Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Gumshoe & Gumdrop!

"Quick briefing."

"An officer called it in, didn't have your number, reported that he's trapped inside with screeching beasts and there's no power, low ammo and hiding. Figured this was an Oath problem." Police chief Svoboda briefed with quick words that didn't go an inch past Kacey.

Alyi's sleuth placed his head on his shoulder and closed his eyes for a solid minute after the briefing was over. He heard the screeching, suckling that fueled his disdain for these creatures from one of the monsters he was about to face inside, heard plenty of regulated breathing, felt an overwhelming abundance of movement happening inside the building, and heard the monsters communicating through sign language.

"A nest made from an occupied building this time?" Kacey noted in his head "They're getting ballsy and worse with each nest. Three humans alive, one victim dead, a nest of, at least, twenty more uncaring pests to exterminate today." Kacey finished noting before he began walking in with no further questions but two goals, one he regards as primary and the other secondary in his eyes.

Kacey walked inside the building staying light on his feet, inching his way through the darkened alley and a few bloodless bodies lying where their life was sucked out, only his Nightvision between him and walking in truly blind, in the lobby was a flight of two stairs that he encountered, up left or right.

"Need help, pardner?" Livia Burr asked as she emerged from thin air unexpectedly, "No." Kacey answered clearly with his unamused dull tone, she interrupted his focus for a slight moment.

"What exactly are we facing here?" Livia asked as she was lost "I wouldn't mind a quick briefing." She finished as she unsheathed her sword.

"Need silence." Kacey replied before he focused on enhancing and tuning his senses to get a better lay of the land and thoughts for a better plan.

"Huh, usually that jump scares people the first time that I do it to them." Livia commented with a whisper "I feel like I'm gonna have to use my gut and guess on everything, Quiet Lion." Alyi's covert champion finished replying.

"Quiet lion…?" He asked with a whisper before he decided to walk off to the left side corridors after hearing the human and panicky breathing coming from that side.

Alyi's sleuth made his way upstairs and down its corridor, passed office after office, inching closer to the panicked and terrified breathing he's hearing until he smells the scent of human blood behind him compelling him to look then running towards him his gaze is set on two of the crazed & thirsty vampiric goblins.

Kacey performed a push kick to the one on the right then dodged a lunging attack from the other that was lagging behind on the left and proceeded to perform a brutal suplex on it before stomping its head into the floor maximum force with astonishing form.

"Slightly stronger than the average ape." Kacey noted in his thoughts as this was the first time seeing its type in person "I've got to find the civilians then cleanse the complex before the night falls." Alyi's sleuth reminded himself before continuing down the halls then up the stairs to the third floor where the breathing was leading him.

He entered the darkened office space and found the three employees that survived the creature's takeover hiding away in a dark closet, he has no clue where the officer were, he couldn't hear his breathing or any peep out of him anymore, he couldn't smell a trace of him either.

"Do you guys have any cuts, scrapes or bleeding at all?" Kacey asked the survivors, they all shook their heads, one held her mouth closed, one was shaking and quivering, the other wanted to cry. Kacey noted their answers in his head before signaling them to follow him and whispered "closely." As they listened.

Before they left, he engaged in a stance and made sure he would be the civilian's shield from the bloodthirsty beasts approaching rapidly down the corridors outside the office they stood in, except, they weren't coming for them he realized after he tuned in his hearing. He assumed it was a swarm performing a routine check up.

Kacey and the three tiptoed and footed their way lightly down the hall, this thin corridor and down the stairs to another hall and corridor on the second floor only to encounter a swarm of six from behind, one of the civilians alerted Kacey as he was listening in.

The swarm immediately went on the attack thirsty and vicious, Kacey flipped over the three, to fend off the swarm that surrounded him, Livia showed up at the perfect time, Kacey didn't agree with the weapon she had in her hand but he commanded her to evacuate survivors out and in the safe hands of the officers lined up outside ready to chip in case he needs it.

