Ace knew he couldn't push Cora even though there were a million more things he wanted to say. She was freaked out enough already. Whatever made her so against the soulmate system had to be bad.
But what? Was it her parents? She had been fairly young when she realized what their attribute was and never did anything about it.
He believed her when she said it wasn't personal. She seemed far too upset by anything to do with soulmates in general for this to be about him. He had never done anything to her.
Ace was determined to stay on her good side. It was the only way he was going to be able to make sure she was alright. Not knowing had been bothering him all this time. He could stay on the fringes of her life and not get involved just like both of them seemed to want…though for entirely different reasons.
