Martina looked into the window after she reminisced what happened earlier inside Aga's office. She didn't know why did he react that way in front of Dalia.
It wasn't her intention. She knew Dalia admired Aga for the longest time even though she denied it every time she would ask her true feelings. Because of his strange actions, Martina came back to her senses.
She remembered how she begged for his help. How desperate she was to forget Blue Dobinson for her good sake.
"Damn! I almost forgot Dalia's true feelings towards him!" She murmured, hitting her head out of embarrassment.
Her actions led someone to be attached, but in the end, she ended up hurting the person who had helped her wholeheartedly.
"I need to talk to Dalia," she said with eagerness in her voice and face. Before she stood from the chair, she turned her gaze to Dalia's cubicle. In her dismay, Martina pouted her lips and seated back for the moment. "Where did that woman go during working hours? She must be working with that new story!"
For a couple of minutes, she stayed in her cubicle waiting for her best friend, Dalia. Guilt and conscience opened her eyes that her deeds were painful for other people around her. Martina didn't realize that she was selfish.
She only cared for herself to the point she set aside the people who truly loved her from the beginning. For almost two years, she despised the world—herself.
In the middle of chaos, an image of Blue Dobinson suddenly appeared in her mind. He was showing his killer smile to her while holding her hands tightly.
It was the best day of her life. Martina hoped she could bring back the time when she accidentally fell asleep in Blue's hut on the same day she had lost in the forest. In a short period of time, she felt a very special feeling she had never experienced before.
Her unpretentious life turned upside down after that incident. It was probably out of the world love story but she would cherish every moment she had with him.
And now that she surrendered, Martina was willing to wait patiently for his sweet, grand comeback. Every night, she was hoping that one day their paths may cross again and for the second time around, she would take the risk no matter what.
"Martina?"
"Martina?"
While she was daydreaming, Martina heard someone's voice. She thought it was part of the illusions she made but it was in reality.
"Excuse me, Miss Green!"
Martina stood straight when she realized who it was in front of her. It was the company's owner who had been dying to meet her in person.
She then lifted her head and greeted the Chairman brightly, "Good afternoon, Sir! I'm sorry for not recognizing you earlier."
The old man chuckled. He found it funny and impressive as it was the first time an employee reacted differently. Mr. Dorothy slightly tilted his head with a mischievous smile on his pale lips. He heard a lot about Martina Green who became the first woman writer who sold more than 100 000 copies worldwide in a week.
She was one of the company's best assets and he wanted to reward her hard work.
Mr. Dorothy looked into his left side where his secretary was standing. He then closed his palm until he received a small piece of paper.
He said, "There will be an upcoming awarding party this Saturday. I hope you can join us. It would be my pleasure to celebrate with the company's ace. Am I right, Mr. Wilson?"
Mr. Dorothy turned his gaze to him. He was accompanied by his secretary and with the head editor upon his arrival. Aside from visiting excellent writers, he came to meet a high-profile business partner from a foreign country.
"Y-yes, Sir! It would be great if she could join us this Saturday." Aga replied and tried to convince her. He didn't look into her way as it would only cause another misinterpretation.
Martina has no reason to decline the offer. She has nothing to do on the weekends and it could help her to breathe refreshing air after living in a close, dark cave.
She then accepted the invitation that made Mr. Dorothy smile widely. It seemed strange. His presence made her tremble in fear but she couldn't find the exact answer to her questions.
It was the first time she met the CEO but it felt the other way around. There was a little shade of confusion and familiarity. It felt like she saw him somewhere before.
"I-it would be my pleasure too, Mr. Dorothy. I will be going to join you in this prestigious party with all of you." Martina replied with confidence. "I will be there." She added and smiled over her shoulders.
Despite being anxious, she agreed and pledged to be at the party. There was no turning back anymore.
"I know you will say yes! However, I must go to my office for an important meeting," Mr. Dorothy said as his eyes sparkled like a diamond. His blue eyes were filled with excitement that brought fear to Martina. But she has no proof to be afraid of him. "See you around, Ms. Green!"
"See you around, Sir!"
Martina remained confident after they left her cubicle. There was no announcement that there will be a special visitor afternoon break. However, as soon as she turned around, Dalia came with a blank face.
A short smile flaunted on her lips as she thought it would be the perfect time to ask for forgiveness. She then looked into her way, taking a deep breath as she waited for Dalia. Yet, as painful as it was, Dalia didn't stop walking.
It was unexpected. Martina never thought of it. She knew Dalia since high school and she couldn't resist Martina's charm. But as time went by, things changed passively. Their almost perfect friendship was in vain the moment she asked Aga for a selfish favor.
"Is it a fatal punishment for being selfish?" Martina whispered to the air as her eyes were suddenly covered with warm, overwhelming fluid.
