Why did we have to go to Angel's Watch?
"What do you mean you aren't a cleric of Gaia?"
"I told you, I'm not a cleric!"
Better question: why did I let Kayla into my mom's church?
"Then how did you get the Divine Power that set off the guardian?"
"I don't know!"
I will say, their guardian system is decent, if a bit poetic. Stone Angels guarding the doors to every church, checking for Divine and Demonic Energies to prevent sabotage and crime. You have to whitelist everyone you don't want the guardian's to stop. These specific ones can even tell what type of energy you have, narrowing it down to the type of god you received the power from.
"Well, we can't let you in with an answer like that. Young lady, you have a few things to figure out. I recommend visiting the guild, they have some system to help determine what god Divine Power belongs to, really wish they'd share that with us."
"We'll be sure to check it out, wouldn't want to be walking around in the holy stronghold without knowing where our blessings come from."
"Greg-"
"Calm down honey, I'm sure it's just some kind of misunderstanding. We'll get this cleared up sir, thank you for the suggestion."
This would go on for hours otherwise.
"… Why did you call me that?"
Not again!
"So we were a little less suspicious to the police in the city we are staying in."
"Oh… Well you'd think they'd recognize us by now, we've been here for 4 months."
"Even if they did they have to take the precautions, plus he was new, so I'm sure he was just as confused as he looked."
"Either way, are we going to go reveal your majesty to the world today?"
"You know better, back to the room so I can renew your enchantment, I can't believe you forgot this morning."
"I forgot! Well excuse me for not thinking about it in the 5 minutes you gave me to get ready before running out the door after some rumor of a witch. Turns out it was just a mage practicing slavery enchantments being arrested. Glad we didn't find your sister that time, huh."
"Hey, how was I supposed to know it was an old dude with no morals and a lot of spare time. It could have been my sister, or a maiden in distress."
"What, are two beautiful women not enough for you."
"Firstly, rude. Secondly, Lils is a dog!"
"A dog that can talk and is obviously more than a normal pup."
"The point stands!"
"Whatever you say master~"
"Don't call me that."
"Uh huh."
"Shut it."
"Didn't say anything."
Sometimes I question my choice in party members… But I really don't understand her. One second it's kissing me in public, the next it's pretending she never did.
"Good Sir, Madam, could I interest you in a small demonstration?"
"Sorry, I think you'll have to repeat yourself; my friend here has a habit of spacing out."
"Oh. Apologies Mr…"
"Dr. Jenson, creator of the new Elixir of Strength!"
"An Elixir? Do you happen to be an alchemist?"
"That I am, Though you could call me surprised that a youth like you could tell, we are a dying breed after all."
"Yes you are. So this Elixir of Strength, how does it work?"
"That, my good sir, is a trade secret. Though I assure you it's effects are potent and painless, capable of increasing your strength by up to 200%, I have a small dose ready to be taken as a demonstration, if you'd care to try it for yourself."
"Hm. Interesting. May I propose a wager?"
"I am not much for gambling good sir, but do, state your terms."
"I happen to be a decent enchanter, I propose that I can describe how your potion works, as accurately as can be assumed, at least. If I am successful, I'd like you to teach me alchemy. If I fail to determine, I will make you a custom work, enchanted as you specify."
"Ah! You drive a hard bargain sir, and I am confident in my abilities and judgement. What is it the kids say… You're on!"
"So be it, I will take your demonstrative potion."
"You're sure this is good Idea Greg?"
"Bark?"
"It'll be fine, even if I lose I only need to make an enchanted blade."
Down the hatch.
"I meant about drinking the potion, but I guess it's a little late to question that now."
"Oh. Maybe lead with that next time."
This potion is decent. It isn't like the ones my uncle could make, but it is certainly nothing to laugh at, especially for someone from after the collapse of magic. What is this enhancement though… It isn't simply increasing my muscle mass or density… It isn't changing the concept or my perceptions… Magical integration? Close, it isn't just using my magic to increase my strength directly. Is it using me as a conduit to use gravity magic to change the force acting on nearby objects to give the illusion of increased strength? A decent idea, this guy has potential.
"Your potion, does it use me as a conduit to use gravity magic to grant the illusion of tripling my strength?"
"… You actually guessed it… Who are you?"
"Maybe you'll get a better idea of that while you teach me, as per our wager."
"I don't really think the wager is necessary at this point, you had my attention, but now sir, you have my curiosity."
"Good, glad to have you on board Dr. Jenson."
"I guess I should prepare to move into your inn, could you give me directions?"
"Of course. If you find the Adventurer's Guild, head 5 blocks south, then two east. The inns name is the sleeping dragon."
"Isn't that just on the edge of the heretical district?"
"Don't worry about that, they don't dare mess with the sleeping dragon, the matron is quite the retired adventurer."
"So you say, I should arrive in the next few hours, until then."
"Until then."
"I guess you've taken an interest in alchemy?"
"Less alchemy and more our alchemist, he has potential to be quite the potion master. That potion used some advanced techniques that I haven't seen since before the Collapse. I am surprised by how amicable he was though."
"Well, lets hope he doesn't have too many ulterior motives."
"Have a bit more faith in people Kayla, he seemed strait."
"Whatever you say. We should get home, you still need to set my enchantment."
