After Alpha took my cast off and helped me take a shower, we went to the pack house. This was starting to feel like a ritual for me. Get ready and go there... He still had his work cut out for him and I'm sure he didn't want to leave me alone. When we arrived at the pack house I was surprised to see the amount of people there. It looked about the same size as the party- maybe even larger. "Is there something going on?" I mumbled to him as we walked up to the pack doors.
"Maybe your brothers came back early," Brendon suggested as he too looked clueless about the amount of people here. We walked into the pack house, following a crowd of chatter box teenagers. They lead us into the infirmary hall where most of the people were crowded. Brendon growled in annoyance. Who wouldn't be? HE was alpha and didn't even know what was happening. My father met us in the hall and bowed his head respectfully.
"Calix do you mind explaining what happened?" Brendon growed out.
"Alpha Brendon, my sons have returned..." He trailed off. I raised an eyebrow.
"What happened?" I asked impatiently.
"Innath," he said quickly. "Well they ran into some of Lamia's people on the way back and Innath was the only one able to get away from them. We think Calcifer didn't make it, sweetie." He said and looked upset in his eyes but he held his poker face. "Niall found Innath barely mobile at the boarder. He brought him here just now."
Brendon growled in irritation. "And you were just going to wait for me to get here?" He looked furious. "NEXT TIME CALL ME!" He roared. "Why is everyone here?" He looked around and I blushed as some eyes landed on me.
"You were going to announce my daughter as Luna," My father reminded him quietly under his breath. "Remember? You leaving to go pick her up must have triggered a few phone calls. The whole pack is eager to hear the official announcement from your lips. The rumors are a little outrageous," he muttered. "How could you forget?"
"I'm a busy man," Brendon said before wrapping an arm around my waiste. He looked me in the eyes as I met his. "Do you want to go see Innath?" He asked me softly. I nodded my head a little and he let me go. I followed him into the room they were keeping Innath on monitors. My mother stood over him, checking a few things off on a clipboard. Niall sat in a chair in the corner, holding Nena. Nena was crying into his chest silently. Mal was in here as well, looking down at his cell phone and obviously scrolling through social media. He was like me, never close to the family. My father came in after us and went over to our mother to check on her. She might not be our biological mom but she held a worried expression for Innath.
Brendon shut the door on peering eyes and looked us all over. "So, what has he said so far?" He asked as he gestured to my heavily sedated brother. He was wrapped in bandages and healing some obvious heavy war wounds. They tore him up. It was obvious multiple attackers. The wounds weren't from wolves. They were from knives and long talons. Possibly long finger nails. Vampire bite barks were across his neck. Looks like he's lost some blood, I could see a blood bag hanging from an IV stand.
"What I told you," my father said sharply. "They were attacked coming back home. He said he didn't know if Calcifer was alive but he knows it was people supporting and working for Lamia, a vampire queen."
"Yes, I know who Lamia is," Brendon snapped.
The door opened and Alpha Fang came into the room. He nodded and bowed his respect to Brendon. His eyes landed on mine and gave me a smile. "Luna," he said quietly. "It's good to see you're awake," he said and took my hand- giving it a kiss. "The pack has been waiting for you," he told me quietly. Brendon growled jealously and took a step to get between us.
"Fang, now is not the time to be touching what's mine," he warned through a clenced jaw. Fang rolled his eyes before walking over to my brother- Innath. He reached out and caressed his face. He looked so upset suddenly to see Innath in his condition.
"Brendon, we should begin interrogations," Fang warned as he looked over his shoulder. "Someone in this pack is out to ruin us. This wasn't a mistake. Someone knew Innath and Cal would be coming home to give us a message. We have to snuff this traitor out before it's the downfall of this pack."
"You're right," Brendon sighed out. He looked pained to admit it. "But before I do anything I have something to discuss with Niall," he said and looked towards my brother who was sitting still in the corner. "Do you mind stepping up to become Beta?" He asked.
"No," Niall said a little too quickly. "I-It's not something I desire, Alpha."
"You're a strong leader. I hear nothing but good news from Donovan and your father daily. You should take my offer seriously and show this pack some pride. No one would second guess my desicion, Niall."
"You really mean that?" Niall asked and sounded surprised at Brendon's kind words.
"Of course, plus you're family now. That's a big bonus."
Mal chuckled quietly as he looked up from his phone. I narrowed my eyes at him curiously. "Do you have a problem with it?" I asked Mal.
"No, not at all. Niall's own doubt in himself is just what's funny," Mal said quietly. He tucked his phone away. "My only concern is, who will cover for him, Innath, and Cal? I can't do a three man's job as just one being, father."
"I can still do my boarder duties even as beta," Niall snapped at him. "But looks like you'll be filling in for Cal and Innath for now on until our brother recovers."
Mal shrugged and looked a little annoyed. Of course he would be, he's been told he's got to do over time and now Niall is possibly loosing hours to be beta for the pack.
"So it's decided?" Brendon asked and raised an eyebrow. "You will start training with Mr. Mcconell immediantely." Mcconnell was the beta when Brendon's father was alive.
Niall looked slightly defeated before nodding. "Okay, give me a day to think it over though. I really wanted time with my son and mate..."
"Pack duties will have to come first, boy," my father told him. "You were apart of the pack first before you had them." My father started for the door then. "Mal, enough slacking off, we have to get back to our own duties." Mal groaned but followed my father out of the room. Alpha Fang was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at Innath with an unfased expression.
"Fang, I want you to go with Calix and Malakai," Brendon said suddenly. "They could use a strong guard on the boarder. Nena and Mrs. Romona will be able to take it from here. Niall, you can find Mr. Mcconnell playing bingo in the ball room. That's where he's been spending his retirement."
Brendon grabbed my hand suddenly. "Let's go tell everyone the bigger news," he whispered to me. It's funny... I didn't think about it til now... But mom knows I'm pregnant and hasn't said a word of congratulations. She's been so concerned for Innath. Now, we will be announcing it to the whole pack. There's also the small situation of telling them I'm going to be the beloved luna of this pack. Brendon gave me a small kiss on the lips. A reminder, he cared. I felt a smile dance on my lips as he brought me out of the room. The room, breaking up now as my family followed orders.
"Brendon," I said quickly as we walked out. "We still have to tell everyone that Emmett-" I was cut off as he shushed me.
"Let's keep that between us for now," he suggested. "Someone tried to silence Innath and Cal from delivering that message to me. It'll be best if we keep the upper hand in knowing already," he whispered to me. I nodded in agreement. That was probably for the best.
