The next few days that went by, Cathy made out time to pick her daughter. She didn't let him get even close to her, but it seems her daughter he gotten attached to him already.
"mum, can we go see uncle Austin?". She would ask everyday.
Cathy always gave her the same response "NO!".
It was a weekend yet again. The snow still fell gracefully. She dropped Ariel st Scarlet's place to go buy some groceries. She didn't want that incident occurring, most especially, she didn't want her to meet Austin.
She stood outside as she out on her hand gloves properly. Someone walked up to her....and outstretched a coffee to her.
She glanced over, and jolted backwards.
Austin couldn't help but ask "what? Are you scared of me?".
She rolled her eyes. Was that even a question? He raped her! She sighed and began walking away.
Austin was determined to know what's wrong, so he followed her.
"you didn't answer me!".he reminded.
"i don't see any need to".
"why?".
"stop following me!".
"am not!".
She increased her pace and so did he.
"i like your daughter!". Cathy stopped on her tracks.
"what'd you say?".
"i said I like your daughter!".
Cathy was kinda confused. He said he likes 'her' daughter.
She didn't say anything. Infact, she didn't know what to say, so she starting walking away. He still followed her, lost in his own thoughts.
"can I come see her after we're done?".
"no!".
"why not?".
"its my decision!".
"okay...but why?". Cathy ignored him. It'd be useless replying him. She got to the grocery store, since she chose not to go to the market today.
After buying all that was needed, she headed back home. It seems the pest won't stop bugging her. She was already frustrated.
"don't you have a home or something?". She asked, irritation clear in her voice.
"i do!".
"then go there and leave me alone!".
"are you married?". He suddenly asked, and she paused. She just lost it now. She folded her hands into a fist and let out a long sigh, trying to calm down.
"mind your business young man".she sighed again, rubbing her forehead slightly.
"i was just asking, that's all".
"well don't".
She increased her pace, then stopped.
"if you follow me again, I'll call the cops!".she threatened, and Austin made a go ahead sign as he followed her.
She got to her apartment, and rushed into the elevator. Luckily, he didn't follow her anymore. She heaved out a sigh. What a pest! She got out of the elevator when it got yo the fourth floor; that's where she stays. She went direction to Scarlet's door and rang the door bell.
"mmm?".someone's head popped out.
"uhm...".she looked at the room no. No. 32 while hers was No. 37. "isn't this Scarlet's room?".she asked, just to be sure.
"yes! And you are....".he asked.
"oh, Catherine.".she replied.
Then, the door was widened. "Cathy you're back. Don't mind him, this is my cousin Dylan!".Scarlet introduced, as she came out.
"come in".she said.
Cathy walked in. Her daughter immediately saw her and ran to hug her.
"mummy, I made a new friend".Ariel said.
Her mum swooped her up. "really? And who's that?".
"uncle Dylan. Now I have uncle Dylan, aunt scarlet, uncle Wesley, and uncle Austin who is my favourite!".she said innocently. Cathy however was not happy about this.
"uhm...scarlet thank you so much. We'd get going now!".
"you're always welcome". Scarlet replied, smiling.
"bye aunt scarlet".Ariel said. "bye uncle Dylan".she gave him a light high five as her mum carried her past Dylan.
As soon as Cathy had left with Ariel, Dylan closed the door.
"who is she?". Dylan asked.
"are you hitting on her?". Scarlet teased, as she fixed her eyes on Dylan.
"no...".It was barely heard, more of a whisper. "maybe!".he thought to himself.
"well, she lived likes four room away and uh..that sweet girl you were playing with, is her daughter!".
"her daughter?".he looked shocked. "is she married?".
"uh, I can't say for sure, but I have NEVER seen her with any guy whatsoever. She is always so reserved!". She emphasized the never.
"okay!".
"if you're hitting on her, better knock it off. She don't hang out with guys!".
"i am not hitting on her..besides, I just met her. Geez!!".
"love at first sight". She teased.
"ugh! Fuck off scarl".he rusher inside his room, and slammed the door shut.
"man, where have you been? You didn't even let me know you were going somewhere huh?".wes asked, talking like a father scolding his son.
"fuck shit dude!".Austin sat down on the front entrance stairs.
"whats wrong dude?".
"never mind. I ask again wes. Was there anything.....".he paused. "how long have you known me?". He asked.
"huh? Since you came to reside here!".wes replied. "precisely four years ago!".
"so...since, what do you know about me? I mean in terms of my relationship!".
"why all these questions dude?".
"just answer the motherfucking question!". Austin retorted.
"well uh....you're not the type that likes flocking around with girls. Uh, but three years ago, you once told me about a certain someone....something like a love at first sight...".he paused, scratching his head.
"go on. Who was the person?". Austin urged wes to go further.
"uh, you said you didn't get to know her name....I don't know! I thought you've gotten your memory?". Wes asked.
"i have but...".he paused. He just couldn't explain it. Like....there was something he was forgetting.
"am not sure...".wes looked intently at him. "i am not quite sure...". He paused, thinking. "okay what happened uh.....when we were at the mall...four years ago?". Wes asked.
"geez man! That girl...Jolene. She kissed me, claiming we were dating. Must you remind me about that?". Austin asked.
The thought could make him heave.
Cathy freshened up, and did same to Ariel. She wore her her nighties and dropped her on the bed.
"Ariel?".she called out, as she laid besides her.
"yes mummy?".the little girl turned to face her mum.
"why do you like uncle Austin?".
She thought for a while. "he's handsome and he is friendly, and he bought me balloons and chocolates. He also likes me too". Cathy sighed. What was she expecting Ariel to say-- that she feels a connection with him?? She chuckled at her own foolish thought.
"but uncle Dylan is also friendly right? Why is uncle Austin your favourite?".
"mmm...well I also like uncle Dylan, but I just met him. Maybe he'll be my favourite soon".she replied.
"really?".Cathy beamed, and Ariel nodded. Then she would keep dropping Cathy over at Scarlet's house. She wanted her daughter to forget about Austin, completely. Forever!
