Chapter 12 - The Outbreak pt2

It's been two weeks since the outbreak of pneumonia swept through the empire. Within those two weeks, Anastasia found the cause of how many people turned ill.

With the change in weather, people started to naturally get sick. Those sick people then coughed, sneezed, and talked openly.

Anastasia had already noticed that hygiene wasn't a crucial factor in this period. Thus the spread of the common cold led to disaster, which is what happened in this case.

Coupled with the newfound antibiotics Anastasia introduced. Hand-washing techniques were adopted into the empire. Along with other various hygiene techniques Anastasia revealed.

Anastasia felt that her decision to study medicine was the right one. Before coming here she never got the chance to fully explore her talents. The most experience she got was the clinical trials she performed for school credit.

Anastasia patted herself on the back for taking those classes seriously at that time. Anastasia implemented the plan to control the outbreak.

She administered the vaccines personally to commoners and nobles alike. Her lack of discrimination touched the hearts of everyone and they loved her more and more.

As Wolf said, there was no Queen like Anastasia, her goddess-like appearance and delicate nature captured the hearts of all. Her deeds and exceptional knowledge had spread to other countries.

Many wanted to know of the young Queen who cured a country of an unknown disease. They also heard of her coming up with different ways to prevent future disasters.

At this time Anastasia was inside an orphanage with Elena and other maids. She has gifted them with food, toys, and clothes.

She went around to different villages and orphanages. Supplying them with the things they need to have an easier life. She read to the children and taught them how to properly wash their hands and keep them clean.

Anastasia played with all the children and took care of the sickly ones. After leaving a village the villagers would throw flower petals at her carriage.

Signifying their love and appreciation for their Queen. As commoners, they could not gift her with jewels and gold like the nobles. This was the only thing they could do.

Anastasia loved their gesture more than any gold she could receive. She wanted to help those that could not help themselves. She'd do anything she could especially now that she holds the responsibility of Queen.

Meanwhile, Wolf would watch Anastasia, and help out as well anytime he wasn't stuck inside the palace. In all his years he has never seen a person like Anastasia.

She was everything he was not and more. With instincts like a tiger, Wolf picked up on all of the unusual things Anastasia said and did.

For example, how she cooked in the kitchen with the servants. That was unlike anything a normal noble would do. The way she spoke and sometimes used unfamiliar words.

Before meeting Anastasia, Wolf had no intentions of getting married. After seeing his prospected bride, however, his mind shifted. In a moment's glance, she was his.

He wanted Anastasia immediately, he signed the contract with her father. The only thing he knew about Anastasia was that she was a princess from a small country. Her father, the King, was incompetent and full of debt.

He knew nothing of how the original Anastasia was treated in the Holy Kingdom. For all he knows she lived a quiet life like any other princess. Her father sold her for political gain and fortune, which was not uncommon.

However, the woman who stood before him, who has saved his country, and who cares for his people is unlike a princess who lived a quiet life stuck inside a castle.

Though she had tendencies of being shy and quiet. Anastasia was intelligent, soft-hearted, and did things spontaneously. He was curious about her and wanted to know more.

Wolf ultimately sent out a spy to investigate Anastasia's life before she became his Queen. Something he would have done earlier, if not enthralled with her beauty.

The more time they spent together he found something new he loved about her. He got reports of her going to villages and developing their lifestyle. He was proud but again these are the things he found odd.

It's sad to say, but it's true, nobles did not partake in the charity that Anastasia has shown. The most they will do is send funds to the palace through servants, and hold parties in honor of good health.

Wolf himself was guilty of not properly taking care of commoners. He thought since the empire's commoners lived slightly better than other commoners he had seen in different countries he was being benevolent. Yet it took Anastasia to show him otherwise.

***********

"Your Royal Highness, you should rest," Elena was beginning to worry about Anastasia's health. She has been going none stop for more than two weeks now.

"I'm fine, I'll just check on the kids for," Anastasia suddenly felt dizzy and lightheaded. Her body was heavy as if a thousand pounds had fallen onto her.

"ACK,"

Anastasia hacked as she held her head and fell. In the past two weeks or so Anastasia had been moving nonstop. Containing the spread of sickness was no easy task. Unknowingly she was taking care of everyone else but not herself. Typical of Anastasia.

"Your Royal Highness!"

"Oh my! Her Highness!"

Anastasia fell unconscious outside of the orphanage. Elena, other servants, and the villagers all panicked at the sight of Anastasia's unconscious body.

The knights Wolf placed as Anastasia's escorts surrounded her while others covered her with a blanket and picked her up. Not knowing exactly what is happening they could only take her inside the orphanage.

