Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen

Taking a deep breath and watching where she stepped, Alora entered the forest with her heart beating wildly in her chest.

As soon as Alora stepped into the forest, she felt this chilling sensation that went down from her chest down to her stomach. She clenched her fists as she walked into the forest further.

The rain seemed to pour down more and more. Alora started to shiver but she kept going as she could still hear the weak howl in her ears.

With the help of her enhanced vision, she was able to see what was ahead. Soon she saw some figure running out of the forest which puzzled her.

Just then she made out a figure laying on the floor. She moved closer to the figure and hid behind a rock. She saw the large figure laying on the floor and she could still see it moving.

She approached the figure slowly and looked down at it. When she saw what it was, she clasped her hands over her mouth to prevent herself from screaming.

It was a werewolf. It took her a minute to gather herself and when she turned to leave, she felt something hold her leg. She looked down and saw the werewolf holding her leg whimpering. As she could see, he was hurt.

She knew what she was doing would be wrong if she helped it but she couldn't leave a dying animal out in the cold.

Pulling together all the courage she could summon, she lifted the werewolf that wasn't just stained with blood that stained her clothes immediately, but was also heavy.

After a long battle, she managed to drag the werewolf to the creek and washed the blood off it. She took the outer robe of her dress and used it to cover it, even though she knew it was of no use.

As she carried the werewolf towards the palace, she couldn't help but think where she would put it till it healed. But another thought popped up in her head, what if this was a trap? What if they wake up tomorrow and the whole kingdom is surrounded by werewolves that are ready to attack.

"Werewolves never sneak up on their prey. They even make their presence known before attacking." Alora remembered the line in the book she was reading about the werewolves. She silently prayed it was true and she carried him towards the underground room that Ava had shown her the other day.

Since the girl had packed her things, she was sure that she wouldn't return there anytime soon. After Alora dropped the wolf in the room, she rushed to clean the trail of water she had left while coming in and rushed up to her room to get some herbs.

When she got back, she could feel the werewolf slowly losing its consciousness. She quickly gave it some herbs that would work quickly and strengthen its organs.

After helping it remove the silver bullets and broken silver blades in its body, Alora fed it despite not really replying to her because of its weak state.

"You'll be fine very soon." She whispered. "The herbs take a while before working so you'll have to wait here patiently. And please don't make any sound to get noticed. I'll be labeled a traitor if they knew I did this."

She knew it was listening to her but didn't reply. Its breathing had become steady and calm as if it was asleep.

Alora sighed before leaving him under a huge blanket she had brought along with her. She returned to her room and washed the dress she wore quickly before anyone of her maids would notice that her clothes were stained with blood.

As she changed her clothes, she wondered where the guards were. Weren't they supposed to be guarding the places she had passed through while bringing the werewolf in?

Walking to bed, she decided to pray no one would notice the werewolf where she hid it. Her thoughts went to the boom on the werewolves that she had been reading. It seemed different from the corner it was placed on, the golden inscriptions shone a bit brighter than usual.

She walked to the book and turned it open. She opened to the back page immediately and the last word she saw puzzled her. "Radolph?"

She remembered she had heard that name before. But her mind couldn't recall where. She sat down and opened to the place she had seen the name Radolph begin.

Reading the book till the following morning, the first thing Alora did was rush over to Ruger's room where she was sure he would still be because it was just dawn.

"Father. I'm sorry to disturb you but something is up with this book." Alora was about to show him the book but paused. "Oh you don't understand the language. But it looks like the book is magically registering what is happening. The war, everything is in this book. It says that only one person can stop this massacre."
