Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6: AVOIDANCE

"Why are you suddenly showing up like that, Kwangmin-ah? You'll give me a heart attack!" Haewon, despite getting surprised by his sudden appearance, gently shrugged his hand off while still making eye contact. Kwangwin frowned briefly, although I am not sure why he immediately smiled to hide that odd reaction.

Did anyone notice that other than me?

"You're still calling me that..." He shook his head, displeased by how Haewon calls him.

"What, I'm older than you! Two months gap to be exact," She said while raising two fingers right on his eye level.

This guy started hanging out with us last year and completely ignored his friends, who were just a few tables away. I wonder why they still chose to stick with this guy. They should've realized it by now. Anyway, that doesn't concern me. I still do despise this guy.

Look at those glares they are shooting at us right now. I bet this guy doesn't even see them as his friends anymore.

What a selfish prick.

"I heard your conversation earlier," Kwangmin digressed while his attention turned towards my way. I noticed him eyeing me for a response.

"That's none of your business, good face." Kwangmin chuckled softly from my cold reply.

His gaze irks me. I hate making eye contact, and he knew that just by asking my friends. Does he have anything better to do? I better leave this cafeteria. Getting caught up with them would be the least of my concern if I flee now.

"Why not? I've already entered your—circle..." Leaving my tray on the table, I pushed myself up from my seat and walked away.

I glanced at Jun, who's been watching us awkwardly from the distance before I could hastily go towards the exit. He looked back at me with a solemn look on his face.

What's with that reaction? Does he have something to say to me? Even if he does—

"Would it change anything...?"

"Hey, Kim Yoona—" I got startled by Kwangmin, who heard my mumble. So, I immediately distanced myself from them and I began to walk away.

"Yoona? Where are you going?" Yeoryeong also stood up from her seat and tried to follow me. I turned to tell her not to go further, leaving her no choice but to respect my request to be left alone.

"Yoona! What's going on...?" Haewon's confusion was the last thing I heard before pushing the door and hurriedly getting out of the cafeteria.

Silence soon took over among the group as they all just exhale and take their seats to process what was going on. Yeoryeong, on the other hand, decided to change the awkward situation where they got involved.

"Don't worry about her! She doesn't go somewhere else other than our classroom," Yeoryeong hurriedly went back to their table, pushing Kwangmin out of her way to sit right next to Haewon.

"It all ends up like this, you know~" Bomi clicked her tongue as she shakes her head.

"You have no shame, Ban Kwangmin," she stated and turned the remaining page of the novel between her slender fingers, continuously scheming every content of it. The sound it made caught her friends' attention along with Kwangmin, who wore a perplexed expression.

"You show up, she leaves. Isn't that strange?" Yeoryeong added, glancing up and down at his stature.

"You must've done something, Kwangmin-ah!"

"Wah-hat?" He scoffed. He could not believe he's being blamed over something so trivial. He finds it laughable—any statement is ridiculous. It also leaves a hint of doubt, but it sounded more like some mockery.

"Stop acting clean and apologize to Yoona!" Haewon pointed her hair curler at Kwangmin as a warning. Almost like a threat with the way she holds it. What bothered him much more was that he had no clue when that idea started.

"Wh—I haven't even done anything particularly wrong!" Kwangmin opposed, pushing the hair curler with his forefinger away from his face. He hesitated before doing so. You don't know whether the hair curler is still steaming or not. But thankfully, it did not burn his skin because of its deactivated state.

"Aigoo, he seriously doesn't know. I feel bad for Yoona," Bomi sarcastically uttered as she began playfully flipping through the pages. She seems to be done reading the book.

"Wh-What do you mean? Can you please go straight to the point–" Just as when the situation is beginning to heat up, Jun stood up from his chair that slid away from his table. It made a loud noise that it caught everyone's attention, and now their eyes shifted to him.

"Ah–" It took him a while to respond. Their watchful gazes began to give him anxiety. Jun couldn't help but tremble in panic as he avoided their judging eyes.

"...Please, pardon me," Showing an apologetic smile, he rushed towards the exit. Still, a few remained looking at the swinging door where he just pushed to retreat from the cafeteria. They all pondered about his sudden outburst and what could be the cause of it.

"...What's up with him?" Kwangmin asked in confusion.

"Who knows, our Jun boy must've thought you said something wrong too," He then shot Bomi a glare. She immediately retreated by replying to him with a shrug to end her assumptions there. These two were always not in good terms.

"Finally! Some time alone. Man, I couldn't stand that jerk's face," feeling relieved, I threw my hands up and did some stretches.

I walked quietly in the halls and soon stopped by the window. No matter how long I look at it, the biggest star of the solar system isn't visible in the vast gloomy sky. Was all this scientific bullshit just a fraud? Why do we even study this if we don't have the proof right before our eyes?

"Within my 17 years of living, I can't believe I've learned something I will never see," Whoever saw the sun before I came out of my mother's womb must be very lucky to experience natural heat.

The tips of my fingers are getting colder like ice. I could only rely on our school's heater, which was placed in every corner of this school. Thanks to that famous Doctor, whoever that is, we can avoid hypothermia. Was he from uh? Medical Something Corporation?

"Ah."

MedExpert Co.

It is one of the largest medical companies known globally. They have great inventions to keep the whole city safe for everyone to visit. How long have they been running their medical services and stuff? Well, maybe older than my grandma. Most of my relatives work for the company, and I am lucky enough to study in this school under their aid.

Although I only learn bull crap. This school should've taught us how to deal with taxes instead.

But I guess it's not that bad. I wish to grow up fast and get out of here as soon as possible.

"...Yoona?" A familiar voice spoke that came from behind. I quickly turned my head to see Jun standing there, stunned that I heard his soft voice calling for me. I found myself in a Deja vu moment. This situation wasn't the first time we've encountered each other like this.

"Oh...it's you. Again."

He timidly approached me as he seemed reluctant to speak up to me. I had a feeling I wouldn't like what he's going to tell.

"...Can we talk?"

And that would be something I fear to face.
