Human territory outskirts, Kingdom of Mediolenum
There was a mansion, in the middle of a huge dense forest. A number of carts and carriages were standing outside the mansion, boxes from the mansion were being loaded into them.
Two demi-humans, both with long ears and fluffy tails, signifying a rabbit. One seemed to be elder than the other, both female. They both were carrying huge boxes, loading them inside a carriage, when suddenly the younger demi tripped and fell down, breaking the boxes she carried.
"Riva are you okay! Are you hurt?!"
Asks the elder demi with concern, she puts her boxes down and rushes to aid Riva, who had hurt herself.
"What is going on here!? Did you just break the boxes? You damn useless slave!"
A man in a formal black suit shouted at Riva. He seemed to be a noble, with a whip in his hand. He raised his hand to hit Riva with the whip-
"No stop! She is just a child! Leave her alone, you monster!"
The other demi stood between Riva and the Nobleman. But the man didn't stop, and hits the demi with his whip, hurting her severely, but he still didn't stop. He kept on hitting her again and again. The demi who was protecting Riva was bleeding, crying in agony.
"RUN RIVA! GO TOWARDS THE FOREST!"
"B..but sister what about you, I don't-"
"JUST GO ALREADY! ILL BE FINE"
Riva was shedding tears; she ran as fast as she could towards the forest. Her hands were covering her eyes, she could hear her big sister shouting in agony, but she didn't look behind. She kept on running deep into the forest as fast as she could.
There she found a cave, which lead under the ground. She enters the cave, and after walking for hours, she got out of it... leading her into another forest she had never seen before.
Riva knew where she was, well, not exactly. She kept on moving forward, not running, but walking. Her knees were bleeding from the injury she got after tripping back there, but she kept moving, hoping to find someone who could help her. There, she saw a boy, dark red hair, dark red eyes, and ears longer than a human.
She now knew exactly where she was, and started to follow the person. That's how Riva met Layn. She found herself to be so safe around him, like she never did before. Looking at that boy, made her heart feel at ease and she stopped crying... hoping, that her sister and she would reunite again.
Part I
"Amazing! Did you see that? The gates opened on themselves!"
"good grief, okay then Layn, I'll be heading out now... good luck"
"thank you so much!"
Layn bows while the carriage moves ahead. Now all Layn had to do was enter the school he so long awaited.
It was pretty lively inside the school. when the gates opened, he could see many students roaming around. It was like a typical high school scenario. Students had mixed uniform, though they all seemed to be of the school uniform. The uniform was white with different stripes on their shoulders. Some had red, some had orange, some had pink, etc. On top of the uniform some wore coats which were knee low.
"WOAH! This is amazing! I can't wait to enroll! But where do I go?"
After asking some of the students on the school ground, Layn entered the building on the right side. The floor was of hard wood, and it was lively inside too. There were many rooms that seemed to be classes. But the room he had to go was on the 1st floor. The closer he got to the room; the number of people around reduced.
There he stood, In front of a huge wooden door in the corner of the corridor. His heart started to beat faster, and after he gathered his courage, Layn opens the door.
"h... hello, I am here to enroll-"
The inside of the room gave him chills for some reason. The room was full of shelfs and books, and there was a strange ball-like glass structure in the middle of the room. No one was in the room, except for one person. There was a huge chair in front of the glass, with a big window behind the chair that was emitting light from outside. Because of the light from the window the person sitting on the chair could not be seen clearly as the shadows covered it.
"well hello there, kid. You are probably the last one to enroll. So, shall we begin?"
Layn could feel the goosebumps all over his body. The slow voice seemed to be that of a woman, and then, the person stood up from the chair.
"well, let's get this thing done quickly."
She was a beautiful lady, who seemed to be in her late 40s, but had close to zero wrinkles. She wore a huge brown witch hat, and a brown cloak.
Layn started to calm down. He didn't expect the person to look like this, but more like the devil himself.
"s... so, what do I need to do?"
"nothing much kiddo, just place your hand on top of the orb."
"the orb? Oh, I see. Alright."
Layn places both of his hands-on top of the ball-like glass which was an orb.
"Oh? What is this?"
The lady mutters to herself
"w... what is it? Is something happening?"
"well, actually quite opposite. Nothing is happening."
Layn's mouth was half open. He didn't know what this meant, but by looking at the lady, it seemed nothing special, as if this is the most uninteresting thing she ever saw in her life.
"what does that mean? Is it good?"
"well kiddo, you see, the higher your magic potency is, the stronger the orb will shine from light. But as you can see..."
Layn then looks at the orb where he had his hand on top of. Not even the slightest sign of light could be seen from the orb. As if the orb had absorbed all of the darkness from the room. Infact the sunlight was getting duller.
"WHAT? ARE YOU SAYING I HAVE NO MAGICAL ENERGY?"
Layn was starting to panic, he could burst into tears any time now. Layn was going to remove his hand from the orb, but the lady stopped him-
"wait a minute kiddo, this is strange. No matter how weak an individual is, he has to have some amount of energy. Even the weakest peasant in the human kingdom have some amount of inner energy"
"so, w... what does that mean? Am I weaker than a human peasant?"
Suddenly the lady's eyes widened as she gazed upon the orb with intensity. As if she was amazed by what she was looking. Layn couldn't understand what she was finding in that orb, until he himself looked at it
"W... w... what is this! Is it going to devour me?!"
The orb started to turn black, mist of dark fog started to move inside the orb. Slowly the room was turning darker. The sunlight from the window was getting weaker.
"I can't believe my eyes. This is impossible, this has never happened in the past three centuries!"
Layn's right palm which was above the orb started to glow red. His hand was feeling numb, but he tried to ignore it. The orb itself started to glow red within the dark mist inside.
"Hey kid, wh..who are you!?"
"UH MAM? CAN I REMOVE MY HAND NOW?!"
After The lady noticed Layn's condition, she immediately told Layn to remove his hand. The lady was sweating, but not from fear, but excitement. She had never seen such a thing in her life, and one could tell she had quite a lot of experience in this school.
Layn backed down while holding his right palm. The symbols stopped radiating the red aura, and the pain was now gone.
"Mam, w... what just happened? Was that supposed to happen?"
"to be honest, only one person could know the meaning of this. But for now, I have gained interest in you. What's your name kiddo?"
"I am Layn Vassago, 17, from the country-side"
"I see, well I am Miss Eveline Flauros, Head of medical department and sub-head of magical department of this high school."
"so, mam where do I go now?"
"You have just arrived in the nick of time. Run straight to the auditorium. There you will find out which house you will be going to. I believe the other students are already there..."
Layn nodded in acknowledgment and rushed out of the room. He jogged his way to the auditorium, which was on the ground floor. On his way he didn't see many students like before... he then realized that others are probably already there.
Upon reaching the auditorium, which was humongous, he could see many students sitting there. There were many seats in the middle, and lesser on the sides. There was a big stage In front where 4 students, 2 males and 2 females were standing. Though it seemed that the announcements had not yet started as everyone in the auditorium were whispering and gossiping to each other.
"OH! This is so awesome! I can't wait to see which house I'm going to be in!"
