It's been a lovely beautiful week since Wolf and Anastasia confessed their love for each other. Anastasia was in bliss, being in love is the best.
It is more than she could ever imagine it would be. She came from being unloved, to being loved unconditionally, it was unimaginable.
Anastasia felt that she had to protect this love, and new life with everything she had.
She did not care that she was in a fantasy world, to her the people she's met her are her family. They are real in her heart, she will protect them at all cost.
Step Step Step
Several footsteps running outside of her chambers caused Anastasia to snap out of her thoughts.
She climbed out of bed and went to check what was going on outside. When she opened her door she saw tons of servants and ministers scrambling around the palace.
"What is this?" She said.
Elena came running down the hall, she seemed in a hurry but her face was calm. Anastasia had never seen Elena in such disarray.
"Your Royal Highness, please return inside your chambers," Elena said coming up to Anastasia.
Anastasia backed inside and Elena followed closing the door. That's when Anastasia finally realized that Elena was basically covered in sweat.
She also had a cloth covering her nose and mouth, and she stood far away from Anastasia. This was unusual behavior and Anastasia was confused, and concerned.
"Elena, what is happening? Why is your face covered? Why is everyone running around?" Anastasia bombarded Elena with questions.
Elena bowed respectfully before she spoke.
"My apologies for showing you such an improper side of me, Your Royal Highness, but there seems to be a sickness going around the Capital. People are getting sick, and some have died from this unknown disease. Many physicians are unable to say what is causing it, they think it's a bad fever, but they say that we should keep distance from the sick." She explained.
"Oh my goodness, what are the symptoms?" Anastasia asked.
"People are suffering from, coughs with pus, fever, chills, and they have difficulty breathing,"
Anastasia thought for a moment, when she was in school she took a nursing course as a back up career. She wasn't sure if she'd make it as an author so she wanted a back up plan.
Medicine was also something she liked, so she studied hard. When she heard the symptoms she immediately knew what it was. It's pneumonia!
Pneumonia can be fatal if not treated quickly, she knew how to help the people, but would she seem strange for knowing things even the physicians here don't?
Anastasia couldn't think too long, people's lives handed in the balance as she stood there.
"Take me to the King," Anastasia said. She was willing to help, after all she's the Queen, she can't sit back while her people suffer.
"Yes, your Royal highness," Elena said opening the door for Anastasia.
They walked through the halls quickly to get Wolf's office. When they arrived the guards announced them.
With wolf's command they were allowed inside, but Anastasia was shocked at the amount of paper work stacked on his desk.
Carl, along with many of servants, and ministers seemed exhausted. Wolf's temper was obviously on edge.
Anastasia could understand how frustrated, tired and scared they must be. In this era sicknesses such a pneumonia seem like the Ebola virus.
They have no knowledge of it, or how to treat it, but Anastasia does.
"Why are outside of your chambers? It's dangerous outside," Wolf said keeping his distance.
"Honey, I know how to treat this illness," Anastasia said with confidence.
"My apologies your royal highness, but even the physicians of the empire can't cure it, may I ask how you do?" A minister asked in a snarking voice.
"Are you questioning your Queen?" Wolf asked while looking at the minister.
"O-of course not Your Majesty," he stammered.
"Then I advice you to shut your mouth, before I shut it for you."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"Now Anastasia, tell me exactly what you know about this sickness."
"Back in the Holy Kingdom, I passed time by reading books. Some of those books were old medical journals, I used to want to pursue medicine but as a Princess it was frowned upon. I soaked up as much knowledge as I could from those journals. When Elena told me the symptoms of the people, I immediately recognize them as the symptoms pneumonia," she explained.
Anastasia hoped that they would believe her story. She does read a lot here, so she hoped they would just go with it.
"Is there a cure?" Wolf asked.
"Yes, but it's difficult, we'll need penicillin."
"Peni-what?" Some said.
