Chapter Twenty One
Baron's tone was cold and alienated, and Mrs. Alice burst into tears as soon as his voice fell.
"How can you treat me like this...you can't treat me like this..."
"Why are you so sad, could it be that I did something wrong?"
"I am your mother, but you call me a guest, and you still ask me why I am sad!"
The baron didn't care about Mrs. Alice's hysterical voice. He replied slowly and calmly: "This manor, everything here belongs to me, If you are not the guest here, you think you are entitled as the host of this Manor?"
Mrs. Alice was clutching her chest as if she could not bear the blow. She fell to the ground and looked up at her son. Big tears gushed from her eyes and fell on her thin cheeks. She said sadly: " I know, I know you hate me, and I hate myself too. I didn't take care of you, but I have regretted it. Can't you forgive me? I beg you, please forgive me."
Seeing Mrs. Alice so sad, the Baron didn't even frown his eyebrows. He said: "Mother, you think too much. You are making trouble so unreasonably. It makes me wonder that if your spirit was messed up again..."
Mrs. Alice shivered suddenly, she stared at the baron and said, "No, you can't send me to a mental hospital..."
"If you were not sick, of course, I would not." The baron sighed and said, "Do you need more money this time?"
Mrs. Alice wiped her tears and stood up from the floor. She hesitated for a while, gritted her teeth, nodded, and said: "I need some money. You only give me a little money each time, like treat a beggar, so that I can I beg you..."
"How much do you want?" The baron interrupted her directly.
"I want...2,000 pounds!" said Mrs. Alice.
"2000 pounds? 2000 pounds can buy a small village." said the baron.
"You are so rich! You..."
The baron directly bowed his head and wrote the check. He handed the check to her and said, "Take it, this is the only thing you can get from me. I will ask you to leave Delman Manor this afternoon. I don't want to see you again for a year. Off you go."
Mrs. Alice left, and the Baron continued to work in the library, seemingly not caring about what happened just now. However, in the evening, the Baron played the violin in the room again, the same melody, still so sad...
...
The turn of spring and summer is the time when the nobles of the Capital throw parties. They ride horses in the morning, drink tea and chat in the afternoon, and dance lingeringly in the evening.
Every nobleman, every gentleman, every person with status will not miss such a good time. Of course, there are also active campers who will take advantage of this opportunity to cling to the rich and powerful peers and try to climb up desperately.
As a member of the nobility, the baron could not be absent from such activities. The entire Delman Manor became busy because the host had to go to the residence in the Capital.
Unlike the leisurely life in the country, the Capital is a metropolis in the true sense. In this era, this city is one of the best in the world.
Because this city has the most advanced factories in the world, the largest dock, merchants from all over the world, and the largest cargo distribution center. All goods are transferred here, which makes the whole city prosperous and vigorous.
Unlike the countryside, a manor is accompanied by gardens and lawns dozens or even hundreds of times the construction area. The land in the city is extremely concentrated and expensive. The buildings are all lined up. The closer to the rich's living community, the more valuable the land is and the smaller the area available for construction.
The baron's villa in the royal capital is a three-story house. The neighborhood is full of distinguished aristocrats or gentlemen. It is said that there is no neighbor from a merchant who can be found on the whole street.
The villa was idle for most of the time, and the baron only came here occasionally. He always lived in Delman Manor. So for the servants here, the arrival of the baron is a big day, as you can see from the decoration, it is completely new. They must have wiped the entire villa and even waxed it.
This villa is not as magnificent as Delman Manor. The servant's room is always not enough. Just when I was about to squeeze a room with others, Baron Oscar told me that I could live in the guest room next to his bedroom so that he could find me at any time.
Maybe it was because I took the risk to save him twice. Although we were embarrassed with each other when we are alone, he still trusted me incomparably. Both his study and bedroom were opened to me. This also means that as long as I want, I can get anything around the Baron...
That evening, I accompanied the baron to the banquet of Earl Hallock.
As I said before, there are high and low levels among servants. The servants of the earl are naturally higher than the servants of the baron, the servants of the gentlemen are higher than the servants of the merchants, and the servants of the rich are higher than the servants of the poor.
These things can be demonstrated to the fullest in a banquet.
I am only the valet of the Baron, but I look more decent than many gentlemen that night, and many even bowed to me until they found out that I was a valet.
