

The Spirit Race are born excessively close to the world. We are basically personifications of nature, a piece of the world itself. Because of that, we love the world as our mother, and love all life as our family.

But that is also why reaching Legend rank is a momentous task for us, who cannot easily find our own path and separate from nature. We are a part of the world, the world is ourselves, that's why we have a weak sense of 'self'. Without a long, long time and a powerful impetus, it is basically impossible for us to become a Legend. But those that does evolves into a Fay, a Spirit Race that has the traits of the Human Race.

Here, we mediate wars, quell disasters, and hunt down demons who slipped into the world. We protect the world while overseeing life, just like how we would when we were a part of the vast world.

But while we became unique, we are still dependant on the world. We are still embodiments of our world, our lives are still sustained by the world. All spirits dissipated without a choice as the world was forced into dormancy.

But the Fay did not, we cannot leave behind the world while it was in danger.

Using the same principals as demonification, I created a method alter the composition of our body so that we no longer dependant of the world. It was only possible because of how much we strayed from nature, our original form. With this, we became the goblins and continued to fight even as the Spirit Race went extinct, faced the demons without worrying about corruption, and tapped into forbidden magic to continue living in this world.

Sadness, rage and despair. I cannot speak for others, but for a spirit that is very susceptible to emotions, every second of this war is a soul rending experience. We felt great sorrow when the void creature came, for the numerous lives that will be lost. When the abyss gate opened, I felt intense rage for having our world coveted. When the dragons betrayed us, I only felt despair for knowing that my family is trying to kill us.

"We loved you."

Can you imagine it? Can you imagine the crushing pain from seeing the ones you trusted as your siblings attack you? To kill your family and sell their souls to the abyss.

You cannot!

It is not something you can imagine without experiencing. The emotion of a spirit is not something a mortal can sympathise with.

The black dragons flying towards the continent right now, I can still feel my love for them as my brothers and sisters, I still love them as equally as I love the world. Yet to contradict all that is the hatred that has festered for 700 years.

I have made every preparation to ensure their death on this day!

"I will not forgive you, traitors!"

[Forbidden Art: Imprisonment Of Time]

The city we resided for the last 700 years, the small world we are trapped within crumbles. In its place is a ritual radiating divine light, an offering to the Gods.

[Spirit Ritual: Rites Of Offering]

A storm of divine power kicks up as we return to 700 years ago, to the day before becoming goblins. The light of spirits dance around us as our green skin fades, giving way to the pale white skin. Our horns recede as ephemeral wings flourishes behind us, thin as the cicadas' wings.

The Fay looks like elves, but our hair and eyes are much more colourful, matching our origin. We have regained our power as spirits, the blessings of the world.

108 stars shine through the daylight, signifying the return of the Supreme Court. Of the 108 stars, 51 are dim, while 57 shines brightly as if it's their last spark.

We face the dragons flying by. Each adult dragon is at least as strong as a newly ascended Legend of any Human Race, that is the advantage of the strongest race. But even though they have numbers thrice ours, they still avoid us as they race into the continent. It does not matter, without teleportation, they cannot outrun us.

"Chase them! Let none escape!!"

Locking onto the dragons with her sight is Lirthusia, the Pathfinder of the Fay. Born as a spirit of pure mana, her perception allows her to grasp everything in the present, and even peer limitedly into the future, helping everyone avoid disasters and guide our path forward. No matter how nonsensical it is, no one will doubt her words.

Leading the charge is Ronia, the Warrior of the Fay. Born from the flames of war, no one pursues power as persistently as her. Her sword wrapped in flames and destruction can cut through scales of dragons like butter, decapitating countless enemies in war. The most valiant and infallible warrior leading the spirit of all Fay.

Standing at the forefront is Geahnol, the General of the Fay. Born from the dark emotions of despair and unwillingness, he is a common spirit who should never have had the ability to become a Fay. Yet he did. Having no talent in aura or magic, he trained his body to the extreme, and his stubbornness made him the strongest shield for his brethren. He is a shield we trust will never break.

And I am the Chancellor leading the Fay. No matter how improbable the path forward is, no matter how much the dragons overpower us. It is my job to make the impossible possible.

6 hours into the even, most battles have already finished. The demons were purged at such efficiency that it can only be called a one sided war. Perhaps it is to be expected for the ancient warriors who prepared extensively for this day. The enemies have no ability to build up their strength in this foreign environment, any such attempts have been squashed before budding fruit.

The battle between undead and demons ended first. The demons cannot increase their number outside the abyss and while they created demonic beasts and fiends with their power, they are far from enough to contend against the elite warriors. They were eliminated systematically without mercy.

The void creature is immortal. Even with the entirety of the Holy Kingdoms force, they still could not kill it. The plan was to banish the creature back into the void, but midway another creature cut into the battle and wrestled it to the ground. Two huge monsters, one an eyeball with black flesh, and another a formless blob of consistency that almost seems to be flesh. The holy saintess seems to recognise the blob so they assisted it against the void creature, but they did not predict that the blob would swallow the void creature entirely and devour it. The banishment has been set on hold as the enemy vanished unforeseeably, and the battle was over.

The longest battle happened at the world's edge. The goblin city crumbled into spiritual light, revealing the long lost Fay. With the spirit born from the stars taking the lead, they advanced in a formation resembling a constellation and chased the dragons stubbornly on its tails. The dragons tried to avoid the battle, but could not out run the Fay. The annoyance soon turned into fear as the arrows fired by the black bows held by each spirit tore easily through their scales and into their flesh. Wounds at their vitals killed them immediately, while even the slightest cut placed a selection of vicious curse onto their body. Every weapon was enchanted with the dragon-slaying enchantments.

Reproducing the scene from 700 years ago, the dragons were chased over mountains and rivers until the last one fell. Except this time, none of the Fay fell before the battle ended.

The War deciding the existence of the world has ended.
