Chapter 19 - Why do You Affect Me So Much

Jenifer and Macy went back to their squad. They were still digesting the fact that the First Young Master of Blacks were ditched. And they had just witnessed a blatant dejection with their own bare eyes. When ladies in the town could cut their right arm to be with one of them, there she, a nobody, not only ignored but also insulted one of the most prominent bachelor of the country.

Jenifer said with a huff, "This girl is too much." Other ladies also agreed with her. She was not even polite. She was too full of herself.

Lily's face stiffened while looking at the way of Mantisha. Narrowing her eyes she forcefully suppressed the urge to run an tear down the face of Evelyn then and there.

'A bitch paired with a retard.' As a young lady of a noble family, she just could not blurt out, but in her mind she cursed her a thousand times.

Laura took a small sip from her Cosmopolitan Cocktail. The slight fragrance of freshly squeezed limes filled her mouth while she slowly savoured the taste of carnberry juice inside.

"The faster someone tries to stand out, the faster the fall occurs." Tilting her head to aside, Laura said slowly. But everybody around could sense the malice from her voice.

"I wonder, how fast is she going to fell." She told in a voice so sweet that can shame cuckoos. But her thumb which was tenderly stroking the lemon slice at the edge of the glass, slowly increase the pressure as a drop of tender juice came out.

"How much time is left before the dance starts?" Macy asked while looking at Laura.

"Maybe in half an hour." Jenifer replied while shaking her head.

Macy nodded in response. This was her time to impress Laura. If Laura hold her back, she could easily sign with StarBox Global, the most famous agency in the country. Initially she had thought of exposing that sharp tounged slut with some random man but now, it seemed like Laura also wanted her to be punished. A punishment, which would not be that simple.

Macy made up her mind as she asked Lily and Daisy to get the name of Mantisha's partner today. Then she excused herself from there.

Mantisha had became a little absent minded since the commotion with Albert happened. She was worried if they knew about her identity here or not. She wondered what would happen if her other friends also found out.

All these times, Evelyn aslo stayed silent as she slowly had her pudding.

"I wonder how my date's doing here, without me."

Both of them jolted back at the direction of the voice. A face with a cunning smile appeared in front of them.

'Fuck!' Evelyn cursed under her breath. She had completely forgotten about this partner of hers.

Taking one of her hands in his, he put a light kiss on the top of it. "Missed me, honey?"

'Miss my ass' rolling her eyes Evelyn thought, but gave an enchanting smile to him.

"Of course. How can I not miss such an outstanding man everybody misses."

Msntisha crooked one her eyebrows slightly. 'Why does it feel like she is taunting him.' She thought as her attention drifted from the incident earlier.

"Then, can I ask you to be my guest for a while? Our family's old man has arrived. He is asking for our presence, and we need to go and toast to the adressers too."

'This troublemaker! Why did he mentioned to the old man that I have come with him.' Evelyn gritted her teeth. She took his arms as bid a bye gesture to Mantisha. "Hope to see you again."

"Mmm me too. Take your time." Mantisha thought that she didn't need to meet with these aristocratic ladies again. It's a pity that she seems to be a nice lady. She thought that they would be good friends if given chances.

"Let's go." Evelyn went forward with her partner.

Mantisha sighed at the thought of staying here alone, again.

She thought about going to Herbert and chat witu him once, but remembering Albert's darkened face, she got scared. 'That brat usually stays quiet. Why did he tease me so much today! Forget it. I'm encountering too many strange people lately. I will just consider him as one of them too.'

Mantisha walked towards the balcony of the banquet. It was decorated with lights, beautiful white Lasagana and purple Orchids. She smiled while looking at Adi's arrangements. Danish had never gifted Sylvia any flowers. She wondered if he even knew her mother's preferences. But here, Uncle Adi chose everything according to her mother's taste. Even when it was uncertain that she would come to the balcony or not.

She looked back at the banquet hall and put attention. Rain Lilies, Rasnas, Tulips, all were her mother's likings. "Finally she got someone who genuinely cares about her." She mumbled with a smile.

"Everybody deserves a love that could not be replaced."

Mantisha jumped at surprise by the sudden voice.

A man was standing not so far away, but a open doorframe covered his appearance. He was tall like a tower, had sharp features and a pair of deep hazel eyes. His black suit made him more enchanting.

"Ever." He emphasized.

Mantisha frowned her eyes. She was destined to meet troublemakers today, wasn't it?

"Glad that you know." She replied with a slight annoyance.

Steven simpered a little. "Mmm. Too bad that I knew... Too late."

His voice sounded different, not like a flirt that he usually behaved. As she looked at his face, she found that his expression seemed unusual. To be precise, lonely.

'So he has someone he loved. A love so deep that his longings are imprinted all over his face.' Her eyes softened at the thought of loosing someone he loved. Suddenly she remembered the scene from yesterday's dream. A man crying bitterly, holding her pale, scarred face, telling that he was sorry for not protecting her.

"Now that I have realised, I would fight with the universe ro keep her with me, SAFE." He uttered the last word like a sware.

Her eyes started to become misty, she felt like she was listening that ear piercing cries again. Her breaths became shaky, she felt her legs were giving in. In her mind, the glimpses of the nightmare rushed like a volcano, her head started to spin. She felt like she was in the verge of passing out. She spread her hands to grab the railing.

Steven happened to realise she was not behaving normally. As he turned to her, he saw her falling.

Mantisha grabbed his hands like a drowning person grabbing a straw in the sea. Steven put his hands on her back and pulled her up near his chest.

He could feel her irregular breaths, her cold hands as her fingertips touched his palms. Beads of sweats formed on her head. She looked pathetically pale.

Steven's eyes darkened as the thought of Macy drugging her. But how could that happen, he was extra careful tonight.

His voice became exceptionally low as he asked cautiously,

"You okay? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"

Mantisha was like a frightened rabbit. She was seeking the warmth in his arms, but with the last bit of her rationality, she pulled back and stared straight at his deep hazel eyes as she bit her lips.

'Why do you affect me so much! Why do you seem so familiar? Why I am hallucinating my nightmare with just a few words of yours! Just why?'