The Vampiric goblin-like creatures were ticked off, cursing him out with sign language as they couldn't land a simple scratch on the human outmaneuvering them with his superior agility and out powering them with his superior strength, Kacey ripped out the fangs of three before the remaining three retreated to the swarm

With her Yatagan in her arms, she swung it towards the seven Vampiric goblin-like monsters they encountered on the way down and saved the clumsiest civilian's life multiple times as they fled.

She sliced one of the monster's head off, sliced another's legs off, sliced a bigger one's throat, shot a fifth one in the head with the officer's had rescued earlier when she went right's gun but they healed and came back at her more ferociously after the fact. Forcing her to retreat to Kacey's side, she was amazed he was fighting without a weapon and was confident to fight with minimal protective armor.

"I really wouldn't mind you filling me in, Quiet Lion!" Livia yelled as Kacey bounced from Vampiric Goblin-like monster to monster, she watched for the split second she could get away, her partner ripped one of their fangs out of its mouth after pinning it to a wall.

"Remove at least two fangs, they crumble into ashes!" Kacey informed his Gen-Oath co-worker "It's the only way they die without electricity." Livia Burr didn't smile or react like she was disgusted, she turned invisible then beheaded the monsters and kicked their heads away from their bodies.

"Smart." Kacey felt like he had to comment "Unable to dodge what they aren't able to see and unable to protect their fangs without a body attached." He finished observing while finishing another.

Kacey and Livia wrapped up the remaining on that floor then fought their way up through the higher stories of the taken over and darkened building for forty minutes, even having to find a few who'd hidden away after watching their ruthless but beaten kin be exterminated.

After the fight, Kacey vanished on Livia while she was speaking to the police chief, she was forced to travel somewhere close and higher to find him in the crowd, she saw him walking away like their team up meant nothing but she had further questions for him about the monsters they had faced off.

"What were those things?" Livia asked while he was advancing but casually, it wasn't hard for her to catch up to him "I call them Vampiric yorgs." Kacey replied with a dull tone again.

"Why's that so adorable and cute to me?!" Livia asked rhetorically with a lowered tone "There's a feuding, eternal war according to their cousins, the Eel yorgs, between them. It must be stopped before they hurt anyone in the city." Kacey clued-up his Alyian Co-worker before declaring the end.

"Right, of course!" Livia agreed in a sparky tone "Here with you for the full resolution!" She finished speaking. Kacey grabbed his head feeling a brief headache then began to drop down a knee and saw a target that he's been on the hunt for since his literal and strange emotional manipulation of him about a week ago through the eyes of his charcoal colored hare. The target was facing one direction, he figured watching someone while resting squatting at a great vantage point.

"What's up, what's wrong?!" Livia burr asked when she realized Kacey had unanticipatedly fallen to the floor "An important notification. I need silence for a moment." Kacey answered her when he returned and got up.

Kacey shifted to his hare's senses to pinpoint an exact location instead of traveling to investigate blindly in Seyort. From the hare's ears, he heard muffled voices, from its eyes he saw his target spying across from a building he recognized in its busiest district, from its nose he smelled a nearby restaurant primarily the smell of fried chicken, from its mouth he tasted a carrot he fed him long before he sent it. He's hoping he can at least find a few answers in regards to his theory, allowing him to focus his energy on the Yorg problem threatening the city when he's finished.

"This is where our duo ends, I have an important investigation I need to look into, you should patrol around until a lead of the latest and possibly final Eel yorg hole is located."

"What's your task, though?" Livia asked as he was walking away "Don't worry about it." He answered her with his casual tone as he advanced. Kacey traveled to Seyort and the district in civilian clothing hoping not to be recognized in case his target moved and spies him instead.

"I doubt he'd speak to anybody on this side of town. Questioning anyone is either pointless or risky." Kacey thought to himself, "He's here to spy and watch Anastasius, he doesn't seem to know him personally." Alyi's Sleuth continued onward, "If they are in cahoots, one gathering intel and the other distracting us, throwing us off, to prepare us for something big, it would only take those two combined to take us all down meaning they likely aren't partners." Kacey reckoned as he considered all possibilities.

