Chapter 63 - I Wielded My Weapon For Blood

< Missed me, host? >

'I did system.'

Today was the last day of Aiden's holidays but when he was eating his lunch, the system suddenly turned on. All of his skills were working again but Aiden didn't need that anyway.

Since he currently knew all the skills by himself. But seeing the upgrade feature being unlocked again, Aiden couldn't help but smile.

'Hey system, what should I call you from now on?'

< What do you mean host. I am the system so shouldn't you just call me that? >

'I talked to the real system.'

Hearing his reply, the voice that called itself a system, suddenly shut up. Aiden on the other hand looked through his skills again.

One thing he found out was that most of his skills no longer had the level-up column. He had asked the system about it and according to it, the more powerful his skills were, the less he could upgrade them.

So he could only upgrade his new skills using skill points.

< Just call me the system for now host. The one who was here in my absences is the real system linked with your soul. I am just the in-between since it's too much of a basic system that doesn't explain things properly. >

'Whatever you say system.'

Aiden then unlocked the movement speed he had unlocked previously. For some reason, he had been waiting for the system to be active again before unlocking the skill.

Now he had 27 skill points left as he looked at the skill points required to max out the skill.

[ The Way Of The Shadows ( 0 / 20 )

--- ]

'Those are some skill points.' Aiden thought with a sigh as he decided to max the skill out. He had no idea how it worked but he saw changes in the skill's description after he had maxed it out.

[ The Way Of The Shadows (Maxed skill)

- The supreme movement technique of those who are blessed by the god of shadows.

- Gives +20 agility stat ]

'Any passive stats are good I guess.' Aiden thought with a shrug as he started wondering how the technique would work.

After eating his lunch, he used the bracelet to call for someone to take him to the arena. But instead of a shadow user or his mother, Aiden saw someone else.

"Father?" Aiden asked in a confused tone as he saw Drake appearing in his room.

The demon king had a calm expression on his face as he looked at Aiden and nodded.

"I heard from your mother that you wanted to learn how to be a ranker. So, have you found out why you want to wield your weapon?" Drake asked as Aiden shook his head.

He had thought about it for hours but he didn't have a reason that seemed valid. He could have just said that he wanted it for power but that didn't feel right to him.

"I too didn't know why wielded my weapon and I didn't find out about it till I was 18. But when I did find it out, I wanted to revert back. I wanted to forget about it but in the end, that wasn't possible." Drake said while staring directly into Aiden's eyes. "So when you do find your purpose, make sure that it's something you truly like."

"What was yours?" Aiden couldn't help but ask as Drake smiled.

"I wielded my weapon for blood. For all the blood that was spilled because of political schemes. For all the blood that was spilled because of stupidity. And for all the blood spilled because of meaningless wars. Or that was what I thought." Drake chuckled even though his eyes didn't contain a trace of humor. "In the end, I was spilling blood for the same reason."

The father and son then stared at each other for a few moments before Drake sighed.

"Never mind. You are too young to understand the meaning behind those words. After you grow up a little, I will show you what I meant." Drake then raised his hand in Aiden's direction. "For now, let's just take you to the arena."

"You are here just to take me to the arena?" Aiden asked in a baffled tone as Drake nodded

"Exactly my thoughts. Imagine the demon king being asked to go take his child to the arena. The things your mother makes me do are sometimes stupid. Well, they are stupid most of the time." He then glanced at Aiden. "Don't tell your mother I said that."

"Don't worry father, I won't," Aiden said with a smile as Drake raised one of his eyebrows.

'Damn I always wanted to do that.' Aiden thought silently as he remembered the many hours he had put in trying to raise one of his eyebrows while being on Earth.

Though he had always failed and had instead ended up making really stupid faces. And he could bet that many people also made stupid faces while trying it.

"Why are you calling me father? That sounds too formal." Drake asked. "You could just call me dad if you want."

"Whatever you say, dad." Aiden's tone suddenly changed as Drake nodded in agreement.

"Now, let's go."

A black-light surrounded the two figures as they vanished from Aiden's room and appeared in the arena of Sephiroth.

"Then are you gonna watch me train?" Aiden asked his dad as Drake nodded. Even though Aiden was cool about his dad watching him train, it still made him a little nervous.

Aiden then decided to use his movement skill for the first time and thought about its name. Suddenly, he felt shadows settling on his spine.

He didn't know what to do next so Aiden just thought about moving forward. And he appeared there instantly.

And the biggest thing was that he did it without any shadows being below him. This meant that he hadn't moved using Shadow walk.

< The movement technique is similar to shadow walk host but it doesn't rely on you knowing the location or shadows or even needing shadows for that matter. It's like those lightning and air movement techniques in anime or novels. It's just modified for shadows. >

"Aiden, I have a suggestion." Drake suddenly spoke up as he moved forward. "I think I saw your mother using that skill once. I don't know what it is called but I can tell you that's it's a very terrifying skill if you master it."

"But I haven't known this for long enough."

"That's is why I said that I have a suggestion," Drake said as he suddenly summoned ten earth figures. "Instead of thinking about dodging, think about going closer. You have to go closer and hit your opponent. Or you can think about attacking from far away while managing to not get hit."

Aiden didn't say anything and took Drake's words into his mind. His father then started controlling the figures as five of them suddenly held bows in their hands while three of them held shields.

The last two stood still and were barehanded.

"You have to only hit each of them once and they will die then. However, if you get hit, their attacks will cause you damage." Drake explained before his eyes suddenly turned serious. "Remember, I won't stop them from attacking unless I think that you are in too critical of a condition."

His father's words made Aiden more alert of his surroundings. He took a deep breath and nodded in Drake's direction.

"Then the match starts now."
