Chapter 1 - The Full Moon

October 12th 2021, 8:59 PM.

On a dark and cold night, the sound of an engine could be heard, tearing away the silence. In the bright light of the cars ahead, the path on the bumpy highway road was clearly visible.

The car was occupied by a group of four people. The person driving the vehicle appeared to be in his late forties. His short black hair was trimmed on the sides, as was the beard on his neck, and his brown eyes bore a sharp, fierce look in them. The bulging muscles of the man were clearly visible even with a suit on, shaping the clothes he wore.

His name was Luke, he was Lara's father.

Next to him was a lady who seemed to be around the same age. It was difficult to tell her age since her hair was a light brown colour and not long. Her hazel eyes were a bit intimidating as they moved across the pages from left to right.

Her name was Maria, she was Lara's mother.

On the back seat, opposite the girl at the window. An annoyed look could be seen on the face of the young boy as he mashed the keys on his console one by one in an attempt to reverse the tide.

Short spiky black hair, just like his father, and hazel eyes like his mother. He was the youngest of the four, sitting at 16 years of age, and was surprisingly shredded for his age.

Even so, it made sense since he had been trained by his father ever since he was six. This included martial arts training and hunting techniques. They were all familiar to him.

Because of his looks and figure he would often attract females and end up in a fight with jealous guys.

As far as Lara was concerned, he'd never lost. While at first it was good, it also meant he would take most of the blame, so at one point, she threatened to beat him up herself if he didn't change.

His name was Light.

Last but not least, we have the fourth and last person on the car. Lara.

Dark brown hair that is fully black around the edges. Emerald green eyes and smooth pale skin. Although charming in appearance, she was quite the fighter. One to be reckoned with.

Her father's training contributed significantly to her growing body at such a young age. She often attracted attention because she was both attractive and fit.

While silently staring out of the window, she expressed boredom. Her green eyes were glued to the illuminated moon.

The full moon.

Flashes of light passed by the corners of her eyes as the moonlight reflected upon them. Her eyes widened as she looked to the left to make sure she wasn't just imagining it.

Silver-furred wolf with ice blue eyes. Within the trees, it was running just beside the car, hiding itself from view.

Her mind played tricks on her, she thought, so she blinked.

Then it vanished.

It was almost as if it had never existed.

"Lara. Lara?" her mother repeatedly called out to her. "Are you listening?" she asked.

Startled, Lara responded "Wha!" and hit her head against the window. "Ow!" she cried.

When her mother saw this, she let out a sigh and turned over the page on her book. "I just wanted to make sure that everything was alright." she said.

As she stared at the moon, she replied, "Eh? Ah... Okay, yeah, I see. Everything's fine.".

'What was that?' She wondered with a bored look. I guess I must be tired.

"Hey, dad. Are there any wolves out here? There are so many woods around." She asked as she passed a sign.

In the sign, it read: Fork, Washington, and several lines indicated that they were approaching it.

Her dad seemed lost in thought for a moment, he didn't reply and had a serious expression on his face. As if she were curious about what he would say, her mother stared at him.

"Dad?" she called out again.

A cold expression appeared on his face as he replied, "Wolves... I doubt it.".

In response, Lara replied with a simple okay before returning to looking out the window. For most of the trip, her father has been silent and lost in thought, as if everything had brought back bad memories.

She too gave her dad some space after getting the message. Luckily, Light was too engrossed in playing his game to notice.

"Damn it!" he exclaimed.

The game over message appeared on his screen.

"Language."

"Sorry."

Fork Washington, 10:41 PM.

As a result of their travels, the two kids in the back of the car had already fallen asleep.

The car stopped when they reached their house.

Before the dad opened the door, they sat in silence for a few seconds.

He said to the group, "It's time to get up. Let's move our things." with a lighter expression.

He tugged on Light to wake him up, and Light tugged on his sister to wake her up.

After getting out of the car, the family started carrying their luggage over to the house. The sight of it made Lara's eyes sparkle.

A large, two-story stone house. She wasn't expecting anything so lavish, but her mood was lifted as she became tempted to explore inside.

Lara asked, "You're renting out such a large place?".

Luke replied, "We own this house." before heading inside with the bags.

'Huh?'

"Wait, What?!".

She glanced left and then right, and the other houses in the neighborhood were just as luxurious. Lara's surprised mind could only think of one thing at that moment.

'Our family is rich?'

When Light stood by the door, he said, "If you don't hurry, I'll lock you out.". "Everyone's already in."

Yeah... Right... Can't you look any less surprised?" she asked.

"I only care about the WI-FI," he assured her.

Typical Light.

"Of course you do."
