"So, according to the information I've acquired from our discussion, you guys are siblings, your older brother is gone, you don't know who your parents are, and the only family you guys have are each other," Seth said with a hint of sadness in his voice. "You got information from our conversation? I want to get to know you and you use the very much personal information I tell you against me in an interrogation?!"
Seth's face immediately dropped. He looked regretful and apologetic. I suddenly felt like I was wrong. He is just doing his job. I just did not like the fact that me being open to him, well kind of, was something he took advantage of.
"I'm sorry. I swear I did not ask you those questions like an interrogation. I just wanted to get to know you better." We locked eyes and my heart stopped for a minute. If this happens every time, we meet eyes I might just die of a heart attack.
I sighed and nodded, signaling him to continue. "Do you guys have any friends outside of the pack?"
"No. We usually try and distance ourselves from others to avoid misunderstandings. Any other pack-less wolves we've met have been rabid." Soren answers. Seth nods his head, accepting the lie.
"How is it that you guys can mind-link?" Seth continues
"We are each other's only family and we have no friends. We're naturally going to be as close as a pack, maybe even more." I answer this time. These lies are coming too easily for me. I just know this is going to be a common occurrence.
Seth writes everything we say on a piece of paper he has that is attached to a clipboard. "Do you guys have any fighting skills?"
"Do you think we'd be able to come this far if we didn't?" Soren says as if it was common sense, which it is. Being defenseless with rouges surrounding you is an instant ticket to the afterlife.
"How would you rate your combat skills on a scale of one to ten?" Seth continues, ignoring Soren's comment, and continues writing down what he can. Soren and I look at each other after Seth asks yet another question. We think it over for a moment before responding.
"I'd say a solid seven," Soren says for the both of us. Seth looks over at me and I nod my head in agreement with what Soren said. "On a scale of one to ten how would you rate how knowledgeable you are?"
Well, that is a ten, but we would never say that. It would be suspicious considering we said we are not friends with anyone, and pack-less wolves cannot simply just acquire knowledge. They would have to learn from someone willing to give an unpredictable lone wolf the power of knowledge. That happening is more than unlikely.
"Depends on what the subject is," Soren responds.
"In general." Seth is quick to reply, eager to get the interrogation over with so he can get me out of this cell. Mates would not act accordingly to seeing their other half restrained.
"Um, six? Maybe" I say unsure of myself.
"It's okay if you don't know. Once we get you both enrolled in school you should be fine." Soren nearly banged her head on the bars as her hand gave out from underneath her chin. "School?" she said in disbelief.
"Yes. School." Seth repeated as if Soren was a child. Soren awkwardly chuckled. "Yeah. No. We'll be fine without."
Seth raised his eyebrow. "Yeah. No. You must attend. It's a requirement for you to join this pack." Someone's sassy. Soren glared at me through the bars. 'This is all your fault.'
She sent an accusing glare toward me. 'Why me? I didn't know I'd find my mate!'
'But YOU were the one who wandered off. You are aware that if we get put into the werewolf's school's system, alphas ranking up to the royals will know our faces and who we are. This is the fastest way to get our identities exposed.'
And I... did not think of that. Shit.
'But Soren we've never gotten to experience the high school life.'
'Have you forgotten the time we joined that human high school? The prison?'
'But this time it'll be our kind.'
'It won't we'll still have to hide who we are!'
'I'm sick of living in the confinement of our little pocket dimension. Every day it is the same routine. Don't you want to just take a risk sometimes?'
'Coming here in itself was already a risk. This is more than just a risk. It is not just us we have to worry about if we get exposed. You know this.'
'Why is it fair that we have to always put others above ourselves?!'
'It isn't but we also don't want to kill each other.'
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but you can't use mind-link here. It's a safety precaution." Seth says, interrupting our conversation. "You've already let us get this far into the conversation. Might as well let it continue." Soren snaps back at him. She then returns to our conversation.
'Hey, he's still my mate you know.'
'Oh, I know. He's the reason we're here!'
"Listen. We will end the interrogation here for the day. We will get you both enrolled and we will test your combat skills later in the week. You guys take some time to think about this." Seth walks towards my cell and puts his hand through the bars, resting them on my face. I leaned into his hand as I felt sparks course through my body. I love this feeling. I close my eyes and treasure the moment.
Seth was yet again looking at me with adoration. I turned away as I could not hold his gaze of overwhelming emotion, hoping he did not see the blush that spread across my face. I saw him smirk in the corner of my eyes before he left the dungeon. My face felt cold without his touch.
"So, what are we going to do now?" Soren asks. "You're asking me?" I was shocked. This entire time she has been undermining me. I never thought she would give me the reins. "Yeah. You said you did not want us to hover so here I am not hovering. You are a big girl. You can make your own decisions. I will no longer be that voice of reason in the back of your head. So, from now on I'll go with whatever you do and won't say a thing."
"Really? Like for real?" I say with excitement. "I'm already regretting this." Soren groans.
-----
A little later Seth comes back into the cell giving us an update.
"So tomorrow we will evaluate your fighting skills and after that, we'll begin your training. We will be doing this until we can get you guys fully processed into the system." Soren says absolutely nothing, so I just nod.
Seth and I share a look until he leaves again.
"What are we going to do about the training?" Soren asks
"We'll have to limit ourselves."
"They'll be able to tell."
"Not like they can force us to use our full potential."
Soren goes silent again. Just by this I know she sees a flaw in my plan but refuses to say anything. It is scary making all the decisions, but I will get there.
