Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 - Family Reunion

---Midnight---

Watching the monitor with Saeko and Rei, the undead were out in force tonight. Without guidance from Umbrella the zombies were wandering aimlessly through the city going towards anything that made a noise louder than the wind.

"Things are getting worse.", Rei said looking at the monitor, "This is the largest group we have seen in this area yet."

"What's more they aren't acting as a group, they are acting randomly on instinct.", Saeko stated, "Adding the additional barriers was a wise decision on Merna's part."

"Agreed, they are all fifteen feet from us which is good. If they were any closer the kids would be anxious.", I replied watching two Tanks stumble down the street.

Bringing us some tea, Astrid wriggled next to Saya who was out like a light. Seeing the horde for herself, Astrid didn't appear to be concerned about it. Confident in her combat ability, she felt satisfied she could win with our assistance if the need arose. Sipping on the tea for a few minutes, I got a call on my satellite phone from my buddy in England.

"Good Evening Victor.", George chuckled, "How are things going in Japan, or have you and your father cleared out?"

"It's 12am here you prick.", I jabbed with a smirk, "As for the situation here, it's very shitty man...the dead are everywhere and Umbrella is causing all sorts of havoc here."

"Understandable.", he admitted, "Things aren't going well here I am afraid. Umbrella shutdown all supply runs to England, and thousands of those things poured out of the Chunnel. We are slowly regaining ground to blow the bloody Chunnel up, but we can only do so much. I was hoping you had better news."

"Not really, my father vanished when this shit started and I am currently camped out with wonderful company.", I stated getting approving smiles from my lovers.

"Still the outrageous Lady Killer I remember.", he teased.

"Says the man known as the Panty Thief King.", I remarked.

"A badge of honor that I wear gladly. It has done wonders for me since this messy thing started. I happen to be in the company of very lovely ladies as well.", he told me.

"If you are calling to brag, I don't need to hear it man.", I sighed.

"No, that isn't the reason for my call.", he said, "You are aware that Umbrella is behind this, do you have any more information than that?"

"George, I trust you because you are one of my few good male friends...", I stated, "Umbrella is looking for modified humans that escaped from their lab. I got information from one of the goons I interrogated. The modified humans look normal, but when enraged are far stronger than any human could be and have a very high regeneration factor."

"Super Soldiers...this is bloody wonderful news...", he sarcastically groaned, "Anything else?"

"They are using drones to kite the hordes.", I informed him, "Destroying the drones causes them to scatter like cockroaches."

"That will be useful in fighting them back.", he thanked me.

"Anything you can share?", I questioned.

"Unless your coming around here to share a pint, I am afraid not.", he chuckled.

"I will have to take you up on that offer when I can.", I laughed.

"Aye, I will buy you all the beer you stomach down at Sally's.", he snickered.

"Oh no, I am spoken for and so are you. Going to Sally's isn't going to be good anymore. We are going to have to go to a proper pub.", I retorted.

"Oh no, Sally's is under new management and you can get the best spot in the house.", he bragged.

"How did you manage that?", I questioned.

"The old man kicked the bucket when the undead showed up. Had a bloody heart attack right there behind the bar. He turned within a few minutes, and one of the patrons killed him by bashing him over the head with that piss water beer you American's call Budweiser.", he jabbed, "His daughter took over, and she happens to be in me bed right now."

"Dude...you aren't-"

"Aye, I am.", he chuckled.

"I am hanging up now...we have boundaries man.", I sighed hanging up.

Looking at me, I told them it was my buddy George from England. The cheeky bastard liked to get into trouble, and also liked quality time with the ladies. When I was there he took me to Sally's, and I got to see modern English bar maidens serving beer and other things. Needless to say he bought me a lap dance as a 'Cultural Exchange' as apparently they danced differently than in the US. For all the bragging he did...the girl sucked at lap dances. It must have been all the beer he had that made him think it was good.

"I try giving you one, if you want.", Saeko giggled.

"Nah, I am happy with the way each of you are. I really don't see the need for a lap dance when I can just take you in the next room to make love.", I retorted with a smirk.

"I might have to take you up on that offer.", she replied.

---Next Day---

Taking care of the the few zombies left outside the base, I sent three groups out to look for family and friends while I stayed at base. Keeping watch from the roof, I was casually going over my stats to see how I was doing now.

---------------------------------------------------------

My stats had jumped quite a bit thanks to physical exertion killing all those undead, and from using points to further increase them even more. Honestly I was confident enough now that I could kill the Tyrant without Spartan Rage, but it was a nice skill to have as a backup.

"It is!", Midna giggled appeared standing on my stomach, "The cargo ship with the Tyrant has landed in Tokyo Harbor."

