For some odd reason, she retains the memories of her past life, and that's what makes her so special, even though she is special enough already when it comes to her origin of birth.
Lune Lumiere, the princess of the kingdom, was born after the rulers have been childless for years, which earns a huge celebration throughout the country. She has a twin brother named Sol Lumiere, older by a few minutes and he is supposed to be the crown prince once he comes of age. Lune remembers how she resented her daily life in the past, but now that she is born different, she feels like something is amiss.
"Your highness, let's check on your diapers!"
"Princess Lune, you're so cute when holding the bottle!"
"The princess can start doing flips, she must be a genius!"
'Who makes a fuss over what a baby can do?' Frustrated that she can't talk yet due to her lack of teeth and short tongue, Lune has to wait until she is old enough to make full sentences. It seems they take care of her together with her brother Sol, so she often pokes his cheek when he is sleeping just to annoy him, though luckily he is a quiet one. The twins are often surrounded by maids and nannies, so it's weird to see her supposed parents, the king and queen visiting them.
"They have your amber eyes," the queen says while staring at the twins and smiles, a little weakly and coughs a little before covering her mouth with her hand, and the king who seems to be trying to ease her cough pats on her back lightly before commenting, "they have your blonde hair, it's already growing."
"Say love, do you think what the fortune teller said is true? That the empire will end in the hands of a pair of twins?"
"You don't really believe in such nonsense now, do you, my queen?"
'Yes, tell her that fortune tellers can be such a scam!' Lune nods a little before realizing the queen seems to be deep in thought and says, "you believe in magic, but you don't believe in prophecies?"
'Magic?'
"Then can you accept the fact that they might be the twins in the prophecy?" The king frowns when the queen coughs more and he sighs, "you should get more rest."
"I'm alright. What mother would I be if I didn't even visit them in my free time?"
"The royal physician said you must rest at least thre-" the king is shushed from the queen's finger and she pushes him out, "I'll be back in a few, leave me alone with Sol and Lune."
After the door is closed, Lune sees the queen mother comes back to the crib and she tenderly rubs their cheeks, and after a few stroking without saying anything, she suddenly whispers, "I'll be going first my children, don't miss me."
She exits the room and when Lune gets up a little to stare at the door, wondering if there's any hidden meaning in her last sentence.
'Last sentence indeed.'
The maids are crying about how the kind hearted queen just passed in her bed due to sickness one day, and Lune is frowning about how much they cry while Sol is just staring at her, where he seems to be a little frightened from how odd the maids are behaving. When the maids realize the twins are looking at them, one of the older maids comes over and tries to talk to the twins, "it's alright, everything is alright."
'Nothing is alright.'
A drop of tear rolls down from Lune's eye, and soon more droplets are wetting her cheeks. She knows how it feels to lose a close relative, and soon their father will definitely be depressed for at least years before his heart can open up again. 'Will this turn out to be a fairy tale that has a stepmother entering our lives and make us feel miserable?' Nothing seems to be perfect, no matter what kind of life she is leading. Even though the maids are comforting them, Lune fears what the future holds for her.
Still in the state of confusion, the maids received some sort of orders and start dressing black attires for the twins, and after making sure they look presentable, Sol and Lune are carried towards somewhere else where it seems the funeral will be held since there are lots of important looking people standing around talking among themselves, and are silent during the twin's appearance. Lune looked around and spotted her father, the king, staring at the open casket without saying anything, not even a word when someone that looked like a priest commenced the prayers. Even when Lune tries to get his attention by grabbing his beard, he just silently puts away her hand and shakes his head.
And that's the last time Lune Lumiere gets held by her father.
