"You Finally woke up. You were lucky that you're not dead yet."The doctor who was charged on Winter said as he examined her.
"How long have I been out?" Winter asked.
"For sixteen hours. You passed out due to extreme exhaustion and excessive drug usage." The doctor replied.
Lowering her eyes. Winter felt ashamed of herself. She then heard the doctor say.
"You still have a chance. Get treated and start a new life. It's not too late yet." The doctor said before she left the room.
But it's easier said than done. Winter mumbled to herself.
It's not easy when you're this deep into this mess. If she stopped using cocaine then she won't have a way to numb this pain inside of her. If she stays sober then she will end up like her mother. Ended her own life because she couldn't handle life without the drug.
____
The next day Winter was discharged from the hospital after getting another lecture from the doctor to go to the rehabilitation center.
Stopping a taxi. She gave him the address. Inside the car. Winter thought about what happened to her. Somehow she knew that one day she would wake up in a hospital room. But she expected her condition to be much worse than this.
She imagined that she would wake up and find herself attached to tubes and breathing mechanics. But thank God. She came out safe from it.
Reaching the apartment. The first thing Winter did was plug her phone in the charger and the second thing she did was go to the bathroom to take a relaxing bath.
Laying inside the bathtub. Winter tried to remember something from the last five days before she pass out but she couldn't remember anything. Everything was blurred in her mind.
One question was on her mind. Is who took to the hospital?
She hadn't asked anyone because she was ashamed of herself.
One would think that she was feeling guilty and maybe she was thinking about getting help after what happened. But it was the exact opposite. She was yearning to try another fix after going two days without it.
Getting out of the bathroom. Winter stepped inside the room with a towel warped around her body. Opening the drawer next to her bed. She took out She took a small plastic bag. A spoon. Lighter. Tourniquet and a new unused needle and started to prepare for her fix.
