Chereads / Cordis Tempus / Chapter 9 - Chapter 2

Chapter 9 - Chapter 2

"Ally Rose and Analise Storm, can you please come up to the front? You have a phone call" A voice announced over the intercom.

Ally looked up from the needle she was inserting into a patient's arms, as Analise came around the corner.

"Alright Lue, just keep that there and don't move ok. I'll be right back." Ally smiled and stood up.

"I wonder what's going on now?" Analise asks as she put her burgundy red hair up into a high ponytail.

Ally shrugged and wrinkled her upper lip. The girls made their way to the front and Ally was immediately handed the phone.

"Who is it?"

"I don't know, they insisted they talk to you ASAP."

Ally took the phone and slowly put it up to her ear. "Thank you for holding, this is Ally."

"Ally. It's Chief."

"Oh my gosh, Chief. How are you doing?" Ally smiled and leaned against the counter, twirling the phone cord around her finger.

"Well not to good. I have a question for you?" Chief's voice shook with worry.

"Ok?"

"One of my officers recently got attacked and let's just say, he belongs with you guys at E.P."

Ally raised her eyebrows and quickly grabbed a pink sticky note from the desk. "What's his name?"

"Frost."

"Last name?"

"Rosado."

"Do you need us to come get him?" Ally spoke fast.

"Yeah. We're in Saint Joseph's Hospital."

"Alright, Me and a team will be there in a few minutes."

"Thank you." Chief said and hung up the phone.

Ally slammed the phone on the receiver and took Analise by the hand, running down the hallway to the elevator.

"What's going on?" Analise questioned.

"Supernatural pickup." Ally smirked.

Analise knew what that meant. The girls rushed out of the elevator, desperately trying to find Ely and Markel. Ely had been taking care of another patient and Markel was working in his office on someone's file. Ally knocked on the office door once before storming in on her brother.

"Markel. E.P. call. Chief has one for us." Ally smiled as she stood in the doorway.

Markel looked up with his reading glasses sliding off the bridge of his nose. "Alright." Markel stood up from the leather computer chair, grabbed his badge and gun and the three went to find Ely. Ely had just finished up a patient and had been sitting at the nurses' desk, filing the report that he made on their condition.

"Ely let's go. E.P. work." Markel informed as he walked past the desk.

Ely smiled, saved his work and grabbed his E.P. bag that he kept under the desk. The four proceeded into the car garage and loaded everything into the back of an all-black Yukon Denali. The windows all around had been tinted to a grade that if anyone who tried to look in, would see nothing but black. The wheels spun out as Markel pressed the gas and rushed out of the garage. Approaching the hospital where Frost was located, they made their way through the Emergency room doors and walked up to the front desk. Leaning over the counter Markel removed his sunglasses that he put on in the car, his gaze had met the receptionists but before both of them could exchange words, she was already writing down the release paperwork to have signed over by a doctor. Grabbing the papers from the receptionist as soon as she was done Markel, Ally, Analise and Ely made their way down to the doctor that oversaw Frost.

"Can I help you Sir?" The doctor asking looking back at Markel.

"Yeah you can sign these." Markel spoke, meeting the doctor's eyes with his.

The doctor's hand began to move on its own, signing his name on the form and handed it back to Markel. Markel smiled and put his glasses on top of his head and followed the three up to Frosts room. Chief had been waiting outside of the door.

"Chief!" Ally shouted as she rushed towards him.

"Ally. How are you?" Chief asked and embraced her in a short hug.

"I'm good. So, where's the man in question?"

Chief pointed in the room. "His partner Hedix is in there as well. He's very protective, so please don't manipulate him. He's the only one that's been with him longer than I have."

Markel nodded and entered the threshold with the other three. Frost had been laying in the bed, his skin had gone pale and his breathing was becoming shallow. Frost was getting worse from what the doctor had told them previously. Hedix sat at the end of the bed with his head in his hands and his fingers in his hair.

"Excuse me sir, are you by chance Hedix?" Analise asked first.

Hedix looked up, his eyes blood shot from stress and lack of sleep. "Yeah, what is it? Who are you?"

"My name is Analise and this is Ally, Ely and Markel. We belong to a special unit called E.P Labs. We're here to take Frost under our care."

