Chapter 10 - Luna: New Era

The sky was illuminated by a bright silver moon hanging just above a well flourished forest. It's rays creeping through cracks created by spaced and fallen leaves on a tree to catch the different activities hiding behind the covering the dense forest provided.

Wolves in their true form prowling their territory, some in packs hunting for their prey, while animals of the lower food chain ran and hid to avoid being wolf food.

This is Luna Kingdom.

A wolf dominated world where animals of other species were as insignificant as dust.

It's not like they had a choice though.

Animals of the lower species as the wolves would call them could have revolted but their ancestors who tried several times before, failed woefully with few left to tell the tale on their deathbeds before giving up the ghost in grievance.

And although, the present generation of the lower class of Luna Kingdom had been riled up severally by their parents to fight back and save them from this brutality that the higher clan imposed on them even using their ancestors sacrifice as a catalyst, they stayed put.

They weren't going to go against the beasts that could almost predict anything. That is to say that the wolves had very keen senses, their sight, hearing, smell, super fast reflexes and above all the use of magic that was bestowed upon them by a goddess made them invincible.

So if they were to ambush them, just a slight snap of a twig and their heads would already be sent meters away from their bodies.

Even they felt that their ancestors were quite foolish, why would they try to carry out a lost cause?

So they had to swallow the indignance and unfairness for centuries. Older generations would explain to the lower generations that asked about their way of life and say,

"That's the way of life in Luna."

Hence, other animals have learnt to live like preys among their wolf counterparts over the years.

However, not all animals took this lying down. A particular specie stood out above the rest. They didn't attack the wolves physically but raised their status so high that the wolves had no choice but to acknowledge them.

The foxes.

They were the true legends, the ones who saved the lower class animals from the hands of the devilish wolves.

Ayont the vast scape of the dense forest that ensconced the fervor of the wild, elegant houses stood atop a lush green hill.

However, amidst the elegant house buildings, two were vastly different in structure and in position.

Just one look and you could tell that these houses belonged to the most influential beasts in the kingdom.

One of them belonged to the Lun tribe while the other, belonged to a fox.

Now this fox was the most superior of all the foxes in Luna, rising through the ranks with wealth, antique and knowledge never seen before. People referred to his wisdom as 'out of this world'.

He was also the only fox ever seen to use magic like the wolves which made him even more revered and earned him a court house right beside that of the mighty Lun's.

**********

In a room filled with books of different world languages arranged neatly on shelves that adorned the four walls, a candle was lit on a table that stood right in the middle of it all.

Sitting on a chair behind the table, a beautiful man with golden eyes like the rays of the sun sat with his face resting on the gloved fist of his left hand while his right hand placed a scroll into the candle light setting it ablaze.

The fire kindled the paper scroll, wiping out the words inked on it few hours ago that should never be seen by anyone else.

As the fire danced its way through the scroll, the only words visible at the end of the paper read,

'new era'

With the last piece of paper reduced to nothing, the man's lips quirked upwards prettily as he rubbed his fingers together to get rid of the ash in between them.

He gave the illusion of a human at first glance but the two pointed ears and fangs that slightly peeked out when he smiled showed that he was no human but a beast.

Raising his head from his clenched fists, his lush white hair rippled to drop to the front of his chest as his golden eyes focused on the man in black clothing kneeling before him.

Raev, his shadow guard.

"So you are saying he's nowhere to be found?" he asked with a raise of his eyebrows.

The man in black clothing kneeling on the ground, Raev, replied curtly, "Yes your highness. There's currently a pandemonium going on in his courtyard."

"I see. And his betrothed?" the man sitting on the chair asked as he stood up to stand in front of his window to oversee the waves crashing on the rocks that rested on the hills.

Clad in a white robe that had gold edges with his lush white hair that ran all the way to stop at his waist, he looked ethereal.

"She's yet to find out but I have sent someone to spread the news specifically for her hearing. So it's just a matter of time, your highness."

"Hmm. Well…" the man in a white robe started to say but didn't have a chance to complete his sentence when a distinct shriek pierced through the air and into his sharp ears.

There was only one person who could scream so loudly that his ears would tingle.

Kiara. The only being he loved but couldn't have.

"Prepare the carriage. We leave immediately." The man in white robes said as he placed both gloved hands behind his back and led the way out of his study.

"Where to, your highness?" Raev inquired politely as he straightened from the floor to walk two steps behind his master.

"To my love, of course." The master replied with a sweet smile which really didn't have any effect on Raev. His master always had this sickly smile on whenever it involved Miss Kiara.

After walking out of the huge building, Raev gave a curt nod before he headed to the stables to get the coachman, leaving his master at the doorstep who didn't mind the wait as he was in a hurry to get to his destination.

His golden eyes twinkled and dazzled under the lamp as his thought drifted. He had always been walking on eggshells since he got here. No matter how much wealth, knowledge or riches he acquired he was never as good as that beast.

Well, all of that was going to change soon. He was going to possess all he ever wanted whether they belonged to him or not.

'It is the beginning of a new era.' He thought as he headed into the carriage that had stopped in front of him.

The crack of the horse whip marked the dawn of a new revolution in Luna.

*************

A luxurious mansion that had a lush landscape with a mini-waterfall, fish pond and a stone bridge stood magnificently as lamps, pine trees and well groomed flowers adorned its facade.

A carriage arrived to pull up in front of a fountain placed at the center of the front yard.

The coachman quickly highlights to open the carriage door and out came a man clad in white and gold fitted robes. Lightly skimming through the scenery with his golden eyes, he shifted his attention to the mansion.

His business for today.

He had however barely taken a step to climb the staircase leading into the mansion when the butler of the household burst out through the doors and walked with slightly panicked steps to stop right in front of him.

Vaguely raising his head, the guest interrupted the words that attempted to spill from the butler's mouth.

"Yes Matthew. I just want to see your young miss. No one else." He said as blandly as possible.

His words brought a sense of relief to the petrified butler who was already shaking like a lifeless leaf about to be pulled by the strong yet gentle arms of the wind from a tree.

"Thank you so much sire. Then this way please." The butler said with the release of a sigh, before leading the guest down another path, away from the entrance of the building.

As they turned a corner and walked past arrayed rows of flowers, the butler couldn't help but sneak a peek at the guest behind him through the windows of the building.

Thinking back at what transpired few weeks ago between his masters and this young man, he felt goose bumps rising on his skin. He personally felt that this beast had a pretty thick fur to still be able to appear here after what happened.

It was a pity though, two young and promising beasts of Luna had fallen head over heels for a woman like his young miss. He really didn't know what they saw in her or maybe they were just blind.

As his thoughts transitioned from worry to pity, they walked round a large pond to arrive at a detached building that was equally luxurious in style. Pausing his footsteps to stop at the door of the detached building, the butler raised his folded hand to knock on it when it was swung open from the inside.

A maiden dressed in a purple dress emerged from within the house but stopped when she saw the guest standing at her doorstep.

With slightly open lips, she looked taken aback but was quick to find her composure to give a snide remark.

"Yo, who do we have here? Sir Sion, I thought the embarrassment my mother gave you two weeks ago was enough to reset your crazy brain but I see you're here again." She said with a raise of her right eyebrow and a fold of her arms.

She couldn't believe it, her guest was none other than Sion, the fox.
