Chapter 2 - The Jog.

*Riiiiing* *Riiiiing*

The quiet, dark room echoed with alarm sounds, causing a certain person to get up.

A satisfied "Mn*" escaped her throat as she stretched her arms and returned her gaze to the phone.

Grabbing the phone, she looked at the time as her eyes widened.

7:41 AM

"S-S-S-Seven, F-Fourty?"

Her eyes flashed as she leapt out of bed, rushing for the toilet.

'I'm late- I'm late- I'm late- I'm late!". She exclaimed to herself, almost falling over.

When she finally reached the door, she turned the knob only to realize that there was someone inside.

"Busy.". The reply came from inside.

As soon as she heard the voice, she recognized it as Light.

"Light, hurry up! It's 7;40! We're late!"

She knew that she couldn't save herself from her brother's long stay in the toilet, knowing for certain the length of time he would last.

She yelled from the outside, "You have 30 seconds to get out before I break in!".

"Let me use the toilet in peace! You have a toilet in your room! And it's Sunday!" he retorted.

---------------

"How noisy." Maria commented as she sipped her coffee.

Her attention was drawn to Luke as he got ready for the day. It was still early and they had just moved. She was worried for him.

As if knowing the answer, her eyes were saddened as she asked, "Are you sure you can't take a break today?".

Before tucking his pistol inside of his pants, Luke made sure the safety lock was on. He covered it with his brown long-sleeved shirt.

In a serious tone, he said, "Next time, I need to set up a few things for work.". However, seeing his wife's sadness, he forced a smile before continuing. "But I'll be back for lunch and dinner."

"Okay... If that's how you see fit..."

When Light chewed his toast, he asked "Where's dad?".

"Where do you think?" Lara asked.

"I didn't ask you."

"Huh? You think because you're a bit taller, you can talk this way with your older sister?!" she asked.

"Older by two years."

"Why you little...!"

Their argument was suddenly interrupted when their mother slammed the mug on the table.

"So, how do you both feel about the house?" Their mother asked.

The inside was just as luxurious as the outside. Five bedrooms, including one guest room on the top floor. A large living room, a kitchen and even a backyard.

If they had such a nice house, why not rent it out or sell it off. It was a waste to not have been using it to profit in some way, or at least that's what Lara thought.

It was also surprisingly tidy which was strange as she had never heard been there. Her parents and brother were always with her and it was just them, so there was no way they could have kept it clean ahead of time.

The only logical explanation was that someone happened to have been maintaining it. Maybe her dad paid for someone? Lara didn't know.

"It's cool. Wi-Fi's fast." Replied Light before taking another bite.

"Yeah, it's great so far"

Their mother took another sip before smiling. "That's good."

"Lara, why don't you go out for a walk? Get to know the town. You too Light, and don't follow your sister."

Lara spent the morning walking around the town as her mother had suggested. She did it so she could become more familiar with it and to better get to know the place where she would now live.

This was the perfect opportunity for her to complete her morning training. After changing into her joggers and hoodie, she headed out.

Though it was still early in the day, she could not help but feel chilled. Fortunately, she warmed up through her jogging.

There was entertainment in great abundance, the roads were not crowded, and fresh air surrounded the town.

In general, it was a peaceful and quiet place.

'Maybe coming here wasn't such a bad ide-'

As someone suddenly passed her, Lara's thoughts were interrupted.

Short Spiky Silver hair and oceanic blue eyes. A perfect, slim jawline accentuated the beauty of his face. Handsome, that was the first word which had come to her mind.

He was dressed in all black, wearing a black hoodie and joggers, totally different from her white one. It covered his physique, but even with that she could tell he was jacked.

Only for a moment did they seem to exchange glances before he blasted past.

She watched as his figure faded into the distance as she continued running.

"Is he going for a jog or a race?" She asked, somewhat annoyed due to her competitive nature. "Still, he reminded me of those two… Another monster.". "Still, he reminded me of those two... Another monster.". As she thought of her brother and father, she felt chills run down her spine.

Even though he was gone, she couldn't help but wonder who he was.

One of the nearby cafes caught her eye and she went inside. The thirst was killing her.

A voice from behind the counter said, "Welcome.".

As Lara turned her head to see who it was, she found that it was another girl of her own age. The girl had short black hair that reached down the back of her neck and deep blue eyes. As she waved at Lara, her face was filled with a welcoming look.

The newcomer, still a little shy, gave an awkward wave back before approaching the counter.

"What could I get you?" The girl asked with a kind smile.

Lara pulled her hoodie down, causing her hair to flow down as she responded, "Water, please.".

The girl nodded before pulling out a water bottle from the fridge and scanning it. "That'll be, 2$." She said.

Afterward, she chugged it down at the counter, paying with contactless.

Watching Lara chug down her drink, the girl at the counter couldn't help but admire her physique.

"You're not from around here, are you?" The girl asked.

"You can tell?" Lara asked with a nervous smile.

"Haha, just a guess." She replied. "My name's Eleanor, what's yours?"

"Lara."

She stayed in the cafe for quite a while, chatting with her new friend Eleanor. She exchanged numbers with her friend after getting to know her a little better.

It turns out Eleanor was also a 12th grader at Fork Washington high school.

"I'm glad I'll have someone to talk to on the first day." Lara said, relieved.

In truth, because of her origins, her social skills weren't all that great.