Hedix looked at her and then gazed at the rest of them standing behind her. "You guys can help him?"

All four of them nodded, all with reassurance on their faces. Hedix looked at Frost, let out a short breath and stood up.

"If you take him, you're taking me to." Hedix spoke.

"No problem." Ely smiled.

With permission from Hedix, Ely and Markel began to unhook the wires that were connected to Frost and set him up with their own medications and stabilizers. As soon as Frost was hooked up the E.P. Lab way, Markel took him into his arms and began to escort Hedix and Chief out of the building and to the parked Yukon. In the very back, a bed had been set up just like an ambulance. Markel gently placed him on the bed and closed the back doors. Hedix was ushered to sit up front while Ally, Analise and Ely sat in the very back and monitored Frost. Markel got into the driver's seat, started the engine, waved to Chief and took off down the room. Making their way into a rural part of town, the busy street soon turned into a road that was less taken. The trees had soon engulfed the sky, leaving the Yukon driving through a never-ending forest path. Hedix rolled down the passenger window and felt the air that had been flying past. The air was crisp with an earthly scent.

"Where is this place?" Hedix questioned while his eyes followed the tree line as they drove.

"E.P. Labs is in the middle of the woods, away from hateful and disapproving eyes. This place has its own protective systems, gates and guards." Markel informed as he looked at the road in front of him.

"Why?" Hedix turned to face Markel.

Markel looked at Hedix and as they exited the forest, the first thing that Hedix was aware of was two winged men standing on top of the fenced gate. Their wings had been black and faded into white. Hedix's eyes widened as different kinds of people roamed around the property. People with wings, people that were fairies and wolves, cats, angels, and demons. Every mythical creature that anyone has ever heard of had been living right here on this property.

"What exactly is E.P. labs?" Hedix questioned as the Yukon came to a stop inside of the gate.

Markel had stepped out of the car and made his way around with Hedix to assist in taking Frost out of the back.

"This is a place where the supernatural people of the community come to receive medical treatment. Since hospitals only have medicine for humans, the supernatural need to be taken care of as well. Plus, taking care of someone with magic abilities can take a long time. This place allows them to get medical treatment and have a roof over their head." Markel said and lifted Frost out of the Yukon.

Hedix looked at Frost who was getting worse by the minute. Frosts skin was claimer, his hair didn't have its' usual shine and Hedix could tell that Frost was struggling to breath. His eyes began to fill with sorrow and longing for his friend to be ok. Hedix followed Markel and the rest of the three inside of the building and immediately everyone's eyes focused on Hedix.

"Markel, who's the outsider?" an older sounding voice beckoned from the railing of the walkway on the second floor.

Hedix looked up to see a man with dull red wings that were flattened against his back. His demeanor was stiff and was totally unamused with Hedix's presence. As if he knew Hedix was human and didn't belong here.

"Don't worry about it Tanto. Aren't you supposed to be in the room receiving you daily dose of meds?" Markel said, not even bothering to look up.

"Yes, he is. Tanto get back to medicine room now. Ely will be there in a few." Analise said, glaring at him.

Tanto glared back and made his way to the medicine room as Markel and the four made their way to a room that was made specially for Frost. The room was set to a temperature where you could see your breath and the bed was placed on ice. The room was white and ice blue just like Frost eyes and hair. The one thing in the room that had Hedix a little confused, was a tank filled with liquid and had been placed in the corner with wires and tubes connected to it and coming out from the inside.

"What is that?" Hedix asked with a concerned look in his eyes.

"That's the thing we need to use to heal your friend here." Markel said and placed Frost on the bed.

"What do you mean?" Hedix questioned.

"Just stand back and watch. We saw the report the human doctor made, and we know what that stuff is in your friend's blood stream." Ally smiled and began to hook Frost up to the tubes coming out of the tank. Hedix stepped back and watched as needles were being put into Frosts extremities. After the arm and leg needles were placed, Ely sat Frost's limp body up and gently placed a needle into his spinal cord with a tube that followed up to the tank. Analise walked over to the tank and waited for the signal from Ally and Ely. After their process was finished, Ally gave Analise the thumbs up. Analise flicked the switch that was on the outer glass of the tank and the liquid began to climb up the tubs and into Frosts veins and arteries. Markel, without hesitation, grabbed Hedix by his bicep and left the room, closing the door behind them.

