Chapter 9 - Orca Academy

Larne slept soundly after the whole planning and distribution of commands. he woke up during late morning the next day by the same noises that woke him up the previous day, he waited lazily for some time by planning his day. Then after noticing that the noises had quieted down, he gets out of his room, after dressing up.

Wearing a pair of black pants, a pair of black leather boots and a black coat with black shirt, Larne himself was satisfied with the clothes Scarlet got him, fully dressed he slots two daggers into his boots and equipped a rifle into his waist pouch and his two swords on the sides of his waist. Checking the room, he remembers that Allison probably took care of it and took away his belongings. Recalling how Scarlet was smiling ear to ear just to choose his outfit for today, he knew it would cost a lot for her, shaking away the thoughts from his head, Larne laughed and headed down downstairs.

It was noon, people would have gone to their place of work or mercenaries going for escorting jobs or adventures, so with two to three chatting and drinking in the main hall as they listened to Mccarthy humming a song called "The tales of Mages" while he cooked, the epic poem that the depicted the conflict that happened tens of thousands years ago between the human mages fighting an interracial war with other races being defensive as humans fought on the offensive. Only the author of this poem had pity towards the other races. The author described in the poem how the humans led by supreme mages led an offensive attack on the intent of conquering other planes that had valuable resources and other races and how the humans divided and conquered them one after the other, and how celestial beings how to come down from the higher planes just to stop the one-sided massacre but were beaten back by the humans and had to go on the defensive till both sides suffered heavy casualties with no victor on either side. Apart from the sympathy felt by the author towards the other races, the poem was beautiful as well beautiful pacing. The poem is so captivating that no matter how many times it's said, people always feel so intrigued by it.

Larne went to an empty table and took a seat. The two to three people on the other tables raised their cups or greeted him since they were acquainted before minding their own businesses again.

The new serving girl, who Alice brought from her village appeared before he table and asked in a shy and low voice, "Sir Larne, what would you like to have?", looking away bashfully. Larne rubs his nose awkwardly and said "what do you have?".

"We just got a fresh batch of Ale, Do you want one?", she answered bashfully clutching her hands and legs together.

"OK, get Mccarthy to fry those chickens I asked Allison to give to him, I'd like some rib soup, and a place of fried rice just the way I taught him because i will be going to the Academy later in the afternoon."

"OK sir-"

"Don't call me sir, just call me Larne"

"Alright si-,L-Larne, I will tell Mccarthy, since you're going to the Academy".

"Wait," called Larne as the new serving girl was just about to leave. "Actually, I'm not in a rush to go to the academy later. So take your time.

After a while, eating his full and satisfied, Larne exited the inn and walked for a while before seeing a horse cart taxi passing by.

Waving to slow down, Larne said, "Get me to Orca Academy".

"OK, that will be five bronze coins. sit tight." The yellow-clothed driver flicked the whip and the White-Striped Horse raced towards the destination.

After fifteen or so minutes, the horse cart stopped in front of the entrance of the academy. Larne paid the driver one silver coin, which was worth 10 bronze, with five bronzes as a tip for the driver. The driver showered him with gratitude as he got off the cart.

Orca Academy was situated at the southwestern part of the Academy Section. It offered courses in multiple disciplines and was ranked the second among the twenty or so academies in Nornak City and fourth among all the academies on the Elysium Continent.

A statue of a strange humanoid creature about 1.5m slaying a dark-winged eight paired angel with a sword that was as clear as a crystal could be seen at the entrance. The strange looking humanoid creature was one of the six guardian beasts of the greatest hero of the human race who had led the humans to their golden age, becoming the supreme authority of the ten thousand races. According to the Elysian legends the strange looking humanoid creature was called Orca, a hybrid of a dragon and beast. It was a very arrogant beast who never put anyone in eyes until the human hero subdue and turned him to one of his mounts, and also later fought and killed 'The Dark battle Angel', who then was a menace and threat to human sovereignty.

It was later celebrated as the beast of courage and later became deified to become a 'divine magus beast'.

At the main entrance consisting of the statue and a boulevard that led straight to the academy, the place he stood gave him nostalgic memories, he remembered when he first got there fourteen years ago, when his uncle dropped him after he stayed with his uncle three years prior to his academy days, taking a deep breath, he reached into his waist pouch and took out a golden badge which was a one and a half inch badge which he pinned it in front of his chest. On the golden badge was an embossed image of a longsword with three stars on the top of the blade. That represented his grandmaster level CoreEnergy.

It was mandatory for everyone to wear one's Coreenergy's badge in order to enter the academy. Aside that, it was also mandatory that, professors, teaching staff and students all have their own respective badges that must be worn at all times within the premises. So Larne put another badge beside his CoreEnergy badge. On it was an image of a concentrated person concocting and mixing a liquid and a man hitting on a metal. The badge was gold in color unlike his CoreEnergy badge, it represented his status as a dual instructor in both potion making and artifact welding.

A few young students who looked like they were just about to enter their teenage years wearing the uniform of the academy walked by. They must be freshmen. Lorist recalled that the recruitment day was three to four months ago. As he watched them jump in excitement, he again reminisced his own times as a student fourteen years ago, sighing, "Time really flows quickly and unceasingly."

At first, these students didn;t pay Larne much heed. After all, there were mauy students of his age in the academy. But once they saw his golden badges, they all hurried to pay their respects.

Larne merely nodded and smiled before continuing onward. At the Academy, students were required to pay their respects to the instructors.

All of a sudden, Larne heard chatterings and claps behind him, "That must be Instructor Larne, the legendary undefeated grandmaster swordsman of our academy!"

"I heard the seniors say that he cured an illness even Alchemists couldn't cure,"....I want him as my Alchemy instructor.

"Rumours say....."

On the Elysium Continent, one's CoreEnergy and swordmanship represented one's strength. The most common ranks known to everyone both commoners and lower nobles were divided into six levels; Beginner, Amateur, Expert, Master, Grandmaster and Lord which were further divided into three sub-ranks for each level. Beyond that was 'Quasi or semi saint' and sword saints and the last known level known only to the highest of nobles is 'Sword God'. People like Larne to the world would have to enter seclusion to break through to Lord level through insights but at lower levels CoreEnergy is quite easy to breakthrough to the next rank when the energy in the Core of the body reaches a bottleneck but Larne was still stuck at the grandmaster level even after three years despite being hailed a prodigy when he first entered the academy.

When Larne first entered the academy. Then, Mccarthy who was catering food by the entrance of the academy with his parents, clearly recalled the scene. The young Larne who was of royal blood had a disdainful expression on his face. He viewed Mccarthy and his family with much disdain, he was proud. Not even a month later, Mccarthy heard that the youth got into a fight with a group of seniors in the academy and got badly beaten up. He had to rest in bed for six whole months.

When he met the young prince again, Mccarthy saw no expression of before from the young prince, the young Larne was all smiling.

Sighing, Larne smiled bitterly and started walking towards the central building where he was to meet with the Academy head. Approaching the central building, Larne suddenly stopped and turned around because he heard someone call his name.

"Larne,"