"Welp, I will wait and see if they call in for assistance.", I told her, "Got any suggestions for skills or items?"

"I suggest buy something with a bit more punch, and doesn't require ammo.", she said plopping down, "I suggest Ebony and Ivory, from the Devil May Cry series."

"I don't have Demonic Energy to power it though.", I replied.

"Jeez, don't worry about that that. It's included in the package for the guns.", she sighed with a smirk, "You like to over think things."

Pulling up my Skill Shop, I went into the new item area and saw several items for purchase. Outside of the pistols she suggested, I saw Gut's armor, Cloud's Buster Sword, a Type-1 Energy sword from Halo, and several other items.

"I thought you said these were attached to skills?", I asked.

"They are, all of those are attached to skills you have unlocked and own. You don't have to have the skill set of the person who used them, just the skill the use the weapons themselves.", she told me.

"Captain America's shield in here?", I inquired looking through the sheet.

"Right here.", she said pulling it up, "It's 1,500 points, but it's a big asset to have with you."

"Agreed, I will get it and keep it in storage for now. Before I buy it...it doesn't have limited uses, right?", I questioned.

"Nope, all of those items have unlimited use...assuming your don't break them of course.", she giggled, "I mean you are stronger than Captain America after all."

Buying the shield, I brought it out for a moment to see it before stowing it away. The shield would be a wonderful addition to my defense as I could reflect the kinetic energy of gunshots, tank rounds, and probably missiles. I mean Cap did tank a blow from Thor's hammer, and that had to be at least as powerful as a missile.

Buying the two pistols as well, I put the replicas I made in storage and holstered the actual ones on my hip. Picking the Heat Vision skill as well, I experimented with it as it was nice to have in low light situations. Thankfully I could turn the skill off and on in my system so I wouldn't constantly be seeing in thermal.

"How's it going?", Nao asked me poking her head out.

"Quiet for now, how are you doing?", I replied, "Feeling better?"

"Yes, I wanted to say thank you again for taking us in.", she told me.

"You all have given 110% in helping around here, it's a blessing to have you all here.", I said with a smile.

A few moments of awkward silence passed before she spoke up.

"Would you maybe consider freeing the people in the High School?", she pleaded, "I worked with many of the staff for years, and some of the students there are-"

"You realize going there is a risky move for a low reward. I am not trying to be mean, but there is nothing there worth risking lives for. We have a lot of lives we need to protect here. If we go there, there is no guarantee they are still alive or mentally stable.", I said sitting up, 'Not to mention most of them are dead now. I watched a herd race there so I don't think they were being very quiet.'

"Please...they need help.", she told me, "They will be treated like trophies if we don't save them. If we don't, no one will."

"Nao...", I sighed looking at her, "Is someone there you love or something?"

"I worked with many of those people since I graduated college.", she said.

"I will look into it.", I replied with a sigh.

Accepting that, she went back downstairs while I watched for issues. When the groups returned I took my group out to survey the school.

---Former High School---

Surveying the school from a building a block away, it appeared that their attempts at reinforcing the school for security failed or someone let them in. There was only a handful of people left in the school, and the place was swarming with undead.

"Those freaking morons did a terrible job.", Saya said.

"Looks like one of bulky mutants that attacked us the other day blew a hole in their wall.", Mikoto stated, "I see four of them roaming the parking lot."

"I think we can take them!", Sayo said cracking her knuckles.

"Haha, let's scope the area out a bit more. I want to get a rough estimate of the undead group still here.", I remarked.

Reconning the surroundings, the women felt confident we could take them. Knowing there were more undead inside, I agreed as this would get me plenty of points.

"By the way...where did you get that shield?", Yoko asked looking at Cap's Shield.

"Found it in my old man's office.", I lied using the Poker Face skill.

"Looks cool.", Rei admitted, "Is it heavy?"

"Not really, I don't know what it's made out of.", I said lying again, "It's pretty light actually."

Letting her hold it, Rei was surprised how light it was for it's size. Handing it back to me, we headed to the school to get in.

---School Entrance---

Picking off the mutants with my rifle, Astrid and company crushed the remaining undead in short order. Surprisingly Sayo and Astrid appeared to be having a competition between themselves over who could kill the most. Watching the points roll in, I smirked thinking of the skills I would be upgrading this evening.

Once the schoolyard was clear, we made our way inside and picked off the dead as we went. As we we were crossing the bridge between the buildings, we saw what ultimately happened to the majority of the survivors here. Seeing two tanks stumbling around below us, it looked like they took down the maintenance building in the back and crushed the survivors to death. Looking away, Saya was uncomfortable with seeing former classmates mangled up in the debris. While she may have disliked them, she wouldn't wish them that kind of ending.