Elena watched over Anastasia's body frantically. Someone who held as much power as Anastasia the villagers feared for their lives.

Everyone knows how much Wolf adores Anastasia. The news of their loving relationship spread like wildfire. Also, the changes in Wolf were all credited to Anastasia.

What would the tyrant king do once he found out that his precocious wife is unconscious? The villagers trembled in fear but their concern for Anastasia, their savior was greater.

There aren't many physicians within the villages, and the ones that are there dare not touch or diagnose Anastasia.

When Anastasia fell unconscious the fastest rider of the knights immediately rushed back to the palace. As one of the Queen's guards, he was noticed when he entered the palace with urgency.

"I need to speak with the King," the knight said to two guards outside of the King's office.

"His Majesty is busy at the moment".

"This is an important matter, the Queen is in trouble!"

With his sudden outburst of Anastasia's condition, their faces morphed into worry along with bystanders in the palace.

The guards announced the Queen's knight, and quickly open the door. The knight entered the king's office shaking, scared to deliver the news.

The only people in the office were Wolf and Carl. The paperwork that was piled up on the desk seemed like it was meant for twenty people, not two.

Wolf stared at the knight confused as to why he was standing in front of him and not doing his job guarding Anastasia.

"Why are you here?"

The knight knew things could go wrong in a split second if he answered wrong. Yet he couldn't find a better way to say that Anastasia had fainted.

"Y-your Majesty, it's about her Royal Highness," he started.

This piqued Wolf's interest and he ceased all work putting down documents. Anything regarding Anastasia required his full attention.

"H-her Royal Highness has fainted!" He shouted.

Bam!

Wolf's fist slammed down onto the desk breaking it in half. His strength is beyond that of normal humans. Even though he's a human being himself the countless wars and swords he's wielded has shaped him differently.

"Say that again?" He threatened.

"My king, please calm down," Carl intervened to stop the poor knight's head from rolling just from delivering a message.

Wolf did not care to hear more from this shivering knight anymore. He had to see Anastasia for himself, and that's just what he was going to do.

"Prepare a carriage,"

Wolf left the office without a second thought the only thing on his mind was Anastasia. The last time she fainted was due to poison. Had something like that or worse happened? He didn't know.

He made the driver of the carriage rush to the nearby village Anastasia was in. Arriving at the village in the royal engraved carriage the villagers immediately knew who had arrived.

Before Wolf stepped out of the carriage the people bowed in respect. Descending from the carriage they all still bowed. The cottage that Anastasia lay inside was small.

Dozens of people stood outside of the small cottage praying for their goddess Anastasia. Seeing the villagers cry and pray for Anastasia Wolf thought of the worst.

Carl dragged a palace physician along to treat Anastasia. As they entered the cottage Elena was kneeling beside Anastasia.

Upon seeing the king Elena stop up, bowed, and stepped out of the way. Wolf came to her bedside and examined her. Aside from looking tired, she seemed fine.

"Check her."

The physician who had seen this scene before started to sweat. Last time when Anastasia was poisoned and didn't wake up his neck was on the line.

The physician slowly but surely made his way to Anastasia's bedside. Checking her pupils and pulse he concluded.

"She's asleep your majesty,"

"What?"

Wolf was confused. He had tapped her and called her name yet she did not respond. How could someone sleep this soundly?

"From what I've heard her royal highness has been working diligently on the disaster. I believe she has exhausted herself to the point that she has fallen into a deep slumber. Do not worry majesty, with a few hours of rest she will be fine,"

Wolf could not believe what he was hearing. Did she care so much about the empire that she did not take care of her well-being but instead took care of others? Wolf laughed inwardly but reminded himself to scold Anastasia later.

"I'll take her back to the palace,"

Wolf gathered Anastasia in his arms and made his way out of the cottage and into the carriage. He held her in his lap while she rested her sleepy head on his chest.

"My dear wife you have exceeded my expectations,"

After a short ride, the carriage stopped in front of the palace. Many servants heard of Anastasia's fainting spell and gathered to see her.

Existing the carriage Wolf glared at the servants daring them to make a sound. It was ordered that everyone keep quiet. If anyone disturbed Anastasia's sleep Wolf would undoubtedly make them go to sleep for eternity.

Placing Anastasia in their bed Wolf began to undress her. He wiped her body with a towel and tucked her in. He analyzed her face and body taking in all her beauty.

He felt lucky to have someone care for his country as much as he did, and probably more. He vowed to give her everything under the moon.

He thought after all of this she deserved it.
