Chapter 6 - 006

It seemed like a dream to Karla, everything seemed so surreal, for her to ever think that one day, she would be fortunate enough to find the man that had haunted her for ten years of her life.

{After he saved me, a week after I lost everything, my mother drank some infected water and became blind. Father three years later was killed by a wealthy man for not paying back his loan. Just because we were poor, we couldn't retaliate.} Karla reminisced at the worst possible time.

Her deep rooted thoughts prevented her from realising how quickly she had been surrounded by a swarm of infected people.

Her body tensed up, her chest pounding so hard that it matched her rushed breaths, her eyes scanned her surrounding in panic. She took a step back, but was met by more behind her.

"Help!." She screamed loud enough, her voice shook the club, her three saviours all turned their heads in her direction at the same time.

With the speed of lighting, the red eyed man was in front of her, hugging her tightly, infected humans clawed at him, scratching him, causing his blood to ooze out and trickle.

{His blood is red, he's human.} Karla thought to herself, her eyes fixated on the crimson red blood. But the next sight shook her to her bones. Karla thought she had seen everything out of nature some moments ago, but none of those prepped her for the inhuman act.

Once the man was scratched by the skin piercing nails of the infected, his skin miraculously reverted back to it's original form, as if nothing had gone wrong.

"Brace yourself." The man whispered into her ear, causing a shiver to run down her spine. Her mind shut down at the genuinity and purity of his deep voice.

He took Karla in his arms bridal style, making a huge jump, Karla tugged on tighter, on realising her feet her left the ground. She psyched herself not to let out a scream, as it would mean her courting death.

"You can open your eyes now." He tenderly spoke, causing Karla to swiftly open her eyes and cast her vision on the man who had just saved her life twice in one night.

Different flashes of light from different angles in the club caught her immediate attention. The infected people all fell on their knees, their soul piercing screams echoed around the club.

"What is happening?." Karla fearfully asked, trying not to expose her fear, but it was impossible, she was petrified, the sight beneath her was not pretty.

The man who stood beside her, folded up his sleeves, revealing more of his muscles.

{No scratches} Karla observed, his upper back was exposed, the possessed people didn't spare his shirt in the slightest.

"They are reverting back to their original form, their human form." Karla looked to the side, the man had answered her question with an answer she did not expect.

"What were they? Just now?." She found herself asking, the storm had calmed down a bit and the repugnant smell of the possessed people had drastically reduced.

"Half demons." The man firmly said, saying it as if it was something so casual and of the ordinary. His lights words crashed Karla's world down, breaking her resolve into tiny pieces.

The flashes of light ceased all at once, and in place of terrifying humans with a bad odour, Karla's eyes met humans, laying unconscious on the floor.

Those were her co-workers, those terrifying monsters who had tried to drink her blood were the people who she shared laughs with.

She gasped and covered her mouth, her stomach disgusted at the very least. Her feet unconsciously ran towards the now converted people, her mind totally against it.

Her speed caught the red eyed man off guard, he caught up to her, standing in front of her, preventing her from moving any further.

"It's dangerous to come in contact, stay put and watch what's going on." The man cautioned, with an aura of control in his voice.

"Where is the bastard? That client that did this to them? Where the hell is he?." Karla asked, tossing questions around expecting answers.

"If you mean the host, then he's the last to convert and his requires caution, so it's best you hang on to me for your own safety." The man asserted.

Karla stared into his eyes, they were red, but immediately changed into the colour blue, reminding her that he too wasn't human.

The man who had saved her earlier was in front of the client, whose chest was ripped open. He pulled a book which was tucked away safely in his jacket. Karla couldn't see it clearly or what was even written on it.

The black woman stood opposite  him, nodding at him. He open the book with blank pages, he placed his hands on the pages, and held the book firmly at both sides.

On cue and impulse, a huge gush of wind almost sent Karla to her knees, but she placed her hand on the wall breaking her fall. Trying to see through the strands of hair that crowded her vision of the "ritual" happening.

A black mystifying cloud, with human bodily features emerged out of the body of the lifeless client. The book in the man's hands acted like some sort of force pulling the raw demon into it. Like a vacuum trying to suck dirt from the floor.

The demon wasn't letting go, it put up a strong fight, refusing to accept defeat, it's screech caused everyone in the force field to cover their ears.

"Now!." The red eyed man from the vantage position yelled, the black woman nodded, she firmly placed her feet apart from each other, and took a deep breath.

The woman let out a deafening scream, causing the place to tremble, pieces from the ceiling started to crack and collapse. A huge piece about to break away and fall directly on Karla's head, but her companion was quick to observe it.

In a swift movement, in an instant, the moment from which Karla looked above and the piece falling down, the red eyed man was able to use his fist to shatter the large piece into different fragments that couldn't cause any harm.

Karla looked into his eyes, they quickly flashed red, then returned back to their sky blue colour.

He held her firmly by the sides closer to him while his cohorts settled the cause for concern beneath them, which had caused the ground to shake.

The force from the woman's screams pushed the demon towards the glowing book, the woman's face seemed fiercer as she intensified the volume of her scream. Causing the demon to stumble and thus, allowing the book to fully absorb the demon, converting it into a mere drawing on the blank pages.

The man holding the book closed it with force and might, a look of relief and satisfaction on his face. The red eyed man let go of Karla, staring at her face, drinking in her features.

{She isn't terrified by my appearance or my abilities whatsoever.} The red eyed man thought, still trying to understand her.

Karla freed herself from his grip, she had lost her shoes somewhere in-between the running and the high jumps.

"Don't run, there's broken glass around!." The man yelled after her, running at her pace.

Karla ignored him, she just had to see it for herself, the client that had caused these people to come out of hiding, especially her red eyed devil after so many years.

{I saw his heart got ripped out, so he must be dead.} Karla reasoned as her feet ran through glass and steel, her blood trickling from the sole of her feet all over the floor.

The force field protecting the uninfected broke apart, granting the others access to get familiar with their surroundings.

"They look too afraid to even take a step out of that bubble of yours." The black woman stated strutting towards the man who had the book in his hand. Her fingers gently massaging her neck while she spoke.

"That's good, we need everyone present to stay put anyways." The man said with a weary look on his face, "this is going to be hard to replace." The man added, looking worrisome.

"Not too hard, after all you're the best in the city with an eye for these kinds of things." The woman replied, her eyes searching around for her sword.

Karla ran up to the man to take a good hard look at him, fully certain that he was long dead. As expected, there was a see through hole in his chest, hinting that he was of certain dead.

"It isn't the eighteenth century Cora, there are guns." The man said, strutting over to Karla, who was still examining the dead client, whom she recently just sat on his laps.

The man briefly shot a stare at Karla, and placed his hands on the empty hole, the black woman with the heart in her hand, placed it the man's palm. The heart sunk through the palm into the man's chest, causing the client to immediately cough.

{How the fuck is he alive?.}

Were Karla's thoughts exactly, his chest was closing back up again, at top speed.

Karla took steady steps back, if she wasn't about to shit her pants before, then she was definitely on the verge of doing it now. She kept on retreating, till she found herself backed up against a wall. Not just any wall, a human wall, she looked over her shoulder to see him, staring down at her directly, causing shivers to run down her spine.

Now that the first danger had been cleared, Karla couldn't help but wonder what other danger awaited her next.
