Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Duel Part 1

Swords have been used since the days of old, the people with the strongest abilities were seen as superior to everyone else.

It was a beautiful day; a day that should be filled with fun. However, Christopher was staring at Grey with a puzzled expression on his face. Grey never looked at himself in the mirror, he felt there was no need to, and because of this he did not see his eyes. So when Christopher made a statement about his eyes he figured something must be wrong. Knowing this, Grey rushed to a watering hole a couple of meters away from the tree.

Arriving at the watering hole Grey realized why the people of the village had been staring at him. His eyes were brighter than before; the glow from them could only be described as radiating. Grey sat and just stared at his reflection, trying to figure out the reason for such a sudden change. Realizing he had no way of figuring out this change by himself, he went back over to Christopher to see if he had any ideas. Christopher, still looking at Grey strangely, said "I believe you should ask your mom about this, my knowledge is lacking in this regard." Grey, accepting that his mentor was not going to be much help, proceeded to pursue his original goal, to destroy Christopher in a sparring match.

Grey had never won against Christopher in a match before, but today felt different. The strange dream of Nova was still on his mind, he could not let go of her. Wanting to get away from his fixation, Grey began to beg Christopher to spar. Eventually, Christopher caved in but said in a sarcastic tone, "You better not explode while I give you a pummeling, sparkle eyes." Grey feeling aggravated over his current situation only gave a brief nod.

The two men walked away from the tree to a relatively flat part of the land. Once there Christopher asked, "Are we doing the usual rules?" Grey nodded, he was used to sparring with Christopher. The men sparred with real weapons, no armor, and there were no limitations in how they could attack. The way the sparring seasons ended was through admitting defeat or if a person was severely wounded. These wounds would include missing arms, legs, or a severe cut. While painful, the men would be fully healed in around a month.

Because of these harsh circumstances they rarely sparred, however, when they did it turned into a spectacle. The sparring season was taken as seriously as a real battle. Grey, knowing that the battle was going to be difficult, took a deep breath steadying his nerves. Christopher, on the other hand, seemed to be as calm as ever. He was not worried, Grey had rarely ever injured him, and when he did Grey barely scratched him. Knowing all of this Grey could only stare at Christopher awaiting for him to announce the start of the match. Christopher seeing Grey was ready, took a deep breath a bellowed "BEGIN.".