"What the hell?!" Hedix looked at Markel angered.

Markel didn't say a word and stood there guarding the door. Suddenly a vigorous scream flooded under the door and echoed in the halls. Frost was screaming at the top of his lungs and Hedix was trying to get through, but Markel wasn't budging. Frosts screaming continued for 10 minutes straight, you could hear his vocal cords going horse. Hedix couldn't stand it anymore but just as he was about to cover his ears and leave the building, Frost's voice had cut out and went silent. The hallways and Frosts' room were now back too normal, but everyone's ears still rang from the pitch of his scream. Markel moved out of the way and let Hedix run through the door, barreling to Frost's side. When Hedix finally looked at Frost, Frost had his normal color back and his breathing was normal. Frost showed no signs of ever being injured, or difficulty breathing.

"What did you guys do?" Hedix asked, amazed at his friends' rapid recovery.

"Holy water." Ely announced and smiled in a pleased manner.

"Holy water?" Hedix questioned Ely's sanity.

Ally smiled and walked over to Frost and started to check his vitals; checking his heart rate and breathing, then the IV they had placed into his hand. "Yeah, what was inside of him was something ancient, so who ever injured him in the first place probably has been here longer than you've been alive. So, the only way to cure that kind of thing is with a special kind of holy water that only a high priest can make."

Hedix raised is eyebrows in surprise. He was grateful to the team for saving Frost. "What would've happened if you guys didn't treat him?" Hedix asked.

"He would've died from the inside out." Markel spoke bluntly.

"What do you mean?"

Markel looked at him with stern eyes. "It means that substance inside of him, would've ate him from the inside out. It started with his blood, but we caught it in time before it could completely eat away at his muscles, tendons and bones. If we didn't catch it, then it would've gone to his brain, ate away at that and then made their way to the surface and ate away at his skin, until there was nothing left of him." The whole room was silent after Markel's blunt explanation. The sounds of the monitors beeping filled the atmosphere, along with the slow breaths Frost was taking in his slumber. The room stayed quiet for a period until Hedix came with a question.

"Markel, how do you know so much about that substance?"

Markel hesitated for a moment as him and Ally shared a quick glance. "I'm a scientist. I specialize in learning about everything that can either hurt or kill supernatural beings."

"You say that as if you're not human." Hedix said slightly looking up at Markel with an eyebrow raised.

"I'm not." Markel responded.

"Then what are you?"

Markel looked at Hedix, then looked away. "I'm heading back to my office now. Let me know if you guys need anything." He said, evading the question, and leaving the room with everyone in it.

"Are any of you human?" Hedix asked, looking around the room.

Analise and Ely raised their hands. Ally had kept hers down.

"What are you?"

Ally looked down, picking at her nails. "Alright guys let's leave Hedix alone with Frost. Hedix if he wakes up, please page us ok." Ally said, also evading Hedix's questions. Hedix nodded and watched as the three left the room. He turned his attention back to Frost who was breathing normally and look a lot better. He was relieved that they helped Frost when they did, or he would've lost two people that were closest to him. Hedix sat silently and let the day fade away and turn to night. No one told him to leave or that visiting hours had ended, so Hedix made himself comfortable on the couch that sat underneath the window that looked out over a beautiful garden and a lake. The stars had made their appearance in the sky and the moonlight had shone over the lakebed. The ripples in the lake had distorted the moons reflection as the wind blew lightly. Frost had peacefully slept through the night but Hedix was up off and on, continuously checking on Frosts condition. By the time morning had come around, Hedix had been up since the crack of dawn. With only a few hours of sleep, he managed to take a shower in the room and get a change of clothes from Chief, who had come by earlier to visit. The sun made its way through the window and brightened up the enter room. Hedix took a deep breath of the fumes of the coffee he had made about five minutes ago. Taking a sip and gently putting it down on the side table, Hedix stood up and stretched, raising his arms up over his head and interlocking his fingers, pushing his hands towards the ceiling. Once Hedix finished his well needed stretch, a knock appeared on the door.

"Good Morning It's Ally, can I come in?" she announced through the crack in the door from opening it slightly.

