"Miss Michaels, you must not misunderstand my intention. You can have a brighter future working at Dale Enterprise if you look at it. You are a skilled employee. But it's never been proven because I want to give you a promotion. What you do is beg me to keep your current position instead. So maybe in this way, you can explore your full capability if you work for our partner's company."
"What do you mean by that, President Galvez?" She was still not convinced that she was the best among the skilled employees. If her boss appointed a representative, the executive bosses should be there.
"You have nothing to worry about, Miss Michaels. Even though you will directly report to Dale Enterprise. Still, you remain to have an office here with your team. You don't need to be in the field a lot."
Fraine lowered her gaze to the stack of folders before her as she contemplated.
Seeing that she remained silent, Douglas Galvez took it as an opportunity to convince Fraine.
"If you look at it, you have an advantage on your side as you have timely treatment in Mainland City. You don't need to apply for many days of leave of absence. Besides, Dale Enterprise had already arranged an apartment for you. You don't need to book a hotel room during your stay in Mainland City. What do you say, Miss Michaels?"
Fraine was speechless for a while. President Galvez has an offer that only a stupid person would turn down like her.
However, she had a reason, and it was personal. There were people she didn't want to cross paths with in Mainland City, in which she could not tell her boss about her issues.
At that moment, Fraine was flooded with conflict.
"To tell you the truth, Miss Fraine. There's no one I trusted most but you. Look…. I am not young anymore. As you know, I don't have a wife or children, but I could only count the people who were loyal to me. I don't want to hand the company to my business partners when I know they have a hidden interest."
Suddenly, there was a thud in Fraine's heart. It causes her to be confused about whether to continue being stubborn and turning down the promotion or accept it this time.
She got a more beneficial promotion. However, she must not keep appearing in Mainland City, especially now that Jessa had found her. She doesn't want to see them again.
Recalling what happened last week, it still throbbed in her head. She was unlucky when she encountered Zayn's cousin, who looked exactly like him but a younger version.
She could not believe that she had dined with him in her hotel suite! If one of her colleagues saw that situation, gossip about her being a loose woman would spread more in the company because she always denies that she has no boyfriend.
Fraine reached her forehead and kneaded gently. She hurls a furious sigh. President Galvez, observing Fraine, saw how her expression kept changing. He felt sorry for Fraine, but he was also doing this for her.
"Miss Michaels…"
"Sir…"
"If I am not mistaken, you have a niece in another province. Why don't you adopt her and raise her on how to manage your company?"
President Galvez frowned. He explained, "I might do that. However, I am worried because I could not trust her father, who is a gambler. I already saw the unfortunate fate of the company if I die and that man will think about working in the company. My niece is just in grade school. What better should I do, Fraine? You will be one of my employees who will suffer and lose your job."
Fraine wanted to slap her forehead. Now her boss is creating a lame drama for her to feel guilty so that she won't refuse the offer. Although her boss is right. The company has hundreds of employees and thousands of factory workers feeding many mouths back home.
'Gosh. Is this a soap opera, and I am the pitiful heroine who will suffer?' Fraine frowned, thinking of her pitiful role.
All of a sudden, Fraine felt timid to argue with her boss. Heaving a helpless sigh, Fraine pursed her lips with a bitter smile.
"Sir, I will accept this promotion. However, can I have one request?"
It took a long moment before President Galvez could reply. It worried him if Fraine made a request and he could not grant it. After a while, he nodded his head.
"Alright. Go ahead. I'm all ears."
Given the opportunity, Fraine breathed in and released them slowly.
"Sir, can I be in this position temporarily only until you can find a trusted person to become the permanent representative of both companies?"
President Galvez was flooded with conflicted emotions. Time passed quickly, and the day would come when he would die. He wished for Fraine to secure a position where no one could fire her but Chairman Dale. No matter what happened, Chairman Dale promised he would take care of Fraine.
"But, Miss Fraine? Chairman Dale would not continue the partnership if it were not you…."
"Sir, can't you do something about that? We have countless brilliant managers and directors. Surely Chairman Dale will be impressed by them."
President Galvez felt defeated. He had no other excuses to convince Fraine to accept the position without throwing a fit. She already wanted to resign before she officially took the job.
Anyone would die in happiness being offered such an opportunity. But Fraine always does the opposite.
"Alright. I'll see what I can do." He could not promise nor accept Fraine's condition. Instead, what's on his mind is to talk to Chairman Dale and support his plan of introducing Fraine to his grandson, the heir of Dale Enterprise.
"Thank you, sir, then if there is nothing else. I'll go back to my table to study these documents."
"Ah. The people from Dale Enterprise will arrive later. They will be part of your team."
Fraine was stunned for a moment. "Sir?"
"I booked a restaurant in Sasha Hotel to welcome them with an exclusive dinner party with the executives. You will come with me, Miss Michaels, and meet them before the press conference on Friday."
"Is it a formal dinner, sir?"
"Yes. So it's alright if you get off work early to have time to prepare."
Fraine formed her lips with a small smile. Her boss gives her endless consideration because she is useful to him.
'Could it be that Director Dale is the one who is coming for a visit, and President Galvez wants me to dress up nicely? Indeed, my boss is selling me!'
