Someone was screaming her name at 5 am. Aileen groaned and covered her ears with her pillow. Who was going mad at this hour? She thought. But the screaming didn't stop, angry. Aileen screamed in response and sat straight up on the bed. She rubbed her eyes to see a short woman with a buzz cut, giving her a death stare. Oh shit, she's dead. Aileen gulped. The woman walked closer to her, her hands behind her back. "RECRUIT NUMBER 21, OUT OF BED NOW!" she screamed again, and Aileen complied. "HIT THE SHOWER. GO GO GO" the woman said, pointing her finger towards the door. Hurrying, Aileen grabbed her clothes from the chair and a towel and rushed down the hall. She was glad to see that she wasn't the only recruit to be shouted at. A bunch of girls was groaning and yawning inside the enormous bathroom.
Someone had their head rested against a shelf and was sleeping soundly, whilst standing. She smirked and quickly occupied the shower, which was in the middle. A blonde hair girl was about to go in, but she shrugged and mumbled something about having more time to sleep. Aileen placed her clothes and the towel on the shelf and pressed the button for hot water. When the water hit her body, Aileen screamed and stepped away from the water. A knock came from the door. "Everything okay?" SHIT, Aileen thought, shivering naked. "Yes." She replied. Did they expect them to shower with cold water? But she had to shower. Her hair was oily and dirty from the climb on the hill. Building up courage, Aileen placed her right foot towards the shower and winced, and then the left foot. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, she submerged herself under the ice-cold water.
By the time Aileen got down to the dining hall, she was shivering like all other girls. She noticed the boy sitting close to each other, but the higher-ups were just scanning the room for any oddity. Taking a tray, she got in the queue and waited for her turn. The dining hall was rectangular and stretched a long way with four long tables placed neatly 2 feet apart from each other. It was a well-built place, but the only downside was that it was all wood. A middle-aged man gave her part of the food; a hamburger, porridge, juice, and 2 boiled eggs. I guess they will sweat this out of us. Aileen thought as she made her way towards the third table on the left.
She noticed Christian waving his arms in the air. He had saved her a seat. Realizing he was the only other person she knows here, Aileen sat beside her new friend. "Morning, how d'you sleep?" he asked, all excited and energized. "Like a baby." Aileen lied. She hoped no one spreads about what happened last night with her mother. She hoped Henry had the guards kept their mouths shut. "I miss my bed back at home." Aileen noticed he was the only recruit who wasn't shivering. "aren't you cold?" Aileen asked cutting up her egg in pieces. Christian shook his head, his mouthful of hamburger. "My father was spiriter, so he knew everything regarding the recruiters." Aileen nodded and scanned the room. There were probably 200 recruiters in the room. All aging from 20 to 30 years.
Her eyes landed on Roy, who was smiling and talking with another guy. Aileen fixed her eyes on him. Was he telling everyone about last night? Should I tell him to keep his mouth shut? What did he think of me? Before she could take away her eyes, she realized he was staring right at her. Shit, she thought and was about to look down when he pointed his finger at her and then beckoned her towards himself.
