Ruby red eyes! That same lustrous eyes she saw from the treehouse!
The one with the ruby eyes kept walking towards a dumbstruck Diana. The intimidating height and unnerving eyes made Diana gulp in fear. When he further moved towards her, she voluntary stepped back, then soon blocked by a tree.
"St...Stop there!", she warned him. "One step and I'll kill you!" she continued.
He paused maintaining the distance.
"Who are you?", Diana asked him. She thought for some time and rephrased the question. "Wh...What are you?" She couldn't day if he understood the language she spoke.
She was still pointing the sword toward him with both her hands. She was ready to attack anytime. Still, her hand was shaking in fear, pathetically.
The one before her didn't speak or move forward. He was still without any movements.
"Where's Wyatt?", she asked once again.
The man in front of her who was still all this while, slightly tilted his head once as if he couldn't understand her question.
"Wyatt!", Diana helplessly called out his name while looking at the one in front of her. She was indeed scared to take her eyes off him as he may attack her using her carelessness.
"Wyatt!", she called again. This time her confidence quaked a little. What if something bad already happened to Wyatt?
When she was about to call his name again, the one before her leapt forward, roaring "Watch out!".
It was too late to watch out! Someone had already grabbed her wrist. The hand that grabbed her, pulled her forcefully. Her sword fell to the ground with a 'clung'.
Diana could see that this beast was the earlier one. The man with sapphire eyes.
The blue-eyed beast didn't give the other two the time to respond. It dragged her a few feet away and then bit her immediately.
It didn't have proper teeth to start with. It bit her left wrist. It was painful. She was hurting more than what she thought a bite would hurt. Its canine teeth were sharper than a normal person's, more like fangs. The blood seeped out from the sides of its mouth as it continued to drink her blood. Diana felt weak within seconds as her consciousness began to fade away.
'They'll tear your body, drink your blood then eat you!', the rhyme echoed in her ears. 'Had she been too ignorant and arrogant all her life, not believing the elders?'
Surrounded by two beasts at the same time, Diana started to lose hope.
Thud, thud…. She heard the noise from the other side. Of course, the ruby-eyed beast is also coming to tear her body, drink her blood, and... She drearily turned her head to the side, but this time, the man was not there anymore.
The scene before her gave her goosebumps even in that situation. If it was a normal day, she might have even felt glad to see such a majestically beautiful beast.
Yes... Breathtakingly beautiful... Like a beautiful dream covered in pearl black fur. Upright ears, ruby-like sharp eyes and that long bushy tail... It was beautiful, undoubtedly.
What she saw was not humanlike but a real beast... A giant ferocious black wolf!
Not just any ordinary black wolf, but a wolf that had grown above her head.
Its pearl black hair absorbed the small amount of light in that area, and still shined brilliantly. The hair around its neck and back stood up for some reason, forming a temporary mane. It growled once exposing its orderly white teeth. Then galloped forward with gritted teeth, still looking prim and proper, so focused on its mission.
Diana's heart froze in fear.
It leapt passing her, forcing away the man who was drinking her blood. When the man fell to the ground, the wolf turned to her, as if to check on her. Maybe it's a habit to check the quality of its food.
Diana was still conscious. The wolf with its ruby-red eyes, looked into hers once before it turned towards the man, clenching its teeth.
The man had already stood up.
"It's not your fight, stay out of this!", the blue-eyed beast warned in an inhuman voice that echoed in the woods.
'So they can talk too? Do they communicate in human languages? But why is this dumb beast talking with a wolf? Could it be... could it be that? Like the granny told her...', Diana couldn't help but wonder even in that situation.
"She is mine!", the blue-read eye beast insisted.
The wolf didn't reply in human language as Diana feared, instead, it roared once and then jumped on the man before it. Within a few seconds, Diana started to lose strength in her legs. She tried her best to pull her out of the scene. She was extremely tired since her blood was sucked out. She finally collapsed and fell to the dampened ground. With that, her momentary daze faded away. Her eyes started to tear up because of the unbearable pain. The two holes in her hand were still seeping with blood. Her head started to hurt.