"It's killing me at this point, so I have to ask!" Livia blurted after she suddenly appeared to Kacey's right again "Were you a soldier, your body looks like it's been through endless wars!" She asked speedily before he gave her a blank and unamused stare.

"I underestimated you. I guess you wanted to be heard back at the Yorg's nest in Alyi, your knack for stealth is impeccable." Kacey complimented her with a genuine tone "I could divulge the stories regarding each and every scar you've seen or you could return back to Alyi to do your job. This doesn't concern you, go back." Kacey ordered her.

"I caught the Brothers up to speed with the gang war, and asked if they could fill in for me." Livia informed Kacey Sarpong with a bit of an attitude "That's taken care of, and you're not getting rid of me that easily so catch me up on what's happening here!" Livia demanded with a more aggressive tone.

"There's a criminal in the city I was made aware of by an informant of mine." Kacey spilled "There. nothing special. Alyi needs you on patrol too." He finished reasoning for her to leave.

"I'm not the greatest investigator or whatever, my scores weren't even top 20 in my old classes, I have unofficially dabbled in spotting all types of lies, though." Said Livia as she circled her secretive Sleuth comrade "It's not a lie." Kacey replied with a tone that gave Livia the idea he wasn't actually lying.

Alyi's Sleuth drew sight from his Eurasian hobby that was soaring high above his target as Livia went on and on about her training then chatter. Realizing the foreign spy was still above his own target, that's when Kacey saw where his vantage point was specifically located.

"Whatever. If it can't be helped, then listen to me now. Stay babbling, act normal, walk with me down these few blocks." Kacey blurted out but whispery as he wrapped his arm around Livia and turned both of them around. Livia understood his tone and nodded her head.

The two of them began walking down the road, turned and twisted, as he recognized the specific apartment complex and made their way, Livia talked to him about how she was going to win Lyle's heart as he shifted in and out, between him acting engaged in conversation, of his bird's eye view to keep track of the target as they walked and talked.

He noticed the spy was gone and nowhere to be found, he had to assume he would be based up in one of the rooms, whether legally or illegally, it didn't matter while he knew the man wasn't up to any good and together the dissimilar Duo searched each apartment on the fifth floor where his quiet hare were able to tail him, knocking on the residents' doors one by one until he answered his door.

Livia saw they were nearing the final few doors to check "Do you want your suit?" Livia asked with a slight smile and turning her armor visible, "I figured that's what was in there." Kacey responded without any bit of pride or expression of smugness. Kacey grabbed the bag she handed to him and began to put his gauntlets back on instead of his entire suit. Livia was confused why.

The Dissimilar Duo knocked on the last few doors, they knocked on the first final door and nobody answered, Kacey decided to take the risk when his pot of frustration that was filled with his struggle to track him down met its boiling point. He guessed right, Kacey immediately attempted a Superman punch the spy tanked through.

The spy threw a spinning back kick that was strong enough to put Kacey down to one knee before the emotional manipulator threw a roundhouse which Kacey was able to catch and punished with an upward elbow to the spy's chin that knocked him off his balance long enough for Kacey to follow up with grabbing his head and slamming it into the closest wall near them then flipping him over his shoulder and finishing with his strongest blow rendering him unconscious.

"Alright, you got him!" Said Livia with a celebratory tone "I imagined a tougher challenge." Kacey replied while asking for the bag with his suit, badge and cuffs.

Kacey asked for ten minutes to change his clothes and cuff him, Livia obliged and left the room, when she returned after knocking with no answers, she entered and he was gone.

"Wakey, Wakey, grasshoppers and locusts." The spy heard from Kacey as he woke up from his Sleuth induced nap after a few hours flew by swiftly. He realized his arms and legs were cuffed and he couldn't break free.