"Yeah, come on in." Hedix responded.

Ally appeared through the door with her short black, shoulder length hair and blue marble eyes that had shined once the sun had hit them. Her white lab coat and sea foam green scrub pants were almost touching the ground if it wasn't for her black heels.

"How are you doing this morning?" Ally asked as she rounded the corner of Frosts bed to check his vitals.

"I'm doing ok. Just wishing he would wake up?"

"Yeah. That process we did yesterday had taken a lot out of energy from him. The holy water just kills the substance that was inside of him, it doesn't repair what it had already eaten. So, when he wakes up, we can do a CAT scan to see what has been damaged and go from there." Ally smiled and completed the vitals.

"Do you know when he'll wake up?"

Ally looked down at Frost, clicking her finger against the clipboard she was holding. "Let me get Analise in here and then she can tell you ok. She kind of has a knack for telling when someone will wake up."

Hedix nodded and watched as Ally went to get Analise. Within minutes a knock at the door flooded the room. Hedix looked back to see Analise walk through the door. She was quite different from Ally. Burgundy red hair and Crystal blue eyes that could take any one's breath away. Her lab coat fit her just perfectly and her blue jeans did as well. Hedix thought she was beautiful, but he knew he didn't stand a chance. Hedix looked down at the white tile floor as Analise rounded the corner to look at Frost. Checking his vitals one more time and writing things down, she looked back at Hedix.

"He should wake up within 24 hours." Analise smiled.

"How can you tell?" Hedix asked.

"Well judging by his vitals. The color of his skin and body temperature, he seems to be doing good in those areas." Analise said.

Hedix nodded "Say Analise, I got a question."

"Shoot."

"When did this place, E.P. Labs, become a thing?"

Analise shrugged. "I honestly don't know for sure, but I know it was created by a gentleman who lived a long time ago. His name I believe was, Chaos Lain."

"Sounds cool. Why did he create it?"

Analise walked beside Hedix, tucking her hair behind her ear. "I don't know, But I know someone who would know. He's one of the oldest patients here. You want to try and talk to him?"

Hedix looked at Frost's unconscious body. "Yeah. I need to walk around a little bit." Hedix yawned and stood up, following Analise out of the room and into the hallway. The building was huge, and the hallways were wide with white walls with blue tiled floors. Every room was different and built to the patient's hospital needs and the needs of the species they were. Analise took Hedix through different parts of the Hospital, and everywhere they seemed to cross was a different experience for Hedix. He was amazed at all of the training centers and medical help they provided for different types of creatures. They soon came to a room that was blocked off by a matte silver door. Analise opened the door slowly and Hedix looked around. The walls were covered with what seemed like silver foil insulation, the temperature of the room was obvious why the walls were lined with a heat foil; Hedix was sweating already and he only just entered the room. What caught Hedix by surprise was a table in the center of the room and a man lying on the table, covered up from head to toe in a silver blanket and what looked like to be a heat lamp above him.

"Is he like a lizardman or something?" Hedix whispered as he raised an eyebrow.

"No, He's not. Tanto? Are you awake?" Analise laughed, her voice echoing through the room.

Tanto slowly opened his eyes and gazed toward Analise and Hedix. "I am now. What can I help you with?"

"Well, Hedix here wants to know a little bit more about E.P Labs. If you have time to talk?"

Tanto slowly sat up, removing the blanket from him and dropping it on the floor. Placing both feet on the ground, Tanto walked over to Hedix and looked him in the eyes. Tanto's eyes were a pale red and orange, almost like someone took a red and orange crayon and melted them together in the sun.

"You probably want to know what I do under that heat lamp." Tanto commented. Hedix nodded and looked at Tanto as he slowly made his way down and sat on the floor, inviting Hedix to join him. Hedix sat across from him and placed his hands in his lap.

"So, what do you want to know?" Tanto asked and crossed his arms over his chest.

"Why did this guy named Chaos build a place like this?" Hedix asked.