Earl Hallock was in his early forties and was a typical nobleman.
He always wears a gorgeous robe with a long wig, his skin is pale, and sometimes he wears grease and powder. His relationship with his wife is very stiff, but he has had countless illegitimate children with his maids and mistresses, and every day is enjoyment besides enjoyment.
His status is valuable, but his funds are tight, so he has a very close relationship with the Baron. He is probably one of the most frequent guests of Delman Manor.
As the earl's 'close' friend, Baron Oscar received a very grand welcome. Almost the earl's family came to greet him. They also prepared the most comfortable and luxurious rooms for the baron. If it were ordinary people, they would have been totally flattered.
The baron seemed to be used to these things with ease.
The decoration of the banquet was very interesting. It was like walking into a flower room. There were tall palm trees with potted plants everywhere. The huge leaves stretched out towards the roof, like a fountain. There are also rubber trees that look like columns, with long dark green leaves layered on top of each other, almost blocking the guests in the corners.
I think this is for men and women to communicate privately.
I don't know the others, but here in the Baron, there is a beautiful girl hiding under these eye-catching flowers and talking to the Baron quietly.
She is the daughter of Lord Earl, Miss Emily.
"...They explained the system of the universe, and therefore calculated the motion of the stars and the ocean..." Miss Emily said: "All natural philosophy can be calculated from a mathematical point of view. This is really a great discovery, isn't it? "
Unlike those noble ladies with empty brains, Miss Emily is not only beautiful, but also very intelligent. I can't even understand a word of what she talked about with Baron Oscar.
The Baron seemed to be very interested in these, so he talked very enthusiastically with her. They talked about planets, comets, the moon, what cosmic system they were talking about, and the love affairs of some mathematicians. They seemed to talk endlessly about these topics.
Miss Emily's emerald green eyes stared at the Baron from beginning to end, with affection in his eyes. Her voice is also very attractive, with thin red lips open and close, which is unspeakable alluring.
For some reason, I suddenly felt a strong dislike for this young lady, even though this was the first time I saw her, I even taunted her secretly in my heart, not in vain, because the baron doesn't like women at all. I even thought viciously that she was so blatant to seduce a man like this.
But then it occurred to me that the baron had told me that he wanted to get married, and even a marriage without love would make him happy.
Yeah, So what if Baron Oscar likes men? Isn't he not getting married? He will get married sooner or later, marrying a woman as his wife.
This woman must be beautiful and extraordinary, with noble birth, well-trained, intelligent, and graceful, just like Miss Emily in front of him.
How matched the way they talked, they have a well-matched status, they have common hobbies, and maybe one day the baron will propose to her.
Compared with her, what do I have?
I am the son of a farmer and I have never read a book. Can we talk about such a profound topic? Do we have common interests? I have never been equal to the Baron. If Miss Catherine and I are so far apart, then the Baron and I are even more distant.
Just as I was immersed in a mess of thoughts, the Baron said goodbye to Miss Emily.
"I am very happy tonight, but I'm a little tired, please forgive me for being out of company." The baron leaned forward and said.
"Oh, please let me guide you." Miss Emily said softly.
The baron frowned, and said in a flat tone: "I'm sorry, the servant can help me."
After speaking, the baron passed through the crowd and left first.
I hurriedly followed the Baron away, turning my head inadvertently, I saw Miss Emily still gazing affectionately at the back of the Baron's departure.
Does she love him? If she loves him, that's fine...I thought to myself.
From that day on, I tried to read some esoteric books.
I found several books that the baron had read from the baron's library, including "The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy", written by Sir Isaac Newton, and "Solving Equations Algebraic", written by Joseph Lagrange...
I don't know what I'm doing. I actually don't understand these books at all. Whether it's music, literature, or mathematics, they are too esoteric and obscure. Maybe the nobles are different. They can read these books. Unlike me, stupid like a cow.
Even so, I still bite the bullet to read these books, even if I don't understand them, it's good to memorize them. I think maybe one day when the baron talks about these topics, I can also talk to him a few words instead of totally blank.
Until one day, I fell asleep on the sofa holding a book, not because I was too tired, but because the content of the book made me sleepy.
When I opened my eyes, Baron Oscar was standing in front of me, looking at the book in my arms and raising his eyebrows.