Ending up at the biology lab, we found several staff members and students locked in the room together. Waving to them through the window, the staff lit up when they saw Kyoko. Opening the door several of the interns held her tightly. Looking at the Vice Principal, I asked how they managed to get away.

"Those blasted idiots kept causing a racket because they felt they were safe. Two days ago those bulky things came barreling out of nowhere with a small horde of mutants. When the fighting broke out we ran here while the majority of people ran too-"

"The Maintenance Building is collapsed.", Kyoko informed them.

"They deserved it!!", two freshmen cried, "They made us do whatever they said, or they threw us to the undead!!"

"Is this your group?", the three interns asked Kyoko.

"Victor is our leader, we are just a scouting party.", Kyoko told them.

"Please take us with you!", the group of twelve pleaded.

"You can thank Nao for pestering me into doing this.", I replied motioning them to follow us.

Retracing our steps, I took out the Tanks...Assassin's Creed style with a strike from above. Leading our group to the entrance we came through, I covered the group as they ran out of the gate and back to the Humvee. Having some people ride on the roof, I drove us back to base making sure not to bring any unwanted visitors with us.

---Base---

"Miss Nao!!", the three interns shouted running over to hug their close acquaintance.

Making sure none of them were bitten or scratched, I sent them in to get checked up by the medical staff. After parking the vehicle I was going to head back in when my phone rang. Looking at who it was, I felt myself get a little angry.

"Hello.", I said answering the call.

"I am glad to see you are okay Victor.", my father replied, "How are you doing?"

"Cut to the chase old man, you left me to die like everyone else in the city.", I growled.

"Son, I knew you would be fine given all the training you endured.", he sighed, "I saw the footage from the school, you fought very bravely to protect your multiple girlfriends."

"So you are with Umbrella...", I stated in a cold tone.

"I am.", he answered.

"You and I have nothing to discuss. Umbrella is responsible for this shit, and you're just as guilty.", I told him, "What would mom have thought if she were alive to see what you have done?"

"You don't understand son.", he responded.

"I understand that you don't give a rats ass about the lives you taken, and about your own son. You abandoned me as a child to further your own career, and then abandoned me again when the world comes to an end. In the end I bet I have only been a useful pawn in your eyes, just like mother was.", I snickered.

"Don't you dare talk about her like that!", he snapped.

"The next time I see you I will personally put a bullet in your skull, old man. Don't ever call me again, and don't bother tracking my phone.", I said hanging up.

---Undisclosed Location---

Hearing the threat from his son, the once proud Delta Force soldier felt remorseful for leaving his son alone. The deal he struck with Umbrella didn't allow for him to come, so he left him in as best a place as he could for his own safety. He knew his son wouldn't die easily, he had seen the records his son broke and how ruthless he was in combat. A part of him felt like he had let his son become some sort of monster, all because he could raise him alone.

'I am a terrible father.', he thought looking at the family picture he kept in his wallet, 'I couldn't save my wife, and I lost my son burying myself in work.'

"Commander, is everything okay?", an Umbrella Scientist asked walking over to him.

"Yes...I just called to speak with my son.", he admitted knowing they were listening to his call.

"I hope you didn't leak anything.", she reminded him.

"Nothing classified, just that I work for Umbrella.", he assured her, "He is aware of Umbrella's involvement, and has sworn to kill me next we meet."

"I see, you truly are a terrible father.", she spat, "Elizabeth chose a terrible man to marry."

"Still as bitter as ever Jessica.", he sighed.

"Yes, she was my best friend here at Umbrella.", she remarked, "You used that silver tongue of yours to trick her, and she ended up dying from the after effects of birthing your son."

"Enough, what is it you want?", he questioned.

"I need your authorization to release the Mark I Tyrant Proto-type.", she hissed.

"Did we located where the missing asset went?", he inquired.

"Unfortunately the microchip stopped responding. Black Label either disabled it, or a bullet damaged it.", she answered.

"Hmm...", he thought, "My son spent time around one of the Black Label members...Mikoto was her name. Any chance my son could have disabled the chip?"

"It is possible, but your son would have to be a genius among geniuses to disable it. He'd have to disable the bomb, and remove many components in a specific order.", she said looking at the schematics for the chip, "Black Label surgeons are much more likely to have figured out the layout. They have had ample time to study the unit. The either disabled it or she is running amuck in the city somewhere."

"Fair enough.", he conceded, "It's still a possibility though, right?"

"...yes, he'd have better luck at the lottery and get struck by lightning though.", she groaned, "Do I have your authorization or not?"

"Yes, dispatch the Tyrant to the Shelter in Tokyo. If my son isn't involved, they likely ran there to their allies.", he answered.

"Understood.", she replied leaving him alone to look at his family picture again.