Tanto looked at him and took a deep breath in. "Chaos was a General in one of the royal family's armies that existed long ago. Back in my time there were all kinds of different creatures around, and unlike today, those royal families ruled the lands and divided territory. Chaos saw many of his people die due to a war that started ages ago, before you or the ancestors you know of were even a thought in their parent's minds. Chaos was already tired of the blood shed he was seeing every day, so this place was originally a hideout that was only the size of a small shed, with a bed and medical equipment. As you can see, this place grew well beyond its years and has expanded in a good way. Chaos had the idea to create this place when so many of his people were dying and only the humans were surviving. Like humans, we need medical treatment to, and only a handful of people knew how to treat the creatures that fought for their lives. Chaos was one of those people and he proposed the idea to the royal family he served. The king agreed because he couldn't stand to see humans having the upper hand on us creatures. So, with the funding from the king, the little shed that was used as a hideout soon became a 2-story building, in the middle of the woods, that was used for injured creatures. Chaos took pride in his building and ran it until he couldn't anymore. Chaos died while protecting this place, so countless others who were under Chaos, took the role and followed in his footsteps, expanding it and building new areas for different types of creatures. It soon became a well renowned medical facility for supernatural beings."

Hedix was in awe at Tantos story and Tanto could see his desire to know more. Tanto smiled slightly. "I was a fire demon. It was because of the previous war that I lost my will and ability to have my fire and control my body temperature. That's why I lay under a giant heat lamp. To control my body temperature and to fix, what they call, the heat gland."

"What's a heat gland?" Hedix questioned.

"It's something that controls my body temperature when I use my fire. I don't have use of this gland anymore, so, my body cools down to a point where I can't function and my ability to control my flame depletes."

Hedix looked down and ran his fingers through his dark brown hair. Hedix's brain was overloading with the information that Tanto was giving him. It was too much information to take in all at once. Taking a deep breath in and letting it out slowly, Hedix removed his hands from his hair, placed them in his lap and looked at Tanto who was smiling at him. He knew his brain hurt from everything.

"Ok, is there like a book or library with all this information?"

Tanto nodded his head. "There is, but you have to have special access and being a detective doesn't grant you that access."

"Dammit. So, what do I have to do?"

"Why do you want to know so much about this place?" Tanto questioned.

"Well, my best friend and partner is an Ice wolf; I've never heard of a place like this and this guy named Markel is getting under my skin." Hedix looked at Tanto.

Tanto's reaction to hearing Markel's name seemed to raise a bit of suspicion. "Markel tends to get under people's skin, but I wouldn't mess with him or Ally." Tanto's tone changed.

"Why?"

"Because. They're both part of a world that isn't like the rest. More powerful, smarter" Tanto paused for a moment. "Deadlier."

"Deadly?"

Tanto stayed quiet and looked around. "I will tell you this. I was a part of the people they served. Markel and Ally had an exceedingly high stance within that family, and they have powers they cannot reveal, or life-threatening consequence will take place for them, if the higher authority were to discover that what they are, was leaked." As Tanto was explaining, a presence was approaching from behind Hedix. Tanto focused his gaze behind him and immediately took to his feet. Hedix looked at Tanto with questioning eyes and realized he was looking behind him. Hedix turned his head, only to come within inches of Markel's face that was over his shoulder. Swinging his fist out of fright, Hedix went for Markel's cheek but his fist was caught only inches before he connected with Markel's face.

"Did you just try to hit me?" Markel questioned.

"Well yeah. You scared the shit out of me. How did you respond to my fist that quickly?"

Markel let go of Hedix's hand and straightened up. "As Tanto said, I'm stronger, smarter and deadlier. I can read your movements before you make them."

Hedix stood up as well and looked at Tanto, who already knew why Markel was here. Tanto made his way to the table and covered up with the blanket that was previously on him. Markel went over to a switch on the wall and powered on the heating light above Tanto's bed; for the lamp had turned itself off when Hedix entered the room. "Alright Tanto, you have three more hours of this and then you can go to your room. You have physical training tonight at about 9pm. The time right now is 1:35 pm."

Tanto nodded and placed headphones in his ears and rested on the table. Hedix looked at Markel as he walked past him to the door.

"Are you coming, or do you want to rub tanning lotion on him?" Markel asked smartly.

Hedix shot a glare and followed Markel out of the room. Markel shut the door and locked it behind him. "Oh, I should tell you, your friend woke up."

