Bells chimed in my ear canals. Pain sliced up my back. I bit back a groan and tried to move. Something prevented me from being successful. I opened my eyes to Kane protecting me in his wings. It then came back. He rescued me from the impact of the blast. A blast Scarlet caused. My eyes widened at what Kane had done. He saved me and not Scarlet.
Kane released me out of the clutches of his wings. I searched for Scarlet. She and Deanna laid on the ground. The trees around us were no longer standing. I pushed Kane away and rushed towards them, not remembering anything about the barrier. It knocked me back. I noticed when she put it up. It never concerned me then. I thought it was a good idea to get Deanna in a closed space. What I never expected was that this barrier would be an annoyance in the end.
"Sir!" Kane hurried to my side.
