Before Asher knew it a month had passed, he had completed most of his list and his life had improved at a rather dramatic pace. People at his work still picked on him for his (percieved) weakness but the worst of them somehow always seemed to miss him in the corridors. one person who he truly hated had actually gotten fired for picking on "weaker" employees, Asher didn't know if that was the luck Stat at work but he was certainly thankful.
very few people knew about his luck Stat, it turned out to only appear if he was appraised by someone who also had the skill to unlock placing points in luck or if their appraisal was at least level 5, which few were. Asher was thankful for that, if it were made public that his luck was that high people would instinctively be weary of him. because luck was the only Stat that could impact the world outside of the user people were naturally distrust them not for anything actually to do with the person but because if they felt liking towards them they would never know if it had to do with the luck Stat manipulating them. Asher had looked around on message boards after having found out that his luck was maxed and most of the posts were something like "my girlfriend broke up with me because someone with high luck wanted to be with her, can I reverse it?" or "one of the players at our weekly poker game unlocked the luck Stat, how do we kick him out?" one of his favorite posts went by the name of "my friend has high luck and he always gets chicks, how do I be like him?" because half the replies were just saying to get charisma (the other half were cursing out luck users, but half is better then all).
most of the posts allowed Asher to zero in on one thing, high luck gives the bonuses of all the other Stats but at a much lower rate. by collecting data on various instances of people with the luck Stat using it to substitute for other stats he was able to figure out that 5 points in luck added up to approximately one point of each other Stat, which was amazing considering that there are ten stats, so his 320 points added up to each of his other stats being boosted by 64 in practical use! though there were a few caveats to this, firstly that it wasn't a true boost to those other stats, someone with 64 vitality could survive being hit by a truck at close range, while a luck user would not be able to, this is because while the truck would miss all the most vital areas and do the minimum possible damage and slow down as much as physics would allow before hitting it would still be a truck hitting a human body without any extra reinforcement, additionally asher's experimentation had lead to the conclusion that he did not have 64 points worth of bonuses to all his skills.
this lead to asher's second conclusion about luck, the effects of luck on his other skills would be multiplicitive rather then linear. for instance, an int user slowing down their perception of time to follow every train of thought to the end to find the best solution to a problem would take time based on their int Stat, the higher the int the more time would be slowed down, but luck had the same effect except that rather then giving you more time it reduces the time required by making it more likely that the answer you come up will be the correct one. if you combine these two things you get an even better effect, the slowing time allowing the int user to have more ideas in reduced time and the luck allowing them to follow less incorrect ideas while time is slowed would be far faster then either Stat alone.
This lead Asher to an unfortunate conclusion, he was still weak in spite of having Stats now. this did not come without a silver lining however because of the investment in luck each point placed in another Stat meant that he would grow at a much faster rate then others, though he was still pissed that he wouldn't be able to fight on par with others at the same level just yet, in practical use his stats were mostly around mid 20 range.
there had been one extremely positive development, this was on the weekly quest front, he had figured out how the quest worked and it was extremely easy to complete as well as to increase the rewards. because his luck was so high he had a %150 chance of the best rewards from his weekly quest, this meant that rather then being assigned a skill he would simply receive an sp and an ap each week upon completion of his quest, and that was before the extra %50 kicked in. In the case of the bonus that he had a %50 chance to get it would always be an extra skill, this didn't seem to be able to become an sp or ap and would be chosen by the system but considering it was an extra freebie he had no complaints.
The quest to "improve your life" could be completed any number of ways, from exercise to asking someone on a date to doing his job properly and getting accolades. Asher found that simply by jogging or otherwise exercising for an hour each morning while pushing himself and working his job as usual would complete the base level of the quest, anything beyond that accrued additional progress but Asher needed more time to test to see the actual effect of the additional work he put in, his theory was that luck impacted which skill was chosen and the progress impacted the rarity of the skill, on his second day out of the hospital he had gotten it to %400 simply by finishing his recovery (not being in a hospital bed was an improvement if he had ever seen one) and received the bonus skill "grand deceiver (1/10)" the system had obviously somehow realized that he needed to keep his stats hidden and had given him the single best stat/ability hiding skill it had which also allowed him to display his stats as whatever he liked, it was usually reserved as a class skill for spies, con men, and rogues. the third week he had left it at %105 because he hadn't quite known what to do and had received "verbal combat (1/10)" which had become useful a couple days later and gotten him praised for dealing with a difficult caller at work but it was also a significantly weaker version of the "grand persuader" skill that could be acquired by charisma classes and could be used in many more situations then "verbal combat", if he ever wanted a similar skill in the future he would always get "grand persuader" which would make his point in "verbal combat" nearly useless. in short Asher resolved to take as many efforts as nessesary to raise the completion as far as possible in order to get better skills. unfortunately the other two weeks he didn't make the 50/50 and only got sp and ap.
the only points he had spent thus far were to max "grand deceiver" because he needed to study the effect of luck on his various skills as he raised them while testing.
on the subject of study, one of his trusted friends was making time in his packed schedule of fights and tournaments to come help him on Tuesday, Asher had scheduled time off and he was psyched.