"Are you serious?!" Hedix screamed and took off to Frosts room. Dodging the nurses, doctors and patients that roamed the halls, Hedix hauled ass up to Frost's location. Rounding a corner and entering the hallway that led to the room, Hedix stopped in mid run to see Frost being helped by a nurse in red scrubs as he walked out of his door. Frost looked up and had made eye contact with Hedix.

"Hey man. Did you bring me a drink while you were out?" Frost smiled.

"Really stupid, that's what you have to say to me." Hedix smiled with relief and happiness.

"Well what else am I supposed to say?"

"Nothing man. How are you feeling?" Hedix rolled his eyes and stood next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"I feel ok. But I feel weak." Frost said and looked at the nurse who was helping.

"Frost, you're going to have to take it easy for a while. We're on our way to the CT scan now, so we can see what kind of therapy you have to do." The nurse explained as they walked slowly down the hall. Frost took each step cautiously as he relied on the nurse for support. Frosts eyes darted around the building, seeing people just like him. He was amazed that a place like this even existed. Frost, the nurse and Hedix enter the CT scan room where Ely was setting up Frosts information in the computer and getting the machine ready for him.

"Hey Frost, welcome back to the land of the living. My name is Ely and I'll be taking care of your CT scan." Ely smiled as he stood up from his seat and opened the door to the room with the all-white, claustrophobic machine in the middle.

"Do you have any metal implants or anything that might get yanked out?" Ely questioned.

"Nah man. I'm clean." Frost commented.

Ely nodded and showed Frost the way in and got him comfortable on the table. "Alright, we're doing a full body scan ok. Do you need or want ear plugs? This thing is loud." Frost shook his head. Ely nodded leaving the room and closing the door behind him. Going to the computer, he flipped some switches and started the CT scan. The machine began to make so many noises and squeaks that Frost had time to make a beat out of the rhythms and tones. Ten minutes had gone by slowly and Frost was just about to fall asleep when the machine stopped all the noises and the table had begun to slide out. Ely was there to greet Frost and help him off the table.

"Alright Frost, we should have some results for you in the next few days. You are required to stay in this hospital until we can get you cured and healthy, alright. If you have any questions about anything you can ask either me, Hedix here or a couple of the nurses you'll meet throughout your stay ok." Ely smiled.

Frost nodded and was escorted out by Hedix and the nurse who guided him in the beginning. On the way back to the room, Frost had remembered that he didn't know anything about the building that he was in.

"Dude, what is this place?" Frost questioned.

"It's called E.P Labs. Chief ended up calling these people and they showed up and took you here." Hedix responded as they entered Frosts room.

"Please let me or one of the nurses know if you need anything Mr. Frost. All you have to do is press the red button on the bed side remote." The nurse smiled and exited the room, closing the door behind her.

Frost looked around the room. The room was huge and was exactly like his room back home; cold and covered with ice, but this room came with a great view of a lake right outside his window. "That's a nice view."

Hedix looked out the window. "Yeah, it's really pretty at night."

"How long was I out?"

"About a day or two." Hedix turned around and sat on the bench beneath the window.

Without giving the boys time to settle in, the door to Frosts room suddenly bursts open and a girl wearing a blue hospital gown came flying in and stood in front of Frosts bed. Frost and Hedix stared at the girl in surprise. She had to be maybe in her teens, long light blue hair and silver eyes.

"You're an Ice Wolf?!" The girl asked excitedly.

Frost looked at Hedix, Hedix shrugged his shoulders and looked back at the girl. Frost turned his attention back to her and nodded. "Yeah, why?" He responded with caution.

"What clan are you from?" The girl asked.

"Umm, Northern Ice."

The girl's eyes lit up and tears became apparent as they rolled down her cheeks. "I can't believe I found someone from Northern Ice here. What happened to your family was tragic and I'm deeply sorry." The girl went on.

"Yeah, so hey, you know who I am but who are you?" Frost questioned.

"Oh, my name is Howler."

"Howler?" Hedix raised an eyebrow.

"I know it's weird, but my parents had given it to me because I guess when I was a baby, all I would do was howl." She smiled innocently.

"Why does that name sound familiar?" Frost rubbed his chin, trying to search for the slightest memory. Then, as a light bulb turned on in Frost's head, his eyes widened and looked at Howler in surprise. "Princess Howler, of Southern Snow?" Frost questioned.

