Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: Calm Before the Storm

Ruo Yin woke up with Zhan Luo gone from her side. She was about to enter the tub to take a bath when Zhan Luo entered.

"Don't look!" Ruo Yin said embarrassed. Even though there was a room separator which prevented Zhan Luo from seeing anything more than the top of her head.

"Hey, calm down. I have seen nothing... yet," Zhan Luo teased.

"And... you won't!" Ruo Yin exclaimed.

"It looks like you rested. Fine, I will wait in the waterfall then," Zhan Luo said.

"Wait, why the waterfall?" Ruo Yin asked.

"Don't you remember? You were the one who told me you wanted to train in the morning with me. I train by the waterfall," Zhan Luo said.

"Oh..." Ruo Yin said.

"Were you expecting something else?" Zhan Luo teased again.

"No..." Ruo Yin said.

"Then, I will be waiting, my dear wife," Zhan Luo said emphasizing the last three words.

Did Zhan Luo know she is You Xie's daughter? Would he mind if she is the Demon Lord's daughter? And the most important question is, will she lose control of herself again like she did five thousand years ago and hurt Zhan Luo again?

A lot of questions invaded Ruo Yin as she bathed and dressed. She then grabbed her sword and went to the waterfall where Zhan Luo was waiting for her.

"You are here," Zhan Luo said sitting on one of the rocks waiting for her.

Ruo Yin nodded.

"Hey, um... before training can I ask you something?" Ruo Yin asked playing with one of her feet with the rocks, not daring to look at Zhan Luo.

"It's just a what-if!" Ruo Yin clarified, "what if I'm You Xie's biological daughter, will you still want to be married to me?"

Zhan Luo then acted as if he was thinking. As seconds passed, Ruo Yin was about to take that secret to her grave, when Zhan Luo asked, "Will that fact make you less you?"

"Uh?" Ruo Yin looked at him confused.

Zhan Luo then stood up from the rock and went to hug Ruo Yin, "What I meant was that it doesn't matter whose daughter you are. You are you. And if you don't remember, you stabbed me when we first met. The stabbing makes a worse first impression than being someone's daughter," He smiled.

"Can't we forget about the stabbing? It won't happen again," Ruo Yin pouted.

"Fine, all stabbing will be forgotten if you stop worrying about silly things, my dear wife," Zhan Luo said, "Or are you trying to skip the sparring practice?"

"In your dreams!" Ruo Yin said as she freed herself from Zhan Luo.

They began sparring, Zhan Luo correcting Ruo Yin each time he saw her leaving a way to visible spot for her enemy to attack her.

"Learn to play it defensively."

"The enemy could have killed you here."

"Still too brash."

"Dead, again."

Zhan Luo was merciless in training Ruo Yin. After a few hours, Ruo Yin felt her whole body sore. After sparring with her, he had ordered her to train her balance by jumping the slippery rocks near the waterfall.

"You know I'm going to fall like last time right?" Ruo Yin reminded him.

"Don't worry about it," Zhan Luo answered her.

Ruo Yin did not understand what Zhan Luo had meant until she almost slip on one of the rocks and he used his powers so she did not hit her head. He still let her fall though, he just eased the impact.

"Sheesh, you really use your powers in the most stupid ways," Ruo Yin muttered.

Zhan Luo then raised one of his eyebrows and asked her, "The next time I will let you receive the full impact of the fall then."

"You are petty!" Ruo Yin said out loud so Zhan Luo could hear her, even if he had just heard what she murmured without difficulty.

Zhan Luo shrugged.

"You..." Ruo Yin pouted, "I'm tired already."

"You were the one asking to train with me."

"Yeah, but you are resting while I'm the one training!" Ruo Yin said as she stood up and tried to dry her clothes.

"Not my fault you were born so many thousand years later, and that you fight so rash," Zhan Luo said.

Ruo Yin ignored his comment.

Zhan Luo then stood up and dried Ruo Yin's clothes with magic. Since the Demon Clan members had the red mark around their neck that prevented them from using excessively their magic, they normally did things like the mortals.

"Don't think that I will thank you," Ruo Yin said as she walked back to their house.

"Hm...What did I do to make my wife mad again?" Zhan Luo teased her.

Just before Ruo Yin could answer someone arrived.

"Hey, since no one was noticing my presence, I just barged in," Si Ming said nonchalantly.

"You have too much leisure time to be the one in charge of the mortals' fate," Zhan Luo said unhumorously.

"Hey, that's not the way to treat your friend who helped you get your wife back!"

"By the way, Ruo Yin, did you know that our mighty War Deity here was basically crying because you ran away?" Si Ming smirked.

Ruo Yin then turned around to look at Zhan Luo who was staring daggers at Si Ming.

"I wasn't crying or nearly crying, I just had a few restless nights," Zhan Luo confessed in the moment's spur.

Ruo Yin's eyes were round of amusement. "So even the mighty War Deity could get restless and worry about some," She thought.

"Hey, Si Ming, I would like to know the details," Ruo Yin said intending to annoy Zhan Luo.

"I... I don't think that's a good idea," Si Ming said a bit nervously and signaling Ruo Yin to see Zhan Luo's face that was screaming murder.

Ruo Yin did not care, and so she ignored Zhan Luo's angry face and said, "Come on, annoying friend, I will prepare my red bean pastries and tea so you can tell me all the things I couldn't see while I was in the Demon Clan. Especially my husband's flustered face."

Zhan Luo then laughed, "Yeah, go with her, Si Ming. After all, you are her pastries' number one fan."

Si Ming eye-signaled Zhan Luo to save him. The War Deity instead just kissed his wife's forehead and told her to go back first.

As Si Ming walked back with Ruo Yin, he started thinking if these two were a match made from heaven, or a match made to torture him.