"Penicillin, it's a type of medicine that's kills, bacteria and stop it from growing. We'll have to mass produce it, in order to treat everyone. Physicians should administer the antibiotics through a needle, that way it goes straight into the bloodstream. The process of making penicillin can be tough, but with everyone working together we can get through it."
"My gooodness your highness you're so smart!" Elena said praising Anastasia.
Everyone, including Wolf, stared at her in awe, a small girl from a small kingdom held such knowledge. They were taken aback.
"You heard her, get everything she needs," wolf said.
Everyone scrambled around Anastasia with ink and paper, jotting down everything she said.
She was taken to a lab where physicians worked tirelessly to figure out a cure. When the Wolf and Anastasia walked in they nearly fainted from surprise.
The physicians that came from the castle with Wolf and Anastasia explained that she had a cure. They looked weary of the situation, but could not refuse their matriarch's offer.
They let Anastasia into the lab, and watched her work the tool's professionally. She touched and smelled mold, they thought she had lost her mind. After a while, she concocted a mysterious liquid that they had never seen before.
She placed it in a small vile and smiled.
"This is the cure," she said happily with beads of sweat dripping from her forehead.
"Dear wife, you've word hard," Wolf said dabbing her forehead with his sleeve.
"Y-your highness, you say this small vile is the cure?" A physician asked.
"Yes, this vile will only cure a few patients, we need to make much more," she said.
"Bring someone to test the cure," wolf said gesturing to a guard.
The guard left, and minutes later he came back with a sickly woman. Anastasia pitied the state she was in.
"Lay her down," she ordered the guard.
The woman was ghostly pale, and her breathing was shallow. Anastasia knew that the patients would need fluids and rest along with the antibiotics.
"The patients need fluids and rest as well," she said.
After Anastasia completed the vaccine she had to draw a sketch of what a need looked like. It was hard, but a smart young student was able to replicate her design. Thus mass production of needles were made.
Anastasia filled the needle halfway with the penicillin, and injected it into the ladies vein.
"Antibiotics work right after you administer them, but you might not start to feel better until two to three days later," she explained.
The woman who was laying down started to open her eyes. A small amount of color was returning to her face.
"How are you feeling ma'am?" Anastasia asked holding her hand.
"Y-your highness? Am I alive?" The woman asked confused at why she, a commoner was surrounded by royalty.
"You're alive, the physicians have helped you, do you feel better now?" She asked.
"Y-yes, I'm able to breathe now," she admitted.
The physicians who had devoted their entire being to medicine was shocked. No one could figure out this mysterious illness, yet their new, and young Queen solved their empire crisis within a day.
Everyone was amazed at Anastasia's ability and regarded her as a goodness sent from heaven.
"My wife is amazing is she not? She has saved the empire from a mysterious disease, not even the best physicians around the world could overcome such a feat," Wolf praised Anastasia.
"Thank you your Royal highness," everyone room bowed to Anastasia for her great effort.
"Her royal highness is a goddess,"
"She saved thousands of lives with her magic potion,"
"I heard she has white wings on her back,"
"Our empire is so lucky to have a Queen like her,"
These rumors spread across the empire within days of patients being cured from penicillin. Anastasia now has the reputation as the white winged goddess in the empire.
"Have you heard wife? You're the white winged goddess of the empire," Wolf teased Anastasia inside their chamber.
"Don't tease me, I'm no goddess, I did what any Queen would do," she said climbing in bed.
"No, that's not true my wife, all Queens wouldn't go to the slums and work hard to save commoners. They would sit inside their castle free of the disease, and pretend to care. You are different my love," he said climbing in bed next to her.
Anastasia was flustered at all the praise she had received. She only wanted to help the sick, she never intended to become a goddess.
"You've worked hard wife, sleep now," wolf said tucking Anastasia into his chest.
Anastasia felt her heart throb, no one had ever said those words to her before.
"You've worked hard," hearing that meant a lot to her. She snuggled into his embrace and inhaled his masculine scent.
"Good night husband,"
"Good night wife,"
They drifted off to sleep, holding on to each other while dreaming of the future.
