Wes and Austin was shocked. That's her mum?? That pretty young lady?? Wow...just wow! Austin still couldn't believe it.
"did you just see that?".wes said. Austin turned to face him.
"yes. I thought she was gonna hug the matured Lady!".
"that was my exact thought".wes replied.
"mummy, look at those kind men...They stayed with me until you came, and they bought me lot of things. They are my friends".Ariel said.. "especially that one". Ariel pointed at the one wearing a black fur coat.
Cathy walked over to them. She wanted to thank them "uh, I heard what you did for my daughter...",she froze on seeing the face of the person putting on the black fur coat.
Austin could not explain her reaction once she saw him. 'have she seen me in one of her nightmares?".he thought.
"helloo".he waved his palm across her face. She finally snapped out of her daze, and took few steps back, pulling Ariel as well.
"whats wrong?",Wes asked, touching the lady, but she flinched, taking more steps back. She turned quickly, pulling Ariel along. Naive Ariel turned back and waved at them.
"whats with her?".Austin asked no one in particular. Wes spread his palm and shrugged his shoulder, indicating that he doesn't know either.
Cathy got back home. She was still in a daze. Why was he here? Did he come for the child? Geez!....she freaked out at just the thought that he was here to take Ariel.
"mummy, you didnt even say bye to them".Ariel grumbled.
"what did that man say to you?".Cathy asked.
"You mean my friend?",she paused "he said he likes me, and that am cute. Then he asked me if I was hungry...".Ariel shrugged.
"anything else?".she asked.
"no! ".Ariel looked at her mum. "is something wrong?".
"stay away from that man arie". She wasn't sure she was ever gonna see him again, but she decided to tell her daughter just in case.
Austin arrived home along with wes. "why was she like that?". He mused.
"yea! Right? She acted like you're some kinda freak show". wes replied.
Austin glared at him. "must you make it any worse than this?".
"sorry man, but it was really funny. She was like...ahhhh, I just saw a ghost". Wes laughed loudly.
Austin ignored him. He tried brushing the thought outta his mind, but her face kept appearing, and when it does, it made his head hurt. He finally slept off on his couch.
It was a bright snowy morning. Cathy was already up, and she had put the memories of yesterday behind her. She prepared the bath for Ariel as she was done bathing.
"mummy, have you packed my bag?".Ariel asked, as her mum buttoned her shirt.
"no!".
"mummy, have you eaten?".
"no!".
"mummy, can I come home with a school bus?".
"no!".
"okay! Mummy will you come pick me early?".
"I'll try".
"mummy....".and that's how she kept on babbling, and Cathy kept replying her with not more than three words.
Cathy dropped Ariel off at school, and went to work. She worked as a librarian.. She was lucky enough to get the job since she was quite into writing, reading and all. She also started writing online, so she could earn more money.
She was in a state of despair as she realised she wont be able to do much of her writing since there were a lot of costumers. Oh she forgot! The library was usually filled on Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays, they come to drop off the book they borrowed, and take new ones. Students come in to read, and so on.
"thanks. Come again".she said to the people who showed her the books they either took or returned.
"Scarlet". Cathy smiled at her. This was the fifth time she had come to return a book for today. "you're done?".she asked, and scarlet nodded.
"this one was a walkover!".she replied and cathy chuckled slightly.
"i would really love to work here!".she pouted. Cathy would really like that too, but she had no say. She didn't have the power to employ.
"i will talk to the owner, okay?".she said, and scarlet smiled happily.
"am looking forward to it. I wanna head home now".the mere mention of home reminded Cathy that she hadn't picked her little girl from school.
She glanced at her wristwatch and let out a gasp. They closed an hour ago. "scarlet, uh...please would you...watch over while I go pick Ariel?".she asked. Scarlet knew about Ariel since they lived in the same apartment.
"no problem".scarlet replied, and Cathy muttered a thank you, before grabbing her coat and purse.
She rushed to Ariel's school, and the gates were already closed. She asked the gateman about her daughter, but he had no idea. He even checked the school again, but she wasn't there.
