Chapter 2 - The Chase

Blue. All I could see was a light shade of blue. A warm breeze swept over my face, making me smile. It was extremely relaxing. I could fall asleep here, on the soft bed I was lying on- even though I just woke up.

Wait…

I sat up suddenly and looked around.

Sand and the sea. Nothing but a desert and an ocean which stretched to how far I could look. And the beautiful sky which I couldn't have differentiated from the sea if the waves weren't splashing.

I got up, brushing the sand off my hair. My clothes were dry, but a bit damp in some areas.

My feet didn't feel good- yet I found myself walking around the void-like place looking around desperately for something. Something except the strand and the sea.

I contemplated it all. Did this all really happen? Or was it just a dream?

I bit my lip to the extent it started to hurt. Without realizing, tears started falling down my face. My first instinct was to stop crying- even though there was no one here.

Or so I thought.

A person stood in front of me. The person I hated the most at this moment. The psychopath kidnapper who brought me here.

My blood boiled at the very sight of him.

Instinctively, I grabbed some sand and threw it at him.

I regretted it instantly.

He had a sudden glow of hunger in his eyes.

Hunger of murder.

I shrieked and started running like crazy.

While running, I saw a piece of wood. A wooden plank, most probably, of our boat.

Impulsively, I turned around and threw it at the maniac.

He screamed in agony and at that moment I knew, I messed up real bad. Picking up one of the pieces of the now crushed plank I ran away almost as if I knew what was in store for me. I had no knowledge of direction and just ran.

It was a long while after, I was running on grass. Grass turned to itchy weeds, and eventually ended up in the forest.

My feet were sore, my throat was dry, and hunger had taken over my whole body.

I turned over to find the psychopath still trailing me though half a mile behind me.

I stopped. I couldn't move on any further. I fell on my knees, gasping for air.

I looked around me for water. But all I could see was a cliff.

A cliff…

I stood at the cliff with my arms open, waiting for the psychopath to reach me.

Good thing he was pretty sped up.

As soon as he reached me…

I jumped aside.

The psychopath couldn't stop himself and fell down the horridly black cliff.

It was over. It was all over now.

Or so I thought.

As I was walking away, I felt something grab my foot.

It was him.

He was hanging from the cliff with the support of my foot.

I screamed and cried, begging him to let go, but it was of no avail.

Knowing that the psychopath would not let go, I took the crushed piece of the plank and hit it on his hand, which was on my foot. All I heard next were the screams from the psychopath and the loud thud of his body hitting the bottom of the cliff.

My hands shaking, my mind full of guilt, I started crying loudly. I had just committed a grievous crime. I ran. For no reason, I just ran. Until I saw it, a lake. Which meant water.

I walked towards it, forgetting everything that had just happened and bent down. The water was as clear as a crystal. Probably because it had never had any human in contact with it.

I washed my face with the cool water and drank some of it.

It felt very refreshing, when I was about to put my feet in the lake. I saw the water gurgling and heard weird noises. I looked in front of me…

My eyes widened and I backed away.

Getting water was going to be a lot harder now.
