-Toot-
"Did... did something happen to Meimei, hubby?", the anxious Lu Anqing asked.
Gu Feng wasn't really sure how to explain to his wife about what Assistant Li just told him over the phone.
"Hubby?", she asked again.
Gu Feng finally replied, "Ah... Qingqing, Meimei is okay. She's fine. She's fine."
"Then what happened? Why did Assistant Li send you multiple texts and you even called him as soon as we landed?"
-Sigh-
It's like this...
Gu Feng recounted what Assistant Li told him.
A man visited Yan Rumei right after they left the hospital. That man is currently the Chairman & CEO of Elite Corporation, Duan Heng. He was a classmate of Yan Rumei in cram school back in City H. And that man... just straight up proposed marriage to their daughter.
-Gasp-
"What? Ah, what did Meimei answer to that man? Wait… Is that man even a good person? What about his background, is it true? Elite Corporation, isn't that the one in Country J?", Lu Anqing bombarded Gu Feng with multiple questions.
Growing up in a prominent family when she was young, and also, working as a government employee for many years, Lu Anqing had some knowledge about Elite Corporation. Which is why she still knew about it.
Gu Feng already knew that Duan Heng's background is real because Assistant Li already confirmed it, and even had the information double-checked by the Gu Corporation Information Department.
He was also in City H the year Yan Rumei attended cram school.
But about the fact that he shared dinner twice a week with Yan Rumei still needs further investigation. Also, their daughter herself said she couldn't remember him at all, so their initial and continuous meeting that he said didn't really make any sense.
[Are they planning something that involves our Gu family?]
[Hmph! Even though you are the Duan family, I will not hesitate to go against you if you dare to hurt either Meimei or Qingqing!]
---
"Miss… Are you sure you want to stay in this room from now on? This place is so small.", Assistant Li asked in concern.
"Goodness! Can you stop asking already? This is the 10th time you asked Yan Rumei about this. Do you really want to lose your job or get sent back to City A?" Tan Jiaying reprimanded him once again.
"Tan Jiaying! What are you talking about? Stop giving Miss any weird ideas."
"What? It's true! You should listen and not question if your boss orders you to do something. What's the use of your capability and business acumen if you keep on questioning Rumei's decisions? Even a homeless person would do a better job than you. Hmph! I bet, you've never questioned any of CEO Gu's orders. But because it's Yan Rumei, you would always try to show off and think otherwise."
"What?!", Assistant Li panicked. "Miss, don't listen to this quack doctor. Miss, you are my boss right now and I will do whatever you want. I was just worried about you living in this small space."
"Who's the quack doctor!"
"Okay, okay, stop it Jiaying and Assistant Li.", Yan Rumei broke up the two's bickering.
-Sigh-
"Jiaying, you should control your emotions a little bit. You were hired by Mr… ah… my dad to accompany me from now on, and you accepted it. It's fine right now that it's just us here, but you have to keep your composure when we're in public."
"And you… Assistant Li. Jiaying is right. If you cannot follow my orders and continue to insist on what you think, then you have no place here. You can go back to City A."
The reason why Yan Rumei wanted to move to a regular room was that the police that were assigned by the City Hall here at the hospital will have to withdraw soon.
Even though her parents already left for City A, there are still reporters and paparazzi outside waiting to obtain information about what happened and about her, the stepdaughter who lives in City D. Once the police leave, they will surely charge right in to find her.
To not attract that much attention, she decided to ditch the VIP room and even instructed the hospital to announce that she will be recuperating somewhere else.
As to why she hasn't done that exactly is because she just didn't want to risk her wound opening again.
So right now, only her people and a few nurses and doctors who are arranged by their family knew how she looked like.
She even instructed Bodyguard Bo to wear less conspicuous clothes to wear and guard inside the room instead and not outside.
[Ah… why is it so hard to keep a low profile?]
-Knock knock knock-
All of them looked towards the door.
Bodyguard Bo went to go and open it but after a couple of seconds…
-Baaam-
"Huh?", Yan Rumei, Tan Jiaying, and Assistant Li uttered at the same time.
"Who was it?", asked Tan Jiaying.
"Wrong room.", he replied.
But then…
-Knock knock knock knock knock-
Bodyguard Bo's eye twitched.
The three again looked towards the door and at Bodyguard Bo.
"Ignore it. It's just a lost person.", he added.
-Knock knock knock knock knock-
-Knock knock knock knock knock-
"Bodyguard Bo, just open it and let him in. He's not going to stop.", Yan Rumei shrugged.
She already had an idea when she heard the person outside knock the second time. It was that man who confessed to her two days ago, Duan Heng.
After Tan Jiaying told Duan Heng to slow down his advances on Yan Rumei, he was confused at first.
He said that he has been waiting for a long time. A lot of things prevented him from coming back to meet her. Now that he's finally here, he didn't want to beat around the bush so, if possible, he wants to marry her as soon as possible.
Jiaying then interjected and told him that it's really not possible.
First, Yan Rumei really didn't have any impression of him back in the day, that's why she had forgotten how he even looked like or what kind of interactions they had before.
Second, which sane woman would want to marry someone just like that? Well… Maybe there are some, but Yan Rumei isn't like that.
So, what Tan Jiaying suggested, in the end, was for both of them to get to know and spend time together first. As for marriage, that depends on how Duan Heng will capture her heart.
