Chereads / The Scarlet Luna / Chapter 31 - The Pack Of Rogues

Chapter 31 - The Pack Of Rogues

Twelve hours. That's how long it took before I came across my first scent. I had been running- trying to figure out where I was in the meantime. I didn't think this through. I had no clue if I was going in the right direction. I just know I had to put some miles between me and the vampire's den. My legs felt like breaking. I was pushing everything I had and felt like it wasn't enough. A wolf can cover a lot of ground within twelve hours.

'You're going the wrong way,' was all I thought as I sniffed the air. Bingo, wolf! I felt an excited howl rip through my chest. I found something! Anything close to a familiar earth scented wolf was making my heart race. As long as I found my own kind- it didn't matter who they were. They would protect me once I told them I was an important Luna to The Scarlet Nightwalkers. I pray- they're close to my pack. I'm going to get home. I'm going to be okay. I'll tell Brendon about Niall, Lamia, and how they're working together. Niall will be placed under house arrest. My other brothers will be saved. Brendon will call a war on Lamia. I'll also tell Brendon the one advantage we have- our bite.

I heard growls as I picked up on the scents coming closer to me. I felt my heart race. 'Viv, we didn't pick up any scents marking a boarder...' Arwen's worried voice brought anxiety into my heart. Maybe I was too distracted to notice? 'Just don't drop the walls yet. Stay alart,' she told me. I could feel her beside me once more. Our hearts beating as one. I sniffed the air. I wanted to make sure I was safe...

But, when I caught wind of the new stench- they were coming through the heavy brush. Thirty in all it seemed. They circled me in a quick pace. I wanted to cower in fear. ROGUES! I came across rogues! I mentally groaned as the majority were all males. Rogue packs were rare. But to my knowledge they formed like an actual wolf- pack. One you see on the discovery channel. Since they're closer to being ferrals. Rogues- most known for being dishonest- savage- and destructive. They ate their kills. They hunted everything and everyone. The elders lead the way to keep the pace of the pack-  the second half were the strongest, the middle the weakest (ususally females) and the back end were just as strong as the second half.... but their alpha would always be on his own. Always apart from the running nomads. Nowhere was their home. They stayed where the kill was.

Their snickering wolves made me positive they were discussing to eat me. I was- however shaping them up to see how many I could kill myself. Their alpha- was as big as Brendon's wolf form. He came from behind the pack and was obviously saving his strength. He took one look at me before suddenly shifting into his human form.

I blushed as my eyes landed on his muscles. I had to look away in embarassment. The wolves nipped and growled at me- looking at him for permission. They wanted to tear me apart. He was a handsom alpha. His hair matted black- his body muddy but hiding flawless skin.

"Are you Luna Vivienne?" He asked me sharply.

A rogue knows my name? "Nod your head if it's a yes," he told me as he picked mud out from in his hair.

I nodded my head and trembled. I couldn't hold back my fear any longer. "We found her," he announced. "You heard the queen. Eat the luna alive," he growled out to his pack.

I felt my heart flutter. Lamia sent them after me?! I growled as a warning to them but the pack wasn't following my orders. The strongest circled into me while the rest waited on the outskirts. They swipped at my fur as I began to circle and try to find their weak spot. They closed in on me- ready to kill me in one strike together. I'm outnumbered!

A fog rolled in. Thick and white. It was unnatrual. It was distracting the wolves from coming at me. At least most of them. A few were close enough to swipe their paws at me.

"KILL HER!" I heard the alpha howl. It was vicious. Like his time was running thin. An opening to kill me was coming to a close. Thanks to my father's training I was avoiding a few deadly jaws. I felt strained but I wasn't going to give up on my life. I had a son to raise. An alpha to love.

Through the thick fog I could see a figure standing by the alpha. It was like an empty space couldn't be filled there. An invisible man. I narrowed my eyes as I saw it. HIM. He's been here all along. That mere distraction lost my senses. I was attacked at once. I felt the pain with every bite and tear to my wolf fur. They attacked me until I transformed human. I was forced into the cold mist. My eyes landed on someone fighting the invisible man. Another male. The alpha rogue was trying to seperate them and help the invisible male. I focused in on their conversation.

"Edric!" The male shouted. Obviously he was refering to the invisible male. "Call your filthy animals off of that Luna!"

"What's it to you?"

"She doesn't have to die!"

"You crushing on her, brother?"

"I'm crushing on her brother."

"You're mated to a wolf?"

"No, but Marquis is. That's his future sister in law. So! You will be killing family if you order them-"

"I know my orders. The pack is killing her. Not me!"

"Then you are my enemy."

"No, Sowle!"

The invisible guy screamed as the fog cleared and seemed to be going by force into his lungs. But, this was being forced upon him. As the fog disappeared- The invisible guy, Edric seemed to pass out as he faceplanted the ground.

With the fighting happening- I didn't have enough time to realize the wolves around me were backing off. Now that I transformed- I was in a weaker state of mind. I physically couldn't move. But I could feel a soft blanket wrap around me. The rogues whimpered in fear. I glanced up at a well- protected male. His silver hair fell from his cloak. I knew then as I whispered, "Eder?" But he- he's risking it. The sun was still beating through the treeline. Why are the wolves afraid of him? His face was completely covered in a mask. His gloved hands picked me up after covering me in the blanket.

