Chapter 17 - Reflecting

David heaved a sigh. He lay on his bed. He was so tired and his brain and body wanted sleep. But he was still awake.

He looked at the clock; it was noon. He had gotten Luke to go back undercover and follow Sinead, while he was to be sleeping.

He had stayed awake all night, and somehow fallen asleep at an unknown hour, waking up when Sinead left the house to go run.

David had followed her, sure to put a good distance between them, especially in areas where the cover was sparse. He had bet on looking like some farmers' dog from a distance to her (if she ever turned around), out amongst the fields and crops.

David followed her to the edge of the National Parks' boundary, where he was surprised when she disappeared into the foliage. In the National park, he stayed off the trails, but worked his way along by following her scent.

In the clearing he found her and being mindful of that red fox up the tree, he stayed far enough away that neither detected his presence.

David followed her when she left the clearing as well, up to the point when she got into that silver car. He heard Sinead tell the human woman from last night, that she couldn't wait for some breakfast and that she badly needed a shower.

So, instead of following the car, he went home, with the intention of getting some sleep.

David had sent Luke to that town house in order to continue following Sinead, telling him that he needed some sleep.

But the problem was that there was a part of his brain that would not turn off so he could sleep. He sighed again. It was embarrassing; but he couldn't stop thinking about Sinead.

He thought about her boldness and self-confidence and the way she carried herself while at "The Red Goblet," it was really attractive. David thought about how she waved at those cows in the field, and later, how she interacted with that red fox.

She seemed to have a love for the fox that reminded him of how a mother would treat her child.

He was astonished at her physical stamina. Sinead had run 20km, then still having energy, hiked a trail to a clearing, and did a 45 minute workout.

To top it all off, she did that really rhythmic fighting thing where she took down those dummies. It was unbelievable. If that was her physical abilities in action, he wondered at the idea of the full extent of her magic abilities.

He tried to change the course of his thoughts. It didn't matter how much Sinead fascinated him, he had not ruled out her being a threat or extremely dangerous.

The aura of her magic was very powerful, but it did not seem to be negative. In all honesty, the only thing that he saw to make him worry was that she appeared to keep a pocketknife in her sports bra.

"What normal girl would keep a pocketknife in her sports bra?" David thought.

He sighed again and shook his head. Journeying from his bed, he collected headphones and his cell phone. He put on some music he found relaxing, and lying back down on the bed, soon fell asleep.