"C'mon, I've only been in this world no more than a year and even I'm aware of how to use that properly." Said Anstasius' spy in a mocking tone and an annoying smile.

"Another world?" Kacey asked as he captured a mental note "…Another world. Tell me more about that and you might get out of this with only that headache you woke up with…" Kacey replied with his arms crossed and his tone as usual.

"…" The Spy refused to say anything further and hinted that towards him with his facial expression "You caught my bluff. Fortunately for me." Kacey replied with a devious smile and a terrifying tone.

The spy tried to manipulate his heart strings, put him in a state of depression, it only caused him a minor headache, he continued to show him that devious smile that only furthered the spy's composure was beginning to decay as he questioned whether or not the guy interrogating him was human or a living being at all. He tried to extract Kacey's feeling of romance, no matter how well hidden, to the surface, he had none that he could tug on. He tried to force him into a calmer state but it seemed like there was no effect.

"Your mind games are like a contest of tug'a'war but your side is made of string." Kacey replied with that same unyielding devious smile to taunt the spy and scare him like the usual thugs he used to interrogate, "We can do this all day if we have to…" Kacey finished while adjusting his right gauntlet. The spy named Wadrigal gulped and felt a feeling unlike any he's felt before.

"Give me five minutes with this piece of garbage!" Livia blurted out with a devious tone and her own degenerate smile to terrify the spy. Kacey didn't get scared but was shocked by her being able to find him, she thought he was jump scared.

"Get out of here!" Kacey screamed out for her sake, it was too late, Wadrigal's eyes and nails glowed black and red as he trapped Livia into a trance of sheer anger and wrath. Livia turned towards Kacey slowly, he kept his eyes toward the Ajitapman and focused on resisting Wadrigal drawing his internal disgust for Livia's slacking boiling to the surface.

Livia swung her invisible blade toward Kacey in an attempt to behead Alyi's Sleuth but he blocked it in the Knick of time, the blade turned visible once more as it clashed into his forearm. He pushkicked her to create some space between them, she almost sliced his leg off but instead her Yatagan's blade slid across his tactical lightweight shin guard. She flew almost off the edge of the construction site from his kick.

She leaped in with a lunging vertical strike aiming for his head, he blocked with both of his gauntlets, tried to counter with a knee but she dodged to the right then swung her lethal Yatagan horizontally holding no rage of hers back against Kacey Sarpong. He really didn't want to hurt her, every swing he wanted to whiff and miss then she vanished and went invisible against him. He could feel her footsteps, hear her breathing and footsteps until he couldn't and was caught off guard allowing her to stab him in his back, she kicked the back of his knee to get him lowered before delivering a knee that would've bled anyone else's nose.

"On my way, Mentor Dain!" Livia yelled out after Wadrigal began to glow orange and demanded she saved him and delivered him to safety. Under his trance, she couldn't resist unlike with her previous trance and grabbed him over her shoulder. She parkoured her way down off the building that was in the middle of construction after grabbing her Yatagan and sheathing it.

Kacey was on the ground, bleeding out with his senses going haywire. He swore he'd never let himself be distracted by any feelings again, then someone close to him, his little brother he left behind named Settembre popped into his thoughts and the thought of him helped the Sleuth get a grip on his blurry sight, smell of death alongside the bitter taste he had in his mouth, unstable touch that he felt, sounds of the city and many conversations that he didn't need to hear to perform the call to his bird soaring the orange skies of Seyort down to fly his bag over to him.

He patched himself up with a device from Alyi's genius with a promise to give him an hour of extra time if he was ever lethally harmed to retreat. He enjoyed the chocolates in wrappers that looked like currency he's enjoyed since childhood as he rested for the prototype device to activate.

"I don't want to hurt that kid, what's her deal?" Kacey said then asked to his bird as it flew next to his side while he sat and thought while recovering his strength "but I need answers out of that bastard." He finished before he gave his special command to soar again and got off the ground.

