Hearing the knocking on the door. Winter hesitated to open the door but then she decided to open it already knowing who was on the door.
"Winter. My girl, where have you been? I haven't seen you for a week. Are you alright?" Edith asked. Worry is evident in the old woman's voice.
Winter smiled at her and hugged her."I'm fine." She said as she pulled away.
Edith was surprised by Winter's sudden change of behavior. Usually, she would be grumpy when she asks her.
"I'm glad. I was so worried that I thought about calling the police." Edith said as they entered the apartment.
Hearing this. Winter couldn't help but laugh."I promise to not do it again." She said, Patting the old woman's shoulder.
Edith looked around the apartment noticing that Winter still hadn't bought new furniture. Her doubts started to become real.
"Do you want to drink something?" Winter asked, noticing Edith's wandering eyes scanning the apartment.
"Yes. A cup of tea would be nice." She replied as they entered the kitchen.
As she was heating the water for the tea. Winter thought about something and wanted to ask Edith about it.
"Edith. Has anyone come and asked about me in the past few days?" Winter asked as she placed the cup of tea on the table.
"Besides the mailman who brought the monthly bills. No. No one." Edith replied as she was about to reach for sugar containers but Winter stopped her.
"Nope. No sugar for you. You know what your diabetes is like." Winter said and removed the sugar container away.
Edith smiled. It made her happy to see the old Winter. The loving and kind person.
Pouring the tea into a cup. Winter pushed the cup to Edith.
"Tell me. Do you still work in that mall?" Edith asked as she brought the teacup to her lips.
Winter nodded her head as she looked at the time on the watch that was on her wrist."Yes. Better than being jobless." She joked.
Edith looked at Winter with a disapproving look.``You should be working in some big company with the degree you have. It's such a waste to work at such a place when you could be one of the most famous engineers in the country."
Winter didn't reply. She had long decided that she was not going to take engineering as a career.
Edith decided to drop the topic.
She grabbed her phone and turned it on to see If Aiden had called or texted her. She had missed so much. The last time they talked she was rude to him. She only hoped that she didn't push him away.
Winter's heart raced in her chest as waited for nonfiction to appear on her phone screen.
Nervously playing with the ends of her hair. She impatiently waited.
