Chapter 24 - 24: Something's up (James)

Sunday, December 10th, 7 Years Before The Sacrifice

James wakes up to find that something heavy is on him and it is restricting his movement, he removes the blanket that covers him to find Astrid has sneaked into his bed.

(What exactly am I supposed to do in this situation?) James thinks

James shakes her gently in the hopes that it will wake her up and much to his delight it works.

"Mmmm. What is it?" Astrid asks tiredly

"Why are you in my bed?" James asks

"I had a nightmare," Astrid says tiredly

(It was probably about her parents) James thinks

"I see... Well we should get up, someone has to make breakfast" James says

"Ok," Astrid says

Both Astrid and James get off the bed and walk into the living room to see Asher asleep on the floor.

"Asher get up!" James demands

Asher lies unaffected by James's words. James seeing this decided to wake him up with a jolt of energy.

"Hey Astrid you go in the kitchen and see what we have and I'll be right there. I just need to wake up sleepyhead" James says

Seeing Astrid walk into the kitchen James instantly takes action.

"Light blot," James says quietly

A very small bolt of lightning shoots out of James's hand and hits Asher in his back.

"Ahh!" Asher yell

James starts to laugh which causes Asher to look at him.

"Come on were making breakfast" James manages to say in between laughter

"You are so lucky I'm hungry," Asher says angrily

(Boy don't I know it) James thinks

Sometime later

After their meal James is cleaning the dishes and Asher is looking at some papers.

"What do you got there?" James asks

"Just some quest from the adventures guild," Asher says

"Wait can you take the quest you haven't decided to do yet home with you?" James asks

"Well you can but I don't think you're supposed to," Ashy says

"Greaaat.. what are the quests anyway?" James asks

"Well there's a problem in Darkdwell," Asher says

"You mean the fact that it never stops raining and is super depressing to be there," James says

"No a bandits problem. Apparently, bandits have been stealing all wagons before they can enter the town" Asher says

"Yeah that checks out, What else this there," James asks

"A noble needs protection in Moonbright," Asher says

"Why would they go to Moonbright?" James asks

"Beats me but it's good money," Asher says

(Moonbright has attracted attention from Vampire and lycanthropes and other monsters. Why would a noble of all people go there?) James thinks

"Let's do that one," James says

"No complaints here but what do we do with the girl?" Asher Asks

"We take her with us," James says In a matter-of-fact tone

"Now I do have a complaint, she's a child," Asher says

"We can't just leave her here and I'm pretty sure no one would take her. Beast-kin children are much stronger than human ones, not to mention she knows how to use a bow." James says

(She is probably just a bit weaker than me and I'm an adult) James thinks

"Fine whatever," Asher says
