Chapter 18 - Quest 1 : Complete

A woman with long legs, and curly brown hair came out of the room.

Her eyes focused on William. "Want to explain yourself?"

William dusted his shirt off invisible dust, and then looked at the woman in confusion. "Tressa. Do you want to explain yourself to me by any chance?"

The woman's eyebrows twitched. "So you don't want to explain?"

William sweatdropped. "You threw a chair from the principal's office at me and my companions. I think I deserve an explanation more."

Tressa's eyes took on a deep red colour and her face gained a decaying grey colour.

Freya froze in fright. Another vampire.

She panicked. Was this interview a ruse to lure in humans for food? That was illegal now though! After the Great War of Bloodlines, the Vampire race had finally conceded to the fact that they would not attack a human unless they did so first. In return, the human race was supposed to donate blood every was after they turned 18.

But…Freya's mind circled the thought that she and Titus get turned into food.

Maybe there was some kind of a contract for the people in the interview. Perhaps that was why the original did not come in for this interview. Maybe the contract had words in invisible ink that stated that those who failed in the testing could become food for these vampires.

The female Vampire bent her knees, ready to jump.

Freya's face paled.

She found her vision blocked by the back of broad shoulders.

Freya blinked and looked up to find that Titus had stepped into her field of vision, becoming a barrier between her and the vampire.

Freya moved before she could think.

She grabbed Titus by the wrist and pulled him back to stand beside her.

Titus stumbled and looked at Freya in shock.

Her face was twisted into a scowl.

William sighed as he leaned against the wall of the door frame.

The woman froze and looked at Freya, the decay of her face giving her a grotesque image. "Your heart is beating too fast. Have you never seen a Vampire before?"

Freya shook her head.

The woman relaxed her face. Her fangs retracted, and her face regained its original lustrous skin tone.

"So who are these people?" the woman asked.

"Were you planning to kill us?" Freya asked in a squeaky voice, fear still filling her heart.

The woman blinked. "Why? Did you do something that warrents death at my hands?"

Freya took a deep breath to calm her agitated heart. "If you did not plan on killing us, why else would you transform in front of humans?"

The woman scowled. "I have good control over my bloodlust, human."

Freya nearly squeaked in fright, but forced herself to stand her ground. She was in the right.

"Your transformation still has the decaying effect," Freya said with a scowl. "That is only possible if the vampire is barely a year old. Are you telling me that you have control over your bloodlust already?"

The woman frowned. "And where did you hear that titbit?"

Freya's heart sank. Was she wrong?

"I am curious as well," William said, his eyes glowing with unholy interest.

Freya barely spared him a glance. "In the Kingston's article of Vampire Stages and the Law surrounding the Treaty."

The woman smiled. "I'm Tressa Regina. You are?"

Freya frowned. She looked at the hand she extebded towards her. "Freya Wang."

The woman put her hand down with a laugh. "You do realise that Kingston was a Vampire, right?"

Freya nodded. "Which makes his writing all the more accurate."

Tressa smiled. "It is rare to find teachers who actually read such obscure articles. Especially cross species. You must be the new Vampire Substitute."

Freya's heart thudded.

"Don't be stupid," William said. "She is a human. Do you really think they would even consider giving the Vampire Class to a human?"

The woman glared at William. "Then?"

"She is my new substitute!"

Tressa made a disbelieving sound. "How is that any better?"

"It is."

Tressa rolled her eyes.

"I think the two of you have argued enough," a raspy voice said from inside the office. "Bring them in so that I can look at them Tressa."

Tressa blinked and looked back. "Yes sir."

She motioned for the others to go in.

"Thank you," Titus whispered to Freya.

The girl looked up at him with round brown eyes. "Huh?"

"You did not need to do that," Titus said. "I had protection with me."

Freya ducked her head. She thoughts of her actions back then. "I…just reacted."

Titus laughed. "Thank you anyway!"

Freya smiled. "I just returned the favour for you trying to protect me from Mr Widons."

Titus raised an eyebrow. "Aren't we friends?"

Freya shook her head. "In relationships…even in…no…especially in friendship, you should never owe each other anything except respect and loyalty, because otherwise it creates bad blood between people."

Titus laughed. "That is such a bleak way of looking at the world around you, Freya."

"But it will keep you alive," William said. "Come on in, estemed guests. It is time to decide who gets what department!"

Freya nodded and followed after him.

Titus rushed forward and stepped between William and Freya.

The brown-haired girl gave him a questioning look.

"Just in case," Titus whispered.

Freya bowed her head in thanks. She made an actual magical friend. Ceron was different. She had known him since they were both kids, but she actually made a friend as an adult for the first time!

[Ding!]

Freya started in fright. What was that sound?

[Host Freya Wang has completed Quest 1:

Freya blinked. Right. The system.

Wait.

Did it just say she made friends with someone with an Actualised Magic?

Her eyes fell to Titus. They really were friends!

Freya eyes sparkled with excitement as she went to stand next to Titus in a line.

She observed the room around them curiously.