Kacey looked over some of the city as the sun was setting above it then channeled into his eyes that were soaring the skies and searched everywhere, enhanced his vision and tried to find the violet law enforcer that stuck out, eventually he saw her running full speed with him still over her shoulder through the city streets.

Kacey followed his co-worker who had been mesmerized and parkoured down, he remembered a route that could have him back on their trail as long as she doesn't find a hole for them to hide in before he gets down.

An hour later, the two met Kacey in the middle of a street in the city with pedestrians staring with their phones out, Livia sat Wadrigal on the ground before her facial expression changed and under her helmet the same went to her eyes.

"Get out of here!" Kacey yelled with a demanding voice filled with urgency the civilians felt but it was too late.

"Oh, nope, I'm getting out of this." Wadrigal spoke having most of the civilians that fell under his mental control surround Alyi's sleuth.

Kacey squared up where he stood, feeling Wadrigal tugging on his sense of joy and nostalgia that made him react slower, the civilians he tried to avoid were far too slow.

"The civilians are here to try and irk me or help him manipulate my humanity." Kacey thought while blocking Livia's slashes and leaping over the heads of the civilians he avoided hitting.

"You're a hero, you better not hurt who you're meant to serve, yeah?" Wadrigal taunted as an attempt to find a negative feeling and tug it "You're one of her partners, you better not betray her!" He continued with the same tone.

"That's enough from you." Kacey performed his whistle for his bird to attack while pointing at his adversary, Wadrigal. The bird began to peck Wadrigal's face and bloodied him.

"Leave! my! Mentor! ah-lone!" Alloy Orange eyed Livia shot Kacey's bird with one of her metallic balls with her slingshot, which wasn't part of Kacey's plan in the slightest but it gave him more than enough time to floor her painfully. He called Josue's Gen-Oath hospital in Seyort's primary headquarters. A few of the civilians were still attacking Kacey but he dodged and rolled away from their swings effortlessly before he heard the spy's heartbeat and realized that he was attempting escape by the strongest civilians that were missing; they made it only down the road behind him. He could literally amble and catch up to them.

Elsewhere in the states, Father, daughter, nephew and son gather at the top story of their corporation building that acts as base and cover from spying eyes. The son walked by his Father's pet hyena and Jackal that was the same color as their hair with black highlights. They weren't regular animals. They were both vicious but the son showed no fear towards them, it was their master he had trembled near.

"Father, please trust my word, I give you my word, I had zero intention of exposing you or harming our reputation." Said Dolion with a clear and calm tone as he stood up straight.

"Doesn't matter. Your sister was dumb enough to get herself caught. You could have either of them start turning their eyes towards us by saving her. You know this. You're an absolute idiot. Especially if you were caught, very fortunate for you that you weren't and that I love you." Said his father as he looked down upon his bowing son "What is that we say?" Asked his Father with a devious grin.

"Durants do not blunder, we do not stumble and we do not crumble under any circumstances, Sir!" Dolion answered his Father with utter respect in his tone.

"Hmph." His Father noises as he thought of a punishment "You used the scepter to save your sister then lost it like a roi des cons but you realize how you can make it up to the family and I, don't you?" His Father asked, forcing Dolion's eyes wider out of fear as he knew.

"Sir, are you sure he's honestly ready for the Aadhik trials??" Dolion and Bacia's older cousin asked "He's still a good hearted little boy." Dolion's cousin guys him. Dolion stood up quietly waiting for his father's judgment.

"He's not ready but in our line of business, we have to be prepared to make the worst decisions and keep it moving onward." His Father replied with a stoic tone "Our time is coming up in about a year or two, this'll make him strong enough to play a role or be his end and he enjoys no glory." The Durant Patriarch finished as he held his son's shoulders and fixed his posture. The son saw that his Father wanted him to make him proud and succeed by the smile he gave but felt the gravity of the situation from his eyes. Dolion gave him a nod filled with utter respect before he set out to achieve his newly assigned task in South Asia. He gripped his nunchaku with a tight grip as he walked out.
