Chapter 1 - Just An Allergic Reaction

The ward that was filled with the smell of disinfectant had walls that were in a deathly white color. There was no movement from the little body that was protruding from the bed.

There was a little boy on the bed. His face had completely turned purplish. He felt as if all the blood in his body had rushed to his face. His body was so pale that it had turned bluish. His lips were also swollen.

He looked quite scary.

Muffled voices and footsteps could be heard in this small space from time to time.

A middle-aged man in a traditional Chinese outfit was pacing around the ward. The man's face was pale, and his eyes were red. He looked exhausted.

"Is there really no way to treat him?" The man asked.

The doctor sighed and explained, "Your child's symptoms are strange. We can't find the cause of his illness. We can't save him."

"My son!" exclaimed a beautifully dressed woman with curly hair. She was kneeling on the floor in front of the hospital bed, crying out her child's name sobbingly.

The man was getting a headache from the noise. He hollered impatiently, "Get up! Look at what you've become!"

Zhou Li cried until her makeup was messed up. She cried, "My son is about to die. How can I care about your stupid rules? ! Wang Sheng, you're a reputable businessman. You Can't even protect your son! What kind of man are you? !"

As if someone had hit his Achilles heel, Wang Sheng looked at his son sorrowfully. His eyes were filled with heartache. He did not stop his wife. "The police will investigate. You have to trust the police."His tone was tired.

"Trust my ass!" Zhou Li had lost control of her emotions.

Wang Sheng glared at Zhou Li and said in a serious tone, "Don't spout nonsense!"

At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Wang Sheng was interrupted and could only open the door.

A young policeman stood behind the door, and behind him was a thin and beautiful girl.

The girl was quite pretty. Her peach-shaped eyes were slightly upturned, dark, and glistening. Her skin was fair and smooth.

If she dolled herself up properly, she would definitely be comparable to a lady from a wealthy family.

Wang Sheng did not have the time to look at Yun Jin, so he immediately welcomed the policeman in. "Sir, have you caught the person who harmed my son?"

The police officer turned his body and instructed the girl behind him to stand to the side. He said, "I specifically brought her here to apologize. This morning, this girl stood at the police station's entrance and surrendered herself."

Yun Jin did not hesitate. She stood out and apologized softly, "I'm sorry."

The air instantly became strangely quiet. It was so quiet that one could even hear a pin drop on the ground.

Yun Jin nervously touched the jade pendant in her palm. The delicate jade pendant had strange patterns carved on its surface and it warmed up upon touch.

Ten days ago, Yun Jin's grandfather had handed the jade pendant and the plate to her with a smile. He had repeatedly instructed her to look for the Zheng family in the capital and return the jade pendant to its owner.

Her grandfather probably did not expect Yun Jin to end up becoming a suspect of murder.

Yesterday, Yun Jin stopped in town and bought a scallion pancake. When she met a peckish little boy, she gave him half of the pancake.

She did not expect an accident to arise from that. After eating the pancake, the little boy's face suddenly turned red and he started foaming at the mouth. In just ten seconds or so, he fainted.

Yun Jin knew that he had developed an allergic reaction but before she could treat the little boy, the people around them took the boy away and sent him to the hospital. It was chaotic everywhere, and no one paid any attention to Yun Jin.

Yun Jin had no choice but to sit in front of the police station for the whole night. Early in the morning, she was brought to have her statements taken for evidence.

Zhou Li's crying stopped for half a second, and then she pounced on Yun Jin. "Pay for the life of my son with yours! You caused him to be in this state!"

Yun Jin was stunned. She thought, 'Can't a simple allergy be cured by a major hospital in the city?'

"Isn't it just an allergic reaction?" Yun Jin subconsciously said in surprise.

Before Zhou Li could say anything, the doctor beside her felt as if he had been insulted. He said sternly, "You don't know anything about medicine! What nonsense are you spouting, kid?"

After the doctor berated Yun Jin, he said to the police officer, "Sir, this little boy's condition isn't looking good. His life may be in danger at any moment. However, it shouldn't have anything to do with the scallion pancake that he ate. The lab results from the clinical laboratory showed that the pancake wasn't poisonous. It can be considered an acute strange illness. The hospital staff is... also helpless."

Zhou Li was immediately unhappy. She placed her hands on her hips and scolded, "How is it not related to the pancake? It's because she gave this pancake to my son! You must arrest her and shoot her dead!"

Yun Jin sighed. She felt that her head was aching from all the noise. She rubbed her head and said, "Let me try. I'm a medical student. I can save him."

Disbelief was written on everyone's faces. Yun Jin did not look like a medical student no matter how they looked at her.

Yun Jin was dressed in the simplest and shabbiest clothes. Although she was pretty, she was dressed tackily. One look and one could tell that she came from a village.

"Young lady, don't joke around. The doctors of the hospital said that they can't treat her. The situation is very serious now. I have to detain you," the police officer said to Yun Jin with a serious expression.

Yun Jin was a little anxious. "We have to save him first. If we wait too long, the blood will clog up his blood vessels. If he suffers from brain hemorrhage for too long, he'll become mentally retarded even if we eventually manage to save him."

Wang Sheng looked at his son who was on the hospital bed and finally made a decision. He said, "I'll let you try. If you can cure my son, I'll let bygones be bygones. I'll give you as much money as you want!"

Since the child's father had spoken, the police and the doctor couldn't say anything. Zhou Li also wanted to try her luck, so she didn't say anything.

Yun Jin walked quickly to the little boy's bed and said, "I don't want any money."

She took out a silver needle and directly pierced it into the little boy's neck. Yun Jin said to the police officer, "Sir, can you find me a basin?"

The policeman was shocked by Yun Jin's operation and nodded subconsciously. He rushed to the toilet and took out a washbasin. "Is this okay?"

Yun Jin glanced at it and nodded. "Just place it by the bed."

The policeman abidingly put the basin away.

Yun Jin's expression was calm. She took out a small knife from her bag and under the horrified gaze of the policeman, she directly made a cut on the little boy's jaw.

Thick blood that was dark red in color began to flow freely, and at the same time, the little boy's expression gradually returned to normal.

Zhou Li closed her eyes in fear, not daring to look.

Yun Jin seemed to be used to this and was very calm.

The doctor was very disdainful. Looking at Yun Jin, he felt that this little girl was just messing around.

The police stuttered for a long time before saying, "Little girl, you really have guts..."

Yun Jin smiled at the policeman while still moving her hands non-stop. Seeing that the little boy's blood had gradually turned into a normal shade of red, Yun Jin immediately sprinkled the medicine powder on his wound.

Then, she carefully wrapped it with gauze.

The policeman widened his eyes and watched the rise and fall of the little boy's chest gradually becoming clearer.

His flushed face also returned to normal.

"This, this, this..." He was so surprised that he was at a loss for words.

Wang Sheng's breathing was rapid, and an ecstatic expression graced his face.
