Knock... Knock...
"Young Madam, have you freshened up?"
Mantisha came back to reality after hearing the knocks. She grabbed her hairs as she pulled it in frustration.
'Gosh! My head hurts.' Shoving the brush in her mouth, she thought that it must be the hang over.
"Coming... And please, can you tell the chef to prepare a hang over soup for me?" She chirped from the washroom loudly.
"Of course, Young Miss. I have already instructed them. You just need to hurry to the table for breakfast. Madam Roy is waiting."
"Thank you Mia. You are such a sweetheart." Mantisha started brushing as she continued with mouth full of toothpaste, "You may go now Mia, continue to do your works. I am fine. I will manage everything here. Tell mom to have her breakfast. I am coming as soon as possible."
Mia, her attendant shook her head in frustration. What other important jobs could she have in this early morning. She was here to attend her. But let alone to change the bed sheets and the curtains, she didn't even allow her to step in.
This lady... She was not like any other upper class ladies. Nor did she has a bad temper. She was always respectful towards the servants, and clumsy at her own works. In short, she was so adorable that every servant of this house want to attend her personally. It was her luck that she got chosen. Though Madam Roy had told them not to bother with her. She was like a frightened deer, she'd get scared if everybody gave her too much attentions.
Mia shook her head helplessly. This Young Madam of theirs was really special. She acted so brave from time to time in the past few months that they really thought of her as the future Madam of this household, yet she was so cowardly sometimes that they had the urge to run to her and protect her with all their might. Such a unique personality trait she had.
In the washroom, Mantisha pulled her hairs until her scalp went numb. She told herself again and again the pain is for consuming that much alcohol, not for the nightmares she had.
Lately, she was suffering by severe nightmares. Sometimes she found herself on run, in the dark dense forest. Sometimes she found herself limping on stony mountain roads, with her body full of scars. Sometimes she was witnessing an accident, sometime someone was committing suicide in front of her eyes. Neither did she watch their faces or surroundings clearly, nor she can save them.
She even witnessed her own death. In a misty atmosphere, she had found herself covered in blood, with her body full of scars. There were broken crutches, she was in a hospital gown. She laid there motionlessly, with her face paled, and lips purpled. And this dream saddened her the most.
She did not know why, but her heart throbbed with pain whenever she had this dream. Every time she gotten awake in this stage, as her eyes watered.
This was started when she was going to graduate from her college. Basically, by the voices of the screams she heard, she thought it might be her mother. She was so scared back then. She really insisted her parents to divorce to get rid of this suspected misfortune. She was scared that if it would come true, her father would go through an accident and her mother might commit suicide. She just could not let them continue being unhappy in a broken marriage. An accident could not be avoidable, but a suicide could be. So she decided to stick to her mother all the time. Keeping the financial problems aside, she did not even enroll for a M.Phil in University. Instead she had chosen to work in a library near her mother's cooking class, where she could even read in her spare times.
But nothing had changed in her dreams. And gradually these dreams became a part of her daily routines. At night, when she woke up by the nightmares, she always sat straight, grabbed her books or laptop and continued to study. This way she would not feel tortured anymore.
But from a month ago, just after her mother's marriage with Uncle Adi, a new nightmare appeared. She started witnessing her own death. Every time she witnessed this, her heart seemed to cut in pieces. An overwhelming sadness engulfed her over. She had thought that this could be the side effect of stresses, of what she was going through. She really thought to go for consulting a psychiatrist.
But last night, something else happened. She did not know if it was just an aftermath of alcohol or not, but in her dream, she saw someone crying.
He was crying so hard that her heart shuddered. With those heart-wrenching screams, he cried like thr rain. His face was blurry, for that she could not take a look. But his voice was familiar. Very very familiar. It was like she knew him. Like he was a close friend of her, he belonged from a place that was beyond this worldly life.
That certain someone took her lifeless head to his lap, as his ear piercing screams could be heard. His sobs, his chokes, his weeps, she heard it all. He said that he was sorry, again and again. She had the urge to rush to his arms and say that it was fine. Everything was okay. But she could not move her feet at all. She was like a roaming ghost who could not be seen by anyone.
She still could not see his face as mist covered their whole body.
When she woke up, she had found herself crying. She felt like a stupid, crying over such useless nightmares. But a sudden realisation engulfed her mind .
'That man... That man... Is he really the guy from yesterday?' Mantisha thought as she touched her lips in confusion.
'Out of all people, why I have suddenly seen him! Is it because he had kissed me?'
Suddenly she realised something. Smacking her head hard, she scolded herself.
'Brace yourself up Mantisha. Your dreams are idiotic and you're more of an idiot that you are going to find a meaning behind it. How can a stranger be a part of your dreams. This is just a result of your fantasy loving, overthinking personality. What nonsense are you thinking huhh! At first you thought that he was familiar and kissed him out of the blue. Then you are dreaming of him! What is this bulls**t! You have just accidentally kissed him. He is a stranger. And he will always be one. He is not the man of your dreams. Now polish yourself up and get ready for the upcoming war of today.'
