My legs collapsed beneath me. There was an overwhelming feeling of dread and helplessness as I fell. Damn, I'm so useless. Is this finally it? Am I going to die? As I fell, I felt something grab hold of me. In my declining vision I could barely make out a slender, human-like figure. I tried to speak but no words came out. I then lost consciousness.
I jerked awake and looked around me. I was on the forest floor. I was surrounded by wooden poles, reaching to about the height of my shoulders. Why is it that whenever I lose consciousness I wake up elsewhere?
"It took you long enough to wake up." said a voice behind me. They had a flat tone, and I could tell from their voice it was a woman. I looked down and noticed my wound had been covered in a dressing made from leaves and tied on with ivy and plant fibres. I turned around to look at her. She was almost the same height as me. She was fairly slim, and wore a tunic that reached her knees. She wore a wooden mask, that was fairly plain but depicted a wolf in its facial features, and wore on her neck a piece of quartz in the shape of a crescent moon on a length of ivy. She had a bow slung over her shoulder, a quiver at her waist, and a stag by her side.
"It's not safe to stay in one place for long when you're wanted dead as much as you are. Let's go." she said, then turned around and started walking. I hesitated for a few seconds, then followed.
"Hey, who are you anyway?" If I'm to travel with someone, I should at least know who they are, so I asked. She stopped, turned around, and said,
"That's not important. Come on, not much further until we reach a town. We can stock up on supplies then continue. It's important we find allies, and I have an idea on someone we can trust."
"What do you mean allies?", I replied, confused.
"Did you really think you could do this alone? Now hurry up, we don't have long, the news of your appearance and activities will soon reach there, and that's not what we want.", she said, then turned around to continue walking. Do what alone? Does she know about my quest? Was she chosen by a god like I was?
"Wait!", I called. "If we're going to be travelling together, you could at least tell me what to call you!".
She replied, "Just call me the Moon Huntress."
To be continued.
And now, I have some explaining to do. It's been about 1 and a half months since I last released a chapter, and here's why: I didn't have a PC, and I was doing this on my phone. The day after I published the last chapter, my phone started having issues (on the left side of the screen, it thought there was constant tapping and swiping slightly down, so any inputs were overridden). Because of that, I've been stuck using my old phone, but I couldn't make this using that phone, so, I just didn't. Because of that I pretty much forgot about this. A couple weeks ago I got my PC, and for about a week I've been thinking about how I could continue this, and today I finally got the motivation to do so. I apologise for the wait, but I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and have enjoyed reading this as much as I've enjoyed writing it. Thank you for reading, let me know if you have any suggestions or have anything you want to say. I will do my best to publish weekly from now on.
Until next time,
