"Addie!"
"ADDIE!"
"Addie!"
I heard them calling my name repeatedly and each time it felt like someone was stabbing me through the heart. The sorrow in their voices, the pain that they were feeling, all of it was like knives straight through my chest.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, knowing that they couldn't hear my apology.
"You have nothing to be sorry for, Addie. You're very lucky, you know? You get to live the rest of your life with me now." Mr. Boberre's voice was right next to my head when he spoke.
"I don't think that makes me very lucky." I grumbled, unable to stop myself.
"Well, I don't think you get a fucking choice, girl. And I also think that you're eighteen fucking years old now, and that means that you are an adult by human standards. You need to stop being just a child and learn to accept the way things are now. Grow the fuck up, Addie, because your life changes as of today."