The two beasts fought fiercely behind her, raising havoc. She could hear them. Even though she could use this time to escape the scene, she couldn't drag her body anymore. She felt numb all over.
She slightly turned to see the wild, unrealistic, intense battle between the two beasts. It was a battle where the winner would prey on her. It's a pity that she had to witness it!
Tears rolled down her eyes when she thought about Wyatt. 'Is he dead?' Her heart couldn't bear the pain. 'Did he die a violent death, torn by these beasts just like how those rhyme stated?' Diana couldn't help but clutch her head which was in pain with both of her hands. 'Wyatt,' her lips moved. She couldn't make any noise though.
She loathed herself for so many reasons but Wyatt was the biggest of all her regrets. He came to save her! It pained her heart. He was the only one who cared for her. He came for her. If he was dead, she wouldn't forgive herself forever.
Her mouth and lips dried within seconds, still, she was teary-eyed. The blood was still trickling from the wound exhausting her even more. She was losing energy every minute. She rested her head on the tree trunk behind her. She could say that she would die within minutes if she was not treated immediately. She whimpered once.
With that sound, the fight between the beasts halted for a second. Then again, the two collided more violently as if to end the war soon.
Maybe they wanted to eat her alive!
Diana slightly turned her head towards them. This time, before long, the speedy beast seemed exhausted. It looked in her direction once but escaped at a lightning speed within a fraction of a second.
It ran away leaving her and the giant wolf alone. The fight was over and it was mealtime for the winner!
Diana was too stupified to take her eyes off this wolf. She had already seen how sharp its fangs were. It was a lot larger than the blue-eyed beast's fangs. She couldn't imagine how painful it would be to be torn with those teeth.
As she awaited her death, the wolf also turned towards her! Its ruby red eyes shone brilliantly in the dark. The four of its strong legs started to move towards her. It was wounded, but the walk was still majestic. It lowered its head as it moved forward. Finally, it had brought its head to her level.
It paused before steadily getting even closer.
Diana closed her eyes tightly in fear. The wolf slightly rubbed its nose on her shoulder a few times seemingly sniffing her.
'Checking the quality of your food?', Diana wondered.
The next thing to happen would be for the wolf to kill her... Her time has come!
All her life, she had thought that she will not regret it if she die the next day. She had been living her life the way she wanted. She had been living her life to the fullest. But now, she couldn't die without regrets. She couldn't save him. She couldn't save the one who had always been there for her.
In her last moment, Diana felt defeated!
'Forgive me, Wyatt. I couldn't save you,' she thought. Her eyes shut involuntarily. She could not open her eyes anymore, but still, she could sense the surroundings to some extent.
She heard the ripping sound of some cloth. It didn't take her so much time to guess that it was her dirndl.
But wasn't she with a wolf? What kind of perverted wolf this was to tear her clothes? She tried to lift her fingers and open her eyes but it was all in vain.
The sound of tearing clothes stopped. Immediately, her nostrils identified a sweet scent even in that bizarre situation. An amber-like scent. A warm and perfect fragrance!
Now she could sense a hand lifting her left hand. Someone took her hand in theirs!
'But who is it?', she wasn't sure if it was even possible or not.
'Who else could it be?' It has always been the same person whenever it comes to her rescue. It must be Wyatt. He was safe. He had come to save her too. He had chased all the beasts away!
'But you are a little late Wyatt. It's too late to save me,' she thought. She had no regrets. Now she could die peacefully since Wyatt was alive!
'Rest in peace myself', she continued her thought process. Wyatt tucked her dampened hair covering her face behind her ears. He used his large, warm hand to wipe her face clean. Then he gently picked her up from the ground without hurting her injured hand. She who was already cold and drenched in the rain found him cosy.
He was indeed so warm contrary to the weather around them. She snuggled herself well into his hold, listening to his rhythmic heartbeats. The volume seemed to have reduced with time. She understood that she was losing her senses.
"Wyatt", she mumbled.
"...."
"Wyatt!"
"Mn," Wyatt hummed in an enticing deep voice.
"I like you!" she said as she slid into unconsciousness.
