Alexa's heart raced as she swung open the front door to her house, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of her day at school. However, what greeted her on the other side was a scene that left her utterly shocked and bewildered
There, in the living room, stood her mother locked in a passionate embrace with a man she had never seen before. Alexa's breath caught in her throat, and a horrified gasp escaped her lips as she witnessed the unexpected and intimate display.
As if in slow motion, her mother and the man separated, their expressions shifting from surprise to embarrassment. The room seemed to freeze in time, and Alexa's eyes were wide with disbelief. She couldn't comprehend what she had just witnessed.
"Mom, what's going on?" Alexa finally managed to choke out, her voice quivering with a mix of shock and concern.
Her mother's face turned a shade of red that Alexa had never seen before. She cleared her throat, struggling to find the right words. "Alexa, I... um... this is... well, let me explain."
The man, still a stranger to Alexa, shuffled uncomfortably, adjusting his shirt and avoiding eye contact. He seemed just as taken aback by the sudden intrusion as Alexa was.
Alexa's mother took a deep breath, attempting to compose herself. "Alexa, I should have told you sooner. This is John, a friend of mine. We've been seeing each other for a while."
Alexa's mind reeled, trying to process the information. Her mother had never mentioned anyone named John before. She felt a mix of emotions—confusion, anger, and a sense of betrayal. How could her mother keep something like this a secret from her?
"Seeing each other? Like, romantically?" Alexa's voice trembled, her disbelief evident.
Her mother nodded, her gaze fixed on the floor. "Yes, Alexa. I know this must be a lot to take in, and I'm sorry for not telling you sooner."
I did tell you though at the gala that I met someone,it was him,she said not justifying the matter.
Alexa's shock slowly gave way to a surge of emotions. She felt hurt that her mother had kept such a significant part of her life hidden. The image of her mom making out with a man she barely knew was difficult to erase from her mind.
"Why didn't you tell me, Mom?" Alexa's voice wavered, a mix of hurt and frustration evident in her tone.
Her mother looked up, her eyes filled with regret. "I was afraid it would change things between us, that you might not understand. But I realize now that keeping it a secret was a mistake."
So what about dad, you're just going to forget him like that, Alexa said at the verge of tears.
Mom just because dad's dead doesn't mean you can disrespect him like that, she added tears now streaming from her eyes.
Look Alexa..it's not like that...I really...,her mom started but was cut short as Alexa had already left the house with a slam to the door.
Alexa had been walking for what felt like an eternity, the weight of her thoughts and emotions seemingly dragging her feet along the path. Her mind was a whirlwind of memories, decisions, and uncertainties that had led her to this moment. The air was heavy with the weight of the years she had spent within the walls of her childhood home, and the realization that she could no longer remain there had finally compelled her to step outside.
With no particular destination in mind, she walked on, each step seemingly a tiny attempt to escape the overwhelming sense of confinement she had felt for so long. Her eyes were reddened from tears shed in solitude, her heart heavy with the weight of a life she was finally ready to reevaluate.
As if guided by fate, Alexa found herself at someone's doorstep. It was Ayden's house. The door opened, and Ayden who was still dressed in uniform came out and his eyes widened in surprise at the sight before him. Alexa, disheveled and clearly distressed, stood before him with a vulnerable expression.
"Alexa?" Ayden's voice held a mix of concern and disbelief as he hurriedly gestured for her to come inside.
Without a word, Alexa stepped over the threshold, her gaze downcast. The familiarity of Ayden's presence brought a sense of comfort, even amidst her turmoil. Ayden closed the door behind her, his concern deepening as he took in her appearance.
"Are you okay?" Ayden asked gently, guiding her to a nearby seat.
Alexa's throat felt constricted, emotions welling up as she struggled to find her voice. She took a deep breath, her words finally breaking through in a whisper. "I couldn't stay there anymore."
"Do you want to talk about it?"he asked and she nodded vigorously.
Tears pooled in Alexa's eyes once more as she glanced at Ayden, a mix of vulnerability and relief in her gaze. "I've been living a lie for years, Ayden. I don't even know who I am anymore."
What exactly happened?,he asked her and she tried calming down before telling him her encounter with with mom intimate relationship with another man who wasn't her father.
It shouldn't be a big deal right?,he asked and could feel her tear up more.
you do know your mom is an adult and a grown up,she can take care of herself and make decisions herself,he tried consoling her.
Decisions...are you kidding me right now,Alexa said not understanding what he was talking about.
She..she is in an intimate relationship with someone who isn't my dad,do you know what they means...,she said to him.
He shook his head and she continued"she is practically cheating on my dad",she said.
Ayden internally face slapped himself, how did I fall on love with this clown,he thought with a smile he didn't show.
It's not called cheating when he is no more,it's called moving on,she is able to recover from the loss of her husband and focus on you and her future and maybe she thought sje couldn't fall in love again but she did and she is happy,do you want to take that happiness away from her,he explained and she finally reasoned it and thought he was actually right.