Howler nodded, smiled and curtsied with her hospital gown. "Nice to meet you Frost, Warrior of Northern Ice."

"How long have you been here in this place?" Frost asked concerned.

"Ever since I was five years old."

"Why?" Hedix asked, raising his eyebrow.

"Well, I have come down with a condition that eventually takes away my snow, and after my snow is completely gone, I will become no more."

"What do you mean by 'no more.'" Frost questioned and sat fully up on his bed.

"I will die. A snow wolf without her snow is nothing, and a princess of a snow wolf clan cannot rule if she is no longer one with the snow."

Frost and Hedix looked at Howler with pain in their eyes. They didn't know what to tell her, but they wanted to say something to her. Before they could open their mouths, Howler spoke up.

"This place is amazing; would you like me to show you around?"

The boys looked at each other, then motioned up and walked over to Howler who was waiting patiently by the door. Howler smiled and had them follow her out and into different parts of the hospital. Frost was amazed with what he saw. Training halls that let injured demons, wolves, angels and other supernatural beings work towards getting better at fighting and transforming, each training hall was altered to the type of person training. There were halls that led to curtain types of Physical therapy for different people, and different surgery and recovery rooms that could fit multiple people or rooms specifically for one person. Frost was amazed at this place and pissed off that he hadn't heard of it until now. Nearing the end of the tour with Howler, they came across rooms that were made for the people that weren't exactly in their right mind. Rooms padded white and nothing in them except the person themselves.

"What is this place?" Hedix questioned looking into a room with a person floating upside down in midair, only to look away, trying not to be judgmental.

"This hall is for the supernatural beings that go a little crazy in the head." Howler said and continued to walk through. "This place gives me the creeps but it's the only way I know of that leads to my favorite spot."

"And what is that?" Hedix asked as Howler pushed open a giant metal door that was located at the very end of the hallway on the second floor in the eastern wing of the building. The medical rooms and training facilities were on the northern end.

"The E.P. Labs research hall." Howler smiled.

The metal door that opened, revealed a place that was out of everyone's pay grade. Everyone wearing white lab coats walking up and down 30 stories of white tile floors and white halls. Each floor was a roundabout, making the whole research sector one big cylinder. Frost looked up and was taken back at the sparkle of the white walls, halls and the stained glass on the high ceiling above.

"Wow this place is crazy." Frost exclaimed and looked around more.

"Yeah, my favorite person works in this sector. I usually sneak in and see him, but he'll get mad if he saw me." Howler smiled.

Breaking Howlers smile into a shocked look, a male voice interrupted.

"I see you."

Howler looked back and smiled innocently "Markel."

"What are you doing here. You're not supposed to be here." Markel's tone was stern.

"I wanted to show my fellow wolf and his partner around and I thought I would show them my favorite place."

"Well, you need to leave." Markel demanded rudely.

Before Howler could respond a light had flashed and an alarm sounded in the entire sector. "Code 3. Mental breach in branch 2." A voice announced along with the alarm.

"What the hell is that?" Frost questioned.

"That my friend is the reason why Howler shouldn't be here." Markel voiced.

"Why?" Hedix asked.

"Because Branch 2 holds someone that's trying to kill her." Markel ran off.

Frost looked at Hedix. "Want to go check it out?"

"Yeah why not." Hedix smiled.

The boys ran after Markel, leaving Howler in the protection of the scientists. When the boys caught up to Markel, security for the unit had already blocked off the major parts of the hallway and gotten ahold of the patient that was going haywire. Writing in blood covered the walls, making the white room, stained pink. The writing had been in a foreign language that no one understood.

"Let me go. She must die." The patient screamed as security pushed his head into the floor.

Markel kneeled and looked at the man. "Who told you this?"

The man smiled and glared at Markel. "You have the same blood he does. He's out there still, he's coming back, and we must find more bodies. He will get his revenge."

"Who told you?" Markel questioned again, but this time a little sterner.

The man suddenly freed one of his hands and grabbed a fist full of Markel's lab coat. Security went to pull his hand away, but Markel stopped them in their tracks. "Who told you?" Markel asked once more.

"Our god of time."
