Chapter 8 - Eight

Time passed and Weiwei still couldn't close her eyes. It was getting late and the sound of nocturnal beasts could be heard. It is coming from outside of the cave.

"Why haven't you slept yet? Don't you believe me? I won't do anything to you," said Xiuwen, who put the dry tree trunk back in the fire.

"If you dare to do something to me, I will definitely kill you."

Xiuwen smiled slightly at that.

"Then why don't you go to sleep soon?"

"I have a lot on my mind. Those thugs is run after to get Axiang." While saying that, Weiwei glanced at Axiang who was fast asleep. The skinny girl's hands seemed to be hugging her knees.

Xiuwen also looked at Axiang and sat beside Weiwei.

"You don't have to think too much about it," he said later.

Weiwei turned to that man and snorted loudly,

"Right, you certainly don't care what happens."

"Your life is too much fun, you're just playing around every day. How can you care about people who lost everything because of these criminals?" Weiwei continued again.

Earlier, Axiang had told how the criminal had killed her family. No one in the village dared to help them. They all left Axiang to bring by the bandits along for fun. Remembering that story and Axiang's tears when she told everything, of course it's made Weiwei furious.

"This is all because of Dark Shadow. He really has acted viciously. I will kill him if I meet him," Weiwei growled with teary eyes and clenched fists. An unstoppable sense of anger welled up inside her as if she was about to burst out.

"You can't just believe it. Things are still uncertain."

Weiwei turned his head quickly and glared at him.

"How can you doubt everything? The black shadow is a villain and he has caused a lot of chaos."

"He is indeed a criminal, but I don't believe he would commit crimes such as harming people and kidnapping girls. During this time he helped many poor people, gave money to them, people thought he was a hero. How could that be...?"

"Maybe it's all just a cover. He's a criminal. It's only natural to commit a crime like this. People are the only ones who have been fooled by him," said Weiwei quickly. Xiuwen was about to argue back, but Weiwei quickly raised her hand so he stop talking. Xiuwen was silent, it was useless to argue with the stubborn girl who sit beside him.

"Miss Wen, please don't leave me!" whined Axiang as she knelt down and hugged Weiwei's legs tightly. The bright morning has come with the sound of birds and cool dew drops from the tops of the leaves.

Weiwei decided to immediately return to the city. The white powder that the criminals used on her turned out to be just an anesthetic. Now she has recovered and wants to come back soon.

"Who wants to leave you? I will only take you to live in the Wind Sword College. I'm not leaving you at all. That place is like a second home to me," Weiwei explained as she helped Axiang to stand up. The simple-looking girl in front of her was still sobbing.

"B-but I just wanted to come with you, Miss."

Weiwei smiled and put his arm around the girl's shoulder.

"Calm down, I told you that place is also my home and I'm not lying. So I'm not leaving you."

Axiang looked heavy-hearted, but then she nodded. The two girls and Xiuwen then go from that forest.

"Why don't you take her to your house and make her your servant?" Xiuwen asked when Axiang go to buy breads for them. They had indeed arrived at the side of the city and it was already noon.

"I already have Xiaoying and my father will be angry if I have more than one servant. My father doesn't want a spoiled daughter."

"You are not spoiled, but stupid," said Xiuwen casually.

"You really... Still want to get into trouble with me?" Weiwei said with annoyed.

"Weren't you the one looking for me to cause trouble?"

Weiwei's hands clenched tightly. Her sharp eyes were fixed on that man. Xiuwen didn't want to budge. He also looked back, but then laughed out loud.

"Look at you, so hot-tempered, it's strange that Axiang is begging to come with you."

"You're the one who made me angry. Knowing this, maybe we shouldn't have to go together."

"You slept leaning on me yesterday and now you don't even want to walk with me?"

"You ...!" Weiwei growled as he then attacked the man. Quickly, Xiuwen dodged. He then pulled Weiwei's right hand that was about to hit him and grabbed that girlin a hug.

"So hot-tempered and careless," Xiuwen said as Weiwei's face was close to her.

"Still hoping to beat me."

Weiwei immediately broke free from that man's embrace and pushed Xiuwen away.

"Never do that again. I'm not a girl you can hug at will!"

Xiuwen smiled as he looked at Weiwei who immediately rushed over. The red color in her cheek was clearly visible. Weiwei noticed her warm face and immediately covered her cheeks with her hands.

Axiang, who had been standing on the sidelines, saw the two of them immediately rushed over. She then handed Xiuwen and Weiwei the bread she had just bought.

"You guys are really a romantic couple," she said with a smile.

"Me with him?" asked Weiwei who turned around quickly then pointed at herself and Xiuwen.

"Don't expect me to be a lover with him. He and I are destined to be enemies!"

"You're too quick to decide. Who knows maybe you'll fall for me?" said Xiuwen.

"What? Fall for you? No. No way. Never!"

"See you later," Xiuwen replied with a wink and immediately walked ahead.

"No, I will never like you!" Weiwei exclaimed. But Xiuwen didn't stop walking. He only glanced over and showed a smile that only made Weiwei even more annoyed.

"Hey, stop, listen to me, I'll never like you, you understand? I. will. never. ever. like. you!" Weiwei vehemently reiterated every last word, but she got even more irritated when Xiuwen only showed an indifferent attitude. The man only paused for a moment to smile again and shook his head.

"You're going to like me very much," he whispered. Feeling defeated, Weiwei finally returned to walking with hard step.

Weiwei ate the rice that was served voraciously and quickly. Axiang looked confused at the girl. Meanwhile, Xiuwen who was sitting in front of Weiwei, only smiled slightly at the girl's behavior.

A few moments later, Weiwei actually coughed with a red face. This actually made Xiuwen laugh out loud, while Axiang immediately helped and gave Weiwei a drink.

Weiwei then rose to her feet with her hands pounding on the table. Some of the visitors in the small shop suddenly turned their heads. Weiwei then pointed at Xiuwen.

"I can't take it anymore. I don't want us to walk together again. We'd better split up here!"