"I'm here," he whispered softly.

"WHY!?" I asked harshly. "Why did you send me into the woods?"

"What are you talking about?"

"The note," I huffed out. I looked around to see Sowle handcuffing Edric.

"I didn't write you a note," he told me.

"How did you know I was out here?"

"I saw a possible future of it. You're a fast runner," he told me as he looked into my eyes. "What note?"

"I recieved a note telling me to run. I thought you wrote it," I whispered. "Andrew gave me the back of clothes-"

"Andrew? He didn't know... The duffle bag was from Lamia. She forbid me from picking out your clothes after the dress-"

"Lamia?" I cried out. I felt stupid. Of course- It must be a way of getting back at me after killing Emmett! I guess my teeth wasn't enough for her.

"Mmm... that was Lamia's pack of rogues," he muttered as he looked at Edric. "And, he's her precious erand boy."

I looked up at Eder and gasped slightly. He- HE is on my side? I bit my bottom lip. I can trust him, right?

"Eder, why are you saving me then? If Lamia wants to kill me?"

He looked down into my eyes before pulling off his mask. He leaned into my face as his eyes landed on my neck. He looked upset as he looked at it. Then I remembered, Brendon's mark.

"I just want to protect you," he told me as he looked into my eyes with a sad expression.

"Will you take me to my pack house?" I asked him softly.

I never saw so much emotion on a vampire's face. His broke apart in a depressed nod. Like he was accepting something instead of agreeing to do as I wished.

"I'm going to try something," I whispered to him. I reached up and moved a piece of hair out of his eyes. Arwen growled in objection. I leaned in close to his face. So close our lips almost touched. All I want is to see if he'll recoil. I don't want a kill. I just have to know... Did he somehow have feelings for me he didn't know how to express?

Living with Lamia for so long must have done a real number on him. I wanted to believe he was lonlier then the servants. He was a locked up king- with no authority.

"I'm not that obvious, am I?" He asked softly. I was about to say something when he crashed his lips against mine. I pulled back as panic rushed through my mind. Oh no! What have I been doing?! Arwen was fueled with anger towards me. I could hear her growling in objection.

"I'm sorry," I blurted out. "I can't," I told him quickly. I promised Brendon.

I didn't want him to kiss me... I think?

"I know, you're his," he muttered. "But, this doesn't change my mind. I will protect you," he told me as his hand landed on my stomach. He then looked slightly alarmed. "I need to get you to your pack's doctor," he alerted me.

"I'll be fine," I assured him. "My wolf will heal-"

"Your baby won't be," he told me.

I felt sick. The split second of being surrounded by woods and comforting shadows were taken away. My body shook against Eder's arms. We shook- as he took a step forward and in the blink of my eyes... A new and familiar enviroment opened up around us. In a spit second. I wanted to hurl. I couldn't comprehend it at first. But, as he let me take it all in- I understood what happened. I've seen him do it before.

We teleported.

I didn't think he could take people with him.

We were back, in my pack's territory. We were standing by the tree lines of the pack house. Eder's grip on me tightened. He ran towards the doors. Some pack omegas were working on the hedges around the front drive when they saw us. They put their tools down and half split. Some ran my way while the rest ran for the door.

"Luna?" A few asked me and looked suspicious of Eder. "We're glad to see you, but who is your friend?" One asked.

"Vivienne needs to see the pack doctor," Eder told them. "She'll loose the baby if not immediately."

They looked scared for me. But a few rushed off.

"I'll take you," a girl offered. "Follow me," she said.

I could feel my body cramping in the stomach. Something wasn't right- now that I was getting feeling back in me. Eder followed the omega but as we entered the doorway- Eder had to dodge a swing to the head.

I could hear Brendon growl as he missed punching Eder and hit the door frame. I could hear his knuckle break. His jealous rage was getting the better of him as he glared down Eder. He was mid shift already- clearly going to tear Eder apart.

"Brendon!" I shouted nervously. "I need the infirmary. This has to wait," I begged. Eder had to side step a few more head swings. He handed me off to a stronger omega.

"Take care of her for me," he told the omega before looking towards Brendon. "Look- You're not going to hit me if I don't want you to," he told him. I saw Brendon leap up and mid-air transform. He went for Eder then like a crazy bear. The omega carried me off to the infimary. I had a slight feeling they'd both be okay.

I was carried down the halls in a rush. As soon as we made it to my mom's wing I was sat down in a waiting room. "Your mother went out for lunch. We've notified her to come as soon as possible," the omega told me in shame. He looked truly worried for me. "In the meantime-" Nena busted through the door with a few assistants following her.

"Vivie?!" Nena asked with worry in her voice. "What happened?" She asked worriedly. She growled at the omega and he ran straight out the door.

"I was attacked by rogues coming home. It's a long story," I tried to explain to her. "The important thing is makng sure my baby is going to survive," I told her. She nodded as she took a deep breath. I doubt there can be much done to help my situation. But- if I loose the baby? Will Brendon still want to be with me?
