Chapter 7 - Enjoy Your Journey

"It's too early for the shops to be opened, professor", the boy sighed, practically hating the moment when he threw away the banana. He thought the place would start stinking if he didn't and the professor wouldn't like to work in a reeking lab. Damn him for thinking good for the girl.

"No, it's not too early. Look out, the sun is already up. You can easily buy them from farmers' market", having said that, she got out of the room the time machine was placed at.

"And they should be 8 to 9 inches long with the width of 2 inches", stepping into the attached room, she glanced back to find a what-in-the-f*cking-hell-now look at Dylan who followed the professor out with the other boy.

"What? I don't like sucking on those small, thin pieces as if they have no life inside", the janitor gaped at Dylan with wide eyes before bringing his gaze to the professor who looked pretty much unaware of what she just said. Perhaps, it was only his needy mind flashing the scene of his girlfriend from last night.

"If you have a numbers problem, you can save it in your phone notes", Scarlett told the boy who was looking at her as if she had grown two heads.

"Also, I need them here before I come back", she carried on walking to the door.

"Google-eyed! Are you up for two assignments?", rushing to open the door with her batch card, she shouted at Dylan whose eyes weren't any less wide than the size of a saucer.

In no time, both of them were running past students, bumping into a few, mutterings sorrys.

"If we don't make it on time, you're doing three tasks this weekend!", dropping the extra one, if it was to be assigned, on the professor, he rounded the corner and sped to the door of the classroom. Huffing and panting, they reached the room. The girl leaned against the wall to catch her breath while Dylan crouched, taking his time to relax his breath too. After a few seconds, when they regained their posture, they stood outside the door. Dylan reached his hand to the door handle and just right he was about to hold it to push the door, it was pulled open from inside.

"Good morning, Doctor Gordon", exchanging we-are-f*cked-up looks with each other, Scarlett quickly greeted the man who was standing at the entrance with a file in his hand.

"Hello, professor", and when the big curve formed on the lips of the man, the duo knew that they had messed it up for real.

"Dylan", Doctor Gordon turned his head from the intelligent girl of his class to the brilliant student, acknowledging his late a*s as well.

"Assignments will be emailed to both of you. Have a good weekend", the man walked past the two nonplussed students.

.....

"Look what your f*cking banana lead us to!", Dylan ranted at the professor who was happily putting the banana on the plate. After taking two more lectures, they were back in the laboratory, Scarlett being on top of the world when she found a hand of large bananas on the table with a note that said "Sorry, professor. I hope this will make up my mistake ;)"

"Happy weekend, Dylan", she chuckled at the boy who was throwing tantrums like three years old. She had no issue with doing an extra assignment, however, for this weekend she aimed to fix all the attention on the time machine.

"I think I'm gonna die alone", the boy had plans to whoop it up in a pub on Friday night in the hopes to find someone to grab his attention. He was never up for one-night stands, considering his current condition, he wouldn't mind having one now.

"You're not the only one being single here", the girl attached her laptop with the console of the time machine. She opened the code files and started reviewing all the modules one after the other.

"You're just 21! I'm growing old", Dylan had an elder brother who was happily married to a girl he loved for two years. They were expecting a new addition to their family. Dylan, on the flip side, was not even in a relationship. All work and no play did make Jack a dull boy but he was not Jack becoming dull but Dylan growing impatient.

"Cool your needy shit down. You are 25. Acting as if turned 18 last night", well, the kids of the twenty-first century didn't care losing their virginity before turning legal.

"Though I'd prefer no age gap when it's my time to date but if we don't find anyone to mingle with, we will date each other. That's all I can do for you", after going through coded lines, the professor proceeded to operate the machine once again.

"Sorry but I'm not bi. So, it's a no-no for me", he huffed, looking away from the girl who was standing next to him.

"Weren't you the one who was ready to be straight as spaghetti for me?", both continued joking around until the countdown was started.

"The system is safe to initiate the launch. The transfer will begin in..."

"Okay, so here's my deal. If this time travel works, I'll find a nice and handsome guy for you myself", Dylan assumed that the girl was only pulling his leg. She couldn't find someone for herself. How would she find one for him?

"I'm dead serious", well, if the boy believed that she was joking, Scarlett, herself was also not sure. She just wanted the machine to work and if the banana was teleported into time, she would search skies and the depths of the earth to find a boy for her friend.

The professor held onto her breath, lips pressed into a thin line when she heard the programmed voice mentioning the digit '1'. The banana started floating in the air inside the capsule, different sparks flashing out behind the glass. The blinding light made their eyes fall shut but their ears picked up the words before the banana disappeared.

"Enjoy your journey."
