Kyla turned up the volume on the satellite radio station. She loved Willie Nelsons' style and delivery, but that wasn't the reason she'd turned it up. The ride back to Glasgow Creek the next morning, was deathly quiet.
Albert kept his eyes religiously on the road, doing his utmost best to avoid a conversation with her.
After accusing her of being a liar the previous evening, Kyla had been momentarily stunned before working her muscles to turn to him fully. Startled by his grim expression, she had asked, "Why would you say that?"
He dragged his gaze to her. "Forget I said anything."
"Albert--"
He eased himself off the ground and stretched out his hand for her. "We should head back. I need to be well-rested for the journey tomorrow."
She'd taken his hand and they moved back to camp together. The issue had not been brought up again since then.
