Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The fallen

Then, I slipped and fell.

I fell just a few feet before I caught the cliff. It gave me more wounds on my hands, and most likely shattered every bone in my hands, but it's a small price to pay for salvatio- uhm... Not dying.

I climbed up onto the cliff and lay down. After just a few moments I passed out from exhaustion.

When I came to, it was dusk. I looked around me. I was in an area surrounded by rocks. That explains why I hadn't been found. I could see the walls of a city, so I headed towards it.

As I got close a guard told me to halt and asked me for my name.

"Perseus Sarenac." I replied. I couldn't risk giving my real name after my escape.

"Alright, you may enter."

"What happened that's making security so tight?" I asked. A question like this should throw off any suspicion of me.

"Ah, you see, a dangerous man escaped Blorenicas prison a few hours ago. It's believed that he was saved by the gods after throwing himself off the cliff, as there was no corpse, not even a drop of blood. They're calling him the Phantom of Athens. His real name was Sorenacles. Anyway, you better be going, it's getting dark. Don't want Sorenacles to jump you, and relieve you of your life."

And so, I moved on. 'dangerous man'. I doubt it. I couldn't kill a damn child. 'Phantom of Athens'. It has a nice ring to it. All I wanted was a simple life as a soldier, and now I'm considered a dangerous fugitive.

I was walking down a road when I noticed a blacksmith working. I was always fascinated by blacksmiths, so I stood by and watched. Suddenly, he said,

"So you're him."

'him'? Was he mistaking me for someone else?

"You must've mistaken me for someone else." I replied. The blacksmith had a raspy voice, it was as if it was scraping the inside of my ears. He had a long beard and long hair, both blackened with soot. His face was dirty, it was like it had been smeared in the remains of a fire. He was quite short, and dare I say it, plump, but also very muscular.

"Pro' was always a cheeky bastard." He said, grinning.

"Pro'?"

"Prometheus. The bugger stole fire from my forge to give to you humans, but I have to admit, he's one hell of a sulptor."

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Name's Hephaestus, but my friends call me Hephie."
