Chapter 19 - TO CONTEMPLATE IF THE MORTALS WERE LAZY?

As the date between the wedding of her son and their riding away to the land of Saunders had come down to being just a week away, Queen Delilah could not help with her anxieties being intense anymore than ever.

Not being able to share it with her husband either, she felt lonely and trapped.

She watched her young son amongst the royal children, bantering around from the window of her chambers.

He was still a boy who was being imposed on the duty of a man. And how was he going to cope up with it?

The thought of it was eating her away. After all, she was just a mother, and the dilemma of being a Queen to her people at the same time made her struggle with what was right and wrong.

Damien broke inside her chambers through the open door from the other side.

"Mama! What are you looking at ?"

He asked her, coming close to her. She had not realized that he had come up to her due to her constant thinking away.

She tilted her head from looking outside the window to inside, seeing her son standing in front of her.

"Son...I was, to be honest, watching you before you got here."

Delilah replied, petting her son's head. He nodded at her.

"What were those boys telling you though?"

She inquired. And instantly, he looked down at the carpeted floor. It made Delilah come to know right away that they must have again bullied her son.

"Were they being mean to you again?"

She implored. She had known about him being looked down upon by the palace kids for being soft and gentle, unlike the others.

He was also slow in growth. It made him look weak to the others who were of the same age as him but were growing way too fast.

Often times, Delilah had tried to control the situation although she never tried to use her Queen's authority to exhibit fear by using her power. But being gentle to those boys who were naturally bullies did not seem to suffice either.

"Not that I give any heads to their words, they just made fun of that in a week, I shall become the slave of the vampire princess and that even though I will be her husband, she would be the one wearing the pants in our relationship."

Damien elaborated it to his mother. There was no use hiding about it. She knew that he got bullied by those kids.

And even though she had asked him to keep away from them. He tried but there was no one else, he could go out to play with being a Prince, and there were many restrictions imposed on him.

"You know that it is not the truth right?

Princess Ambrosia is very understanding and gentle. "

The Queen tried to make it light for her son. Now that escaping from this arrangement was a no-go zone.

"There is no reason to be dreading about.

Look at us...your father and myself, we learned to grow with each other. Our marriage was also arranged too. "

Delilah smiled. It was true that their marriage was also arranged but they fell for each other, which was a different case.

"But you and father grew in love. For one thing, that I know of is sure that Princess Ambrosia wants nothing to do with me at all..."

Damien said and it made the Queen taken aback by her son's words. Did Princess Ambrosia confess to him about that?

She did remember requesting the Princess to go gentle on her immature son. He was so much younger than what her age was to be in the present time.

"Who told you that?"

"Does it matter, mother?

I'm to marry the Princess and that is final. And honestly, I'm not bothered as to who would and who would not wear the pants in this marriage...I just want to coexist with the princess...that is all that matters. "

Prince Damien concluded. And the Queen could not be more proud to hear her son talk like that.

He could be looking small and immature but he was very understanding and mature at times.

She petted her son's head lovingly, smiling.

"I know that you shall become a great King one day!"

"Or maybe Princess Ambrosia could do both of that just fine in my place?"

Saying that the Prince excused himself from her chambers before she could ask him what did he mean by that?

Regardless, it was no doubt that the Prince knew and accepted of his shortcomings when it came to comparing them with his new-to-be bride.

Not to lie, he also felt inferior to her. She was a warrior, an immortal, fearless, brave vampiress...not a human either.

When he was just a prince. He had no other real talents. Neither he was excellent in the war skills nor good at learning them smoothly.

It was hard to be a prince. Sometimes he felt the burden to be too heavy and if he had a sibling, he would surely have abdicated his title to his sibling.

He had no interest in being a monarch. He had no interest in exposing his power or ruling with authority over the kingdom.

He just wanted to live a simple and peaceful life. He loved reading, admiring nature, and knowing about new things each day.

He knew that he was different from all the other palace boys of his age who wanted nothing but to become warriors one day.

While he wanted nothing to do with it. Being a warrior meant going to war or getting involved in any kind of violence to protect the people and he disliked violence or any traces of it, to begin with.

Could it be that he was just a lazy bee who was confined to his privileges?

Or maybe what the Princess described him as could be true?

That the mortals wanted it all to be easily accessible, always wanting to avoid the hard work to get it.
